I've played quite a bit this year and my grips aren't what they used to be.I clean my grips every five or six rounds with Dawn dish soap to get the dirt in hand grime off of them. I have new grips but I don't want to put them on until I'm at least halfway through this season. Have any of you guys ever used fine grit sandpaper on your grips to get a little more grip on them? I know it sounds like I'm being cheap but with everything going on this year I have to nickel-and-dime a little bit.

If you are watching your money, save the $12 and continue to use soap and water. Maybe wipe them during your round with a clean damp cloth.

Playing mid day yesterday I noticed my grip was slipping. I usually play eveings/twlight, could quite possibly be that my hands were sweating more than usual as well.

I have two towels available this time of year. One damp for cleaning clubs and grips, the other one just dry for wiping off hands and face from sweat.

That might actually work. I play the GP microsuede grips and LOVE them? I also live here in AZ where sweat can wreak havock on both grips and keeping the club in your hands.

The mocrosuedes are just the tour wraps buffed down with a light grit sanding belt. They're pretty inexpensive at $5 ea. So far after 3 mo, there's no noticeable wear. I play at least 2 times/week so they're getting used plenty.

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

Man,

I love Arizona, especially up around Sedona. Came out the last two years in September and October.

I've been to Yuma twice, golf courses looked amazing there but I was working 12 hours shifts and couldn't get away to play. Lots of Canadians snow bird down there, I couldn't beleive how many canadians I met in 4 weeks there.

I hit some of my buddy's clubs sometimes. They usually have older grips that are so slippery to me. I take my wire brush that I have hanging in my bag for cleaning the face, and I scrape the grip on their club. Seems to work pretty well, and they thank my for improving their club.

My coach, former PGA player, never changes his grips and only uses sandpaper on them. His grips seem a lot smaller than they used to be. I have trouble hitting his clubs because of it.

All that to say, it is a temporary fix in a pinch. New grips feel great - get them as soon as you can. Save some money and put them on yourself. (Golfworks.com)

I have used sandpaper to rough up the grips a little; It works. You aren’t scrubbing them hard with the sandpaper; just roughing up the surface.

I've always used soap and warm water with a stiff bristle brush and it works perfectly fine.

Soap, water and a rough towel are all you need to clean your grips.

I love the GP Microsuede grips too! They can be slicker than the MCCs out here in the Mojave desert. But I agree that soap and water does the trick, and a wet towel is a requirement on hot days.

I've used it to "break in" Super Stroke putter grips. Even the new Traxion grips have a bit of slickness to them so a few rubs with some medium sandpaper gets rid of it

I have really only heard about it and used it on corded grips.  The purpose was to rough up the surface and expose more of the cords.

I've used sandpaper before on clubs that haven't been used in a while. I take a really light grit sand paper and essentially wet sand them. It can bring Tour Velvet style grips back to life. I decided to use it because dish soap wasn't cutting through the slick old grip. I think it turns out pretty well. My brother is still playing with the last one I did on an old R7 3 wood he decided to bring out of retirement a year ago.
