adamflowers
Over the past three months, I've had two identical driver shafts snap at the hosel. Barring manufacturer defects or poor treatment, have you heard of the following scenario contributing to this kind of shaft break: I have recently learned, through a lesson, that I am an extremely consistent ball striker, but I consistently hit the ball on the heel of the club. Could consistent heel contact over the course of some months (driving range sessions and on-course play) contribute to a shaft break at the hosel? Or do you think they were just freak accidents? Yes, but I was wondering if this is a general phenomenon, too. Pkkenny88
My newly purchased Project X Evenflow T1100 shaft has the same splits!! Actually it has two of them!! My stock shaft with my Ping G400 has been used more and now sign of splitting. I too am curious about this phenomenon and wonder if it is contributed to inconsistent ball striking. RI_Redneck
Yes, that contact point will cause shaft failure if it is consistent. Especially with lighter weight shafts that have thinner walls. You need to change your focus so you hit more toward the center. Many think it's as simple as moving away from the ball, but that doesn't always do it. The human brain is making thousands of involuntary calculations when you swing a club. It has to be trained to SEE the intended point of contact further out. I was a habitual toe striker and I had to literally focus on trying to hit the ball on the heel to train myself. It takes time and repetition.
