Recommended Posts

I'll be playing my normal tees, about 6,600 yards par 71. Other options are 6,800 or way back to 5,2000. Interestingly I score better from the back tees.
Par 3's will require some interesting shot manufacturing, 2 play about 145, one at 180 and one at 200.

I usually play better around that yardage too. But the idea of just basically going for the green every time is intriguing. But you can’t forget about the slope and rating either.

I figure, if we’re participating in the Bomb it like Bryson challenge, I may as well try his grips!

The green tees are rated 6 under, blues are 2 over. I think playing off scratch from the greens messes with my head. It also doesn't feel like "real" golf.

Here is my entry: I moved up 1 set of tees so the same course I played last week at 6400 was around 6250 today.  Slope of 67.7/105
This challenge was especially difficult for me because I had to trust the worst club in my bag: My driver.  Much to my surprise I had one of the best days with the big stick this season. Averaged over 260 off the tee with a long of 327!  I did leave myself some tough shots a couple of times but overall today was a day where there were some birdie chances that I just flat out missed. I am going to take that as a positive even though I am a bit disappointed with the score of 80. I should shoot better from tees that are a bit closer but I am just happy I kept the ball on the course because that is NOT my MO.
I am not super confident that this will hold up B.Boston I kind of have a feeling you might go pretty low this week but I have no opportunity to better this score so good luck and play well!
PS I also had a pretty awesome caddy with me IMG_2017.jpg.2d9e44df0ed0431f9901bec1e839cb49.jpg

No joke, the pressure was on and honestly I was a bit nervous and had to scramble the first like 5 or 6 holes and i think I 1-putted like 4 of them.

Well, that certainly wasn’t my best effort... my full swing and chipping was a total mess. On the plus side, a putter change had me rolling the ball much better. But when you aren’t hitting greens, you are not getting birdie putts!

Definitely wasn't the round I was looking for with this challenge.  The round got off to a horrible start.  The guy they paired me with lost 5+ balls in almost 3-4 holes.  Then when I finally get into some bit of a rhythm, the group in front of us picked up my ball and I had to take the penalty stroke and re-tee 😡  I did make a huge 4th shot to end up 2 inches from holing out from 50 yards to get up and down for bogey.

The course itself was in great shape!  I did move up a set of tees, but don't think Pete Dye wanted people to take part in this challenge.  I ended up taking a lot of driving irons off the tee just to try to have some forgiveness in terms of fairway width.  I kept getting into trouble trying to drive the greens.  If I was just a bit off, I would end up OB.

My best drive came on 17.  The tee shot is 100% over water.  I ended up just in front of those bunkers in the back right.

All-in-all I ended up with an 88.  I'm a 14 handicap.  The course and slope rating is 65.1/107.

I just want to take a moment to applaud the level of dedication it takes to cut a hole in the scorecard to show your front nine score.

Just in case @Headhammer isn't following the "Shot of the Day" thread, a little something to put a bit of fear in his heart:

Nice start! Sounds like a tough course for this challenge but it sure looks nice!

If you get out again will it be there? Will you move back and see if it works better or try the same tees again?
