newballcoach Posted June 11, 2020 Share Posted June 11, 2020 I am so fired up for golf to be back! I can't wait to watch live sports again, those exhibition matches are just a tease. Speith getting back into form would be great. I like him a lot and seeing him struggle is unfortunate. If there's anybody who's going to benefit from the time off, with no pressure to just work on his game, it's him. A top-10 would be wonders for him and his confidence.It's a course he knows well too. Justin Rose I think will be in contention this week as well. He's won Colonial before and just ditched his Honma clubs, so he should be back at the top of his game. Colin Morikowa is also getting a lot of love this week as well. It's a great field and should be fun to watch. I agree I'm shocked there's not more coverage. It'll be crazy to watch with no grandstands or spectators. Golf balls will be bouncing and flying everywhere. It's only one shot, but I'm curious to see if all of his #gainz actually do anything for his GAME. I'll admit though, it was fascinating to see him hit that shot followed just a little later by DJ with 177 MPH ball speed. I know DJ usually leaves a lot in the tank, but that was nonetheless shocking to see flash on the screen. You have to worry about tendon strength, elasticity, etc. when dealing with rapid weight and muscle gain, as well as stress on joints and bones, but he seems to be handling it well. He's driving it an average of 321 yards off of the tee. If he keeps hitting it that far, it will help him win. That's what it's about. Perhaps long-term he is creating more potential for injury and damage, but if he makes 100 million from golf in the next 2 decades I think that's a trade-off he is looking to make. Looking at pictures of Bryson before all the weight again, it seems as though he has a decent frame to support the increased mass, but only time will tell. As long as it's muscle mass, and distributed well, it will help him. It seems like a lot of his gains are legs and torso, which will help with force generation in a rotational sport like golf. He's an interesting case study to see if it is a path more should take. For every success story of chasing distance there are lots of players who ended up hurt or ineffective because of added bulk. Perhaps he's providing a blueprint to do it better. Greg Roskopf is his trainer and, well, he seems like a guy who would get along with Tom Brady. But you can't argue with results. Some folks set up grandstands in their backyards along the course to watch which is where all of the crowd noise I heard came from. I despise people yelling stupid stuff and I do miss the cheers. The noise didn't really fit the situation either. Rahm hit one way over the green and there was cheering followed by Rory chants.
