Anyone who challenged me is looking good so far! 🤣 84 still stands as my best effort, with one more round to be played.

Just couldn't get going this morning, had a bad case of the hooks and was something like 10 or 11 over by the time I got to No. 8 tee. Tends to happen when you lose two balls on the first three holes, and 40 (!) putts didn't help any. Just an awful day on the greens again.

I did end up playing much better from hole 11 on, parred 11 (rare for me) after a nice tee shot with my 2 hybrid and birdied the 500-something yard par 5 No. 14 hole for the first time this year, going 2 hybrid, 6 iron layup in front of water, 8 iron, 1 putt.

Also hit these two monsters off the tee with the 2 hybrid on 17 and 18. I think it's earning a spot in my bag post-challenge.

You're trying too hard. Take some deep breaths, settle the nerves, and get yourself square for week 3 and the come from behind win 👍.

Reliability of breath by breath spirometry and relative flow-time ...

Dammit! I knew I should have stuck with the kid 😆

We are all crying about having nothing below wedge this week but imagine if you are one of those people who don't even have a set wedge, you have a Vokey 46 degree instead.

I would think that that club would be out too as it is not part of the set....

In a greenside bunker with a 9 iron, I would be happy with this result

Wow, that sounds bad. My mom works in an ICU and she said it was pretty scary here in MA when the surge was happening and then it was looking really good. But it seems like things are ticking up here as well.

in the event that COVID prevents us from our competition I’m sure we can set up something for a later date! Even if it’s a side bet.

@B.Boston, please thank your mom for the work she does on the ICU, I can just imagine how hard and tiresome her days can be, with all that is going on.

I ended up shooting the most satisfying 88 I can recall on the University of Illinois Orange Course, white tees (6638 yards) in 10-15 mph winds. Rating/slope 71.7/127.

Clearly doesn't beat daviddvm, but I'll take it. There were too many long par 4's that were 3H, 3H and still short of the green (and of course they all seemed to be into the wind). My current Arccos HC is 11.7 and my league handicap for 9 is an 8. It was a lot of fun, but mentally a tough round, everything was a grind, especially after I developed a case of the pull/hooks for a few holes. Here is a pic of the first tough chip I had to attempt with a PW. I barely missed left with a hard kick down the hill. Yes, that is the top of the flag you can barely see.
20200808_134017.jpg.d19d230e8437799adafb02cebbb4ff6f.jpg
Result was better than I would have thought.
20200808_134112.jpg.eb3dc870f6d4f40b0406bdd2a0d5818b.jpg
I avoided bunkers until 17, which was a disaster. Two attempts to get out ending up with a double.
The greens had a lot of slope to them, but I still managed to end up with 33 putts. In the pic below, the peak of the green was nearly 6 feet above my feet. I'm not a fan of using PW exclusively around the green, especially since I couldn't really practice, but it worked out ok. My chipping handicap was 18 today.

Nice review @B.Boston! Do you see the Forged Tec irons strictly reserved for better players or could a high-handicapper consider these irons as well?

I think these have a good amount of forgiveness built into them. They look to me to be a touch larger overall then my 714 AP2s so I think they would work for a wide range of handicaps. The sole also feels to me to be really forgiving. I’m usually a digger in softer conditions and I’ve only taken two or three deep divots that I used to see regularly with the AP2.

I have hit a few way off the toe that have held the line strongly and lost an acceptable amount of distance.

Round stats, the fairway misses were mostly in the first cut, so overall a much better round.

Plus I got out of 3 sand traps with 1 shot on each, pretty good for the pitching wedge. Screenshot_20200809-101322.jpg.76db772819219237ab053723a7b7bdb8.jpgScreenshot_20200809-104555.jpg.0056425d707d0463f7f5f1de73e9f125.jpgScreenshot_20200809-104555.jpg.0056425d707d0463f7f5f1de73e9f125.jpgScreenshot_20200809-104613.jpg.85880cb2c9e2ddd42ca458052e59d003.jpg

I have hit a few way off the toe that have held the line strongly and lost an acceptable amount of distance.

My current interest in irons are those in the fairly new "players distance" category.  It seems most all of the OEM's are vying for a solid spot in this market space.  It's a large part of the bell-curve and captures what has been, IMO, a gap for we consumers who improve our game and want to move into the "players" category clubs. Trying to find the perfect balance between looks, distance, and shot shaping, while still offering forgiveness, is no doubt challenging.  But it seems the OEM design teams are making headway - and it would appear that Cobra has found a winner with the new Forged Tec irons (gushing reviews https://www.cobragolf.com/king-forged-tec-irons).  And, I don't know this Chris M., but we share the same plight 😕

I'm definitely including these in my next iron fitting.  My wife dosen't know it yet, but she's giving me a complete bag fitting at the Tru-Spec facility in Scottsdale next winter - early B-day present 🙂.

Based on my demo tests with the i500's, I think this is the club category I can move into - think I left some opportunity on the table when I made the switch.  I'd like to hear from those of you in this challenge and others on the forum who have recently ventured from "game improvement" into the players distance market. Who else has tested the Forged Tec irons and how do they compare to other PD irons you've tried/played?

I think if you really break it down these hollow body players distance irons are really your normal Game Improvement irons with an improved appearance package (Less offset, no cavity back, improved top line). They figured out how to get rid of the deep cut cavities and still put weight where they want it.

Did I mention they look great?

Good points.  I forgot to mention, but think it is the case, that many who have been playing in the "players" realm are moving into the PD category.  For them wanting more forgiveness but having to jump to GI designs is too large a gap as well.  It seems the PD market is a sweet spot.

The putter was hot today.

Super hard round, shot an 85.

So this is officially my best round of the year.

Great round and I'm going to second the notion that you played a beautiful course. Some of those tree lined tee shots would make me a little nervous.

Tied myself with another 84. Much better round today though, no three-putts, 2 hybrid was pretty good off the tee, and irons were probably the best they've been since I got the clubs.

Unfortunately hooked my tee shot into a bush on No. 14, cost me two strokes. Also, I wasn't really smart about leaving full pitching wedge distance in, which hurt me on several holes where I just didn't have a great touch from inside 85 yards. Ready to have my 58 wedge back!

I’d agree with this assessment. I’d put the handicap limit at about 15 though. I’d agree that they are similar in forgiveness to GI clubs, just in a nicer package.

Yesterday, in our skins game I completely chunked a 5 iron off of the 10th tee (195 yd par 3) that ended up only 10 feet short of the green, and all my playing partners couldn’t believe how far it flew for such a bad strike. Turns out that anti-divot sole I was complaining about came in handy. These things are certainly very forgiving, huge difference compared to my I200s for sure.
