SteddyGolf
We have all probably received far more advice than we will ever need or want. Still there are those hidden gems that can be transformative. Recently I received one of those. It has to do with flattening your left wrist (for a righty) on the back swing. This is something I’ve always struggled with and has led to me coming over the top more than I care to mention. The advice was to imagine you are ringing out a towel with you right hand turning it clock wise as you get to the 9 or 10 o’clock position. This has really helped me to strike the ball better. What gem have you received that left a little twinkle in your eye? dlow206
Best thing I learned recently is how there needs to be some left forearm rotation in the backswing. I was doing the opposite, but still achieved the right "look" at the top through wrist manipulation. But then I would come down from there super steep. aerospace_ray
Best tip I think I ever received was one when I was learning to play out of sand trap when I was 13 yrs old (many many moons ago). I went for a green and obviously came up short in the trap. The ball was sitting fine, but there was a medium high slope part to carry. Evidently I was taking a little too much time since I was nervous and did not know if I could execute the shot. The gentleman came down in the bunker and told me to watch him. He did the dollar bill trick where he buries part of the dollar, then places a ball on top and next he says watch , I will hit before the dollar bill and make sure I swing through and finish with high hands. It worked. I got it the first time and the ball actually checked. After that I was not near as afraid when I got into the sand traps. Although it seems I still get mad when I do..... Nunfa0
This is a hard one, I have played for 38 years or so and I have heard a lot of advice over that time. Most of it I have smiled, nodded and then promptly forgot. The best thing I was told and it still rings true is if you get in deep trouble, chip out and minimise the damage. The only other thing is don't take it too seriously, we need to laugh at ourselves or it will beat you up inside and destroy your game SteddyGolf, GolfSpy_SHARK, David Leighton Reid and 3 others 6 Quote In my cart Bag: Driver: King F9 9° - LH - Atmos Blue TS 6 Stiff Woods: King F9 - LH - 3/4 Wood - Atmos Blue 7 Reg Z U85 2 Iron Irons: T200 4 Iron AMT White S300 T100S - LH - 3-48* - AMT White S300 Wedges: Indi FLX- LH - 52° 56° 60° - True Temper Spinner Wedge shafts Putter: 2 Bar Hybrid Ball: Pro V1x Testing: Haywood CB/MB Combo Iron Set, 4-7 Cavity backs, 8-PW Muscle Backs, True Temper Dynamic Gold 105 Stiff, 2 Degrees stronger lofts. Guests Guest Delete Posted May 23, 2020 Guests Share Posted May 23, 2020 Best golf tip: the book and video "Golf My Way" by Jack Nicklaus Worst golf tip: everything out of the mouth of Martin Hall on the golf channel The best tip I can give anyone is to stick to one method, learn the why, and ignore everyone else. I found that many golf instructors on YouTube and at the courses give poor instruction because they don't help the student understand the why. Knowing why helps you get yourself out of a rut on the back 9. Sticking to one complete instruction manual for golf allows you to filter everything anyone says through that manual. If it doesn't line up then toss it. If it lines up then they are saying the same thing another way. I use this as the framework: Quote Link to comment

Middler
Don’t try to kill the ball. Just relax and make a nice full swing. Your line and dispersion will be tighter and your length will probably be longer on average. Play one shot at a time, every shot is an opportunity for a great one. A bad shot shouldn’t influence the next. The 19th Hole
I have two that I really remember well. The first my father beat into me when I first started playing, but I didn’t listen for another 10+ years: minimize the damage. The 2nd one I’m not sure where I heard, but I have since passed it along to those that ask for advise about chipping. One of the worst things you can do is slow down on any shot, but I find even more so on a chip. To solve this I have a swing thought of : strike the match. You would never slow down with a match, why do it with your club? With this it really makes you commit to your shot and has made me a much more consistent short game player. I think I've reduced the times I get mad by about 70% I can play like s*** now and I'll just laugh it off, enjoy the fresh air, have a cigar... Also, avoiding heroic shots is one thing I've started applying this season. From a disastrous quadruple to just a bogey. 1 out of 10 I'll still be tempted to carry water from 220, but the other 9 safe approaches have helped my score tremendously. artful_golfer, MattF, russtopherb and 1 other 4 Quote SpeedZone 9* w/ Aldila Rogue Silver 60 S X2 Hot 3 Deep 14.5* w/ Aldila Tour Green 75 S JetSpeed 5W 19* w/ Matrix Velox T 69 S OR Super LS 3H 19* w/ Kuro Kage Black 80 S JPX919 Forged 4-PW w/ Modus3 105 S Vokey SM7 50/08F, 54/14F & 58/08M w/ Modus3 115 Wedge ER1 34" w/ SuperStroke Fatso 2.0 Pro / H2NO Lite Cart Bag / 3.0 / NX7 Pro LRF My reviews: MLA Putter // Titleist SM7 // PING i500 // PuttOUT Link to comment

Josh Ross
Best tip I ever got was from Charles Howell III when I was his standard bearer. When I asked him his best advice when your stock shot isn't working right before a tournament, he said you play the shot you have. So if you normally play a push draw but while warming up on the range it's a baby fade, don't fight it. You don't have time to start trying to figure out what's wrong and you'll end up playing worse in the tournament. So, you just play the shot you have for the day and work it out later. He also told me to always play to a number and that helped me out a ton. artful_golfer, gman8966, David Leighton Reid and 1 other 4 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: L.A.B.
