Has anyone tried a shot they normally wouldn't because the Cobra's inspired that much confidence?

I just re-read what I wrote and it sounded a bit harsh. No hard feelings towards you personally, just CCC banter. I meant what I said about Boston sports and that ball though.

I wanted to follow up on my round yesterday. Had a 8:40 tee time at Timber Creek Golf Club. Upon arrival I could see the place was packed! They were having a tournament that  was to kick off at 8:30 and would occupy two the three nine hole courses. So they intended the non-tournament groups to play the Timber Trail 9 holes twice for a 18 hole round. Well that was okay but would not be my ideal choice for this weeks competition. Without giving too much away it was a day of two types of shots, spectacular or embarrassing, but I managed the round well and putted great which can make for many sins.

image.png.e711730244a3027e48741eeee7dde62a.png

As an example of the day...hole #1 first time:

Hole #1 second time through:

First nine:

image.png.b725c6b88f54f1dc4f2ad9dc48c0297a.png

One birdie, four pars, three bogies, one double and two penalties.

Second nine:

image.png.37db754ef405de913c3df27ac561b42a.png

One birdie, three pars, four bogies, one double and no penalties.

I managed the round well and never got too frustrated with numerous poor shots in the wet condition and responded with many outstanding shots that left me feeling very good about the round and the state of my game. Loving the ONE length hybrid and and irons!!!!!!!!!

Ended the day with a highlight 60* flop shot over a bunker to 4 feet and I made the little downhill put!!!   This hole was playing down wind 12 mph.

No personal bests here but a good day. And below is my current trends.

image.png.ff58881fa8d98ec1173723cb2cd09e3b.png

The driving trend has me concerned but approach numbers are gonna more than make up for that and my overall is trending the right direction.

The heavy rains we have been dealing with for the last three weeks look to be gone for this weekend and next week so I'm looking forward to getting back out on course this weekend.

That 3W looked to be working for you though on two of those shots! 🙌🏼

From what @Wedgie said in a wayyy earlier post on this thread ... an advantage of the OL irons with the 9i on down to the GW is that the ball flies super high and lands straight down.

Is that true for you as well? Can you aim for the pin tucked just behind a bunker?

Great round and it looks like you're heading in the direction! I can relate to how you play driver/3W. I can hit a lousy drive and the fairway can be a beast off the deck. I'm impressed how quick you've adjusted to the one length irons. Keep it up!

Yes, if you can figure out and dial in your yardages these SZONE irons are very high launching and will stop dead in their tracks.

MDGolfHacker

I've been playing with 36" shafts in my wedges for several years, these are only 1.5" longer. Been no problem at alI.

I think my attitude toward trying the one length also has helped me because it just makes sense to me to simplify the game as much as possible.

I need simplification to improve and be more consistent and the irons are helping with that.

Been stationary dumping heavy rain with lightning since 5am this morning and doesn't look like it will move out till this evening. Maybe I can play another round tomorrow?

There was no rain predicted for the next week according to the weatherman yesterday!

Hopefully the nasty stuff will clear out after this evening and you can get another round in tomorrow.

Well, I definitely set a mark this morning that probably won't be equalled or bested in this challenge, unfortunately it had nothing to do with the weekly FIR/GIR Burger competition...

Screenshot_20200801-101906.jpg.6094a181938bf00615770ab3124c88c3.jpg

I didn't know there was an outing scheduled for this morning until I got to the course, so I had to bust it to get all 18 holes in ahead of them. Very interesting results! I scored OK, and putted pretty well for me. Running between shots, no practice swings, no marking or lining up putts, left my glove on for every shot including putting. Might have to start carrying over some of the putting thoughts - pick a line, pick a speed and go - to a normal-paced round.

As far as the FIR/GIR competition goes, I won't be submitting this round. I changed my strategy off of the tee and hit a lot of irons trying to hit more fairways and that failed miserably (and I'll expound on that in more detail in my iron review). Still, remove a ball I hooked out of bounds on No. 3 and I put together a pretty decent scoring round for me.

20200801.thumb.gif.7faef3c72be8e496b2eb7f54ae740bee.gif

Best shot of the day came on No. 17, and the SpeedZone Xtreme really continues to impress me. Had to punch a 7 iron under a branch to get to the green and did so successfully for an easy two-putt par.

Lots of driving today but I have a tee time tomorrow morning up near camp. One last chance to post a good score and grill up some FIR/GIR burgers! (Bad dad joke intended).

I don't publicize this, but I invite you to look at pictures from the Epic Flash intro last year.

Let's just say, the irons have, uh, protection. As sacrilegious as it is.

Has anyone tried a shot they normally wouldn't because the Cobra's inspired that much confidence?

MDGolfHacker

Lots of confidence with the SpeedZone Xtreme. During my round Tuesday afternoon I setup my aim point such that I needed to carry the bunker on the right, which isn't always a guarantee with my driver swing. Cleared them easily and rolled a little. Maybe not a crazy difficult or not normal shot, but while I still hit bad drives, I have a lot of love for the Xtreme at the moment.

meadows.png.75eddebbcd2f738e8235df9c26be9543.png

If I hit a good drive on No. 3 at my home course, I really think I can get to the green in two. Some of the danger has been removed from the hole because we've been so dry that the drainage area in front of the green is basically normal grass right now, but it's a possibility with how I've been driving the ball as of late. (Pictured for example.)

Is there much of a difference in the size/placement of the rails between SZ and F8---or the general size/shape of the clubs?

Haven't forgotten about this - just wanted to get a comparison picture for you. There is not a big difference in general size/shape. The SpeedZone 2 hybrid has a slightly larger footprint than the F8 4 hybrid.

That's interesting, and one of the reasons I didn't get along with a lot of hybrids until I found my CBX 119...a lot of lefts. Just a guess but it seems to me that in an effort to make them easier to hit, too much offset gets baked in.

In #CCC2, I found the F8 3 Hybrid was always hooking so I took it out of the bag. Later I tested the Tour Edge CBX119 4 Hybrid and it went straight. The Cobra has a Recoil shaft and the CBX119 has a Project X Evenflo shaft which is heavier. I do believe the heavier shaft helped.

Using Tour Edge Exotics EXS Driver w/ Mitsubishi Tense ck Blue regular shaft; Cobra King F8 4W & 6W w/Mitsubishi Tense ck Blue regular shaft; Tour Edge CVX 119 4 Hybrid , Irons 5-PW Wilson Staff D-7 w/Recoil 460 regular shafts; Cobra King wedges 50/54/58 & Bellum Winmore 707 putter.
