Is it better to have a higher launch or Higher spin.?

Recommended Posts

Most of the ball tests cover this stuff but I'm just curious on how our spies think about it.

I'd rather have a lower launch higher spin ball...I play lots of "burning wedges" into the greens from 120 and in.

Depends on what you are trying to do with different shots. It’s whatever works best from tee to green.

technique with short game and swing will have as much effect as the type of shot

Is there really a time where anyone with any expertise is trying high hit a really high ball into greens? Or is there more to the decision making like short game pitches?

I think in the short game the differences are minimal. Very interesting.

Depends on where the flag is, what the green conditions are, where they are coming from, any type of trouble to worry about. Watch the pros and you will see they control the ball flight based on their goal. Most pros rarely full swing their wedges and short irons to control spin Also really high is relative.

It's all wind depending for me. If it's wind in my face I try to tee low and rip it low. Wind with me I try to launch high and carry with the wind. No winds I try to launch driver high and let it fly. With wedges I try to play the flag and green slope. Depending on where the pin location is I'll either bump and run low or flop it high and hope she sticks.
