StrawberryShortCake
I started playing when I was 12, my dad took me out with his friends. I had quite a large property and would play from tree to tree like they were holes around the property. I took a long time off from 16 till I was in my early 30s. A couple years back my physio said I could play golf as rehab. I couldn't play other sports and fell love with golf. I've had the bug for a couple year now and can't stop thinking about it. Thanks To my dad and my grandma for the early lessons and getting me started in the wonderful world of golf xOldBenKenobiX 1 Quote Driver: Rogue Sub Zero 9* stiff Wood: Tight Lies TI 3 wood stiff Hybrid: XR 3 19 deg stiff Irons: JPX 900 Tour std loft/lie Wedges: 52,56,60 Putter: #7 Red Ball: Q-Star 12.9 Handicap Comox Valley, B.C. Miketheripper
Playing video golf games and watching Tiger on TV got me interested in golf. My brother and I picked up a couple cheap golf clubs and started hitting balls at the range, and then eventually picked up some yard sale clubs and started playing the game on our own. jddaigneault
This topic brings a lot of gratitude for a wonderful lady, my Aunt Kate! She’s the best, introducing me to golf and world travel. She’s a total whacko, and it’s absolutely glorious. Kate has this way of taking over a room and making everyone feel wonderful, so you can imagine how much fun it is to play golf with her. She has this laugh that you can probably hear four holes over, says “ah shoot” loudly when she messes up, and raves about her good holes for the entire meal afterwards. She’s just pure joy, and every time I play a round I think about her and how much fun she’d be having. Since I moved to SoCal, I haven’t played a round with her in awhile. I look forward to the next round, and the pizza we share afterwards! yungkory
My step father when I was about 4 or 5. He was big into golf, and from what I remember, pretty good at it as well. He would take me to the range with him and I always remember trying to get the ball beyond the "flat" part of the range and down the hill. He got all of my immediate family into golf: my grandfather, my uncles, and my mom. I remember him watching golf on TV, while it was laundry day, and there would be piles of laundry separated by wash load on the floor. He would set them up like mini golf obstacles for me to putt around the living room in our apartment. Unfortunately, lung cancer would claim his life when I was about 7 and he was about my current age (34). Forever grateful for that man, RIP. However, with the bad comes the good. As I mentioned he turned my grandfather and uncles onto golf and they would pretty much be my father figures for me growing up. Long story short, I grew up in/with the game of golf. I wish I hadn't stopped playing from '06-'16 but life had other crap for me to do. fixyurdivot
My Dad. He loved the game and was probably a 15 handicap at his best. He had back surgery (in the late 1940's) and that limited his swing a bit...but man could he putt. I was around 6 years old when he took me out to the range and subsequently signed me up for a golf summer camp in Ft. Lauderdale. I've been playing the game ever since and my memories playing with him are among my most treasured. Nunfa0
My dad, after my hip broke down when I was 9 (yes the one I just had replaced) I couldn't play Rugby League anymore so he started taking me with him to golf. One day he bought home an old hickory iron for me to learn with (yes I still have it) and I have been hooked ever since. I had so many wonderful times with dad at golf and then my older brother joined us. Dad left us back in 1996 and the day he died my brother and I went and played golf to remember him. He was a bit too churchy for me and I didnt love having to listen to Christian rock on the way to the course and back but he's a good man. He had a plumbing businesss in Chicago and his family was loaded, so they always had watercraft, boats and snowmobiles at their vacation house in Wisconsin where I lived that I could use anytime that I wanted and was one of those people who was well-off (not rich but not far from it) but never acted like it. If we're going to talk about neibors and golf, I should also talk about the old guy across the street who had an old set of Hogans that he let me use when I was starting out. That set would probably be worth some money today: he had a full set of Hogans from the '70s: matching persimmon woods and irons and the leather bag to do with it. I dont exactly recommend starting out with persimmon woods and blade irons but it certainly makes for a great story.
