I'm gonna give the challenge a shot in my round with @Thin2win this afternoon. Trying to decide if I should take some of my irons out of my bag to make it easier to turn over the bag. On the other hand, I feel like mid-irons are going to be more versatile in terms of distance than clubs at either end of the bag, especially if I'm trying to get myself out of trouble from in the rough...

For folks who have already completed the challenge, what did you do and what do you recommend?

Unfortunately, it feels like I haven't had a lot to contribute here lately. Work has been really busy as we ramp up for the year and between that and playing actual golf I haven't added a ton to the conversation.

I have been able to make use of my lunch breaks and have been "digging in the dirt" for the past three weeks trying to get some of my swing issues sorted out. I ended up having a really good session today and wanted to share some numbers to show what these clubs are capable of. 

I'm still struggling a bit adapting to these irons, but I made a few tweaks to my setup and also really emphasized getting a good turn with every club over the past few days and they have been performing nicely. The below GIFs are indicative of what I would call a good strike for me (numbers from my FlightScope Mevo with a mix of Pinnacle, Bridgestone and Srixon range balls):

6 Iron

Pitching Wedge

Keep in mind the lofts of these clubs when looking at distance and ball speed. The PW is 42.5 degrees and the 6 iron is 24 degrees. 

The amazing thing about the irons only/woods only challenges is that it forced me to really practice with the 17 degree 2 hybrid. Since it is my only hybrid it "double-dipped" as an eligible club in both challenges. During my wood review I said I didn't think I'd find a use for this club, but I am definitely not letting go of it now. It's almost as long as my 3 wood off the tee! 

And, finally, the SpeedZone Xtreme driver. I still definitely love how forgiving this monster is. I would love to see my ball speed come up a bit more, but I'll be honest and say I didn't strike all of these out of the center. That's how crazy fast this driver is on off-center hits.

Is there anything else that we've failed to touch on in our four reviews so far that someone is dying to know?

Really nice recap, I'm impressed with the driver's numbers.

You have done a great job Cody adapting to new clubs is not easy. Work happens but you have definitely  done justice for MGS and cobra keep it up

That’s awesome man! As the saying goes, gotta take the good with the bad. And 190 carry with the 6i?! Strong lofts or not, that’s hella impressive.  

I noticed as well that I was hitting my 3H about as well and far as my 3W this past Sunday. It was a combination of being forced to use it and just getting more confident with it to simply swing hard.

COBRA SPEEDZONE STAND BAG

 

 

 

The SZ Stand Bag, the latest collab with COBRA & Vessel, combines the look, feel and durability of a Cobra Staff Bag, in a more compact package. When I saw this was a last-minute option from the ultralight cart and ultralight stand bags, I was the only one of the competitors that ordered this bag! But I kind of wondered will they really send me this bag? Well it turns out they sent all 5 of us this bag. Guarantee you no one is complaining about receiving this bag instead of an ultralight. By far the nicest stand bag I have ever had my hands on.

Look and Feel                                                     5 of 5 stars

You simply will not find a better looking bag than this!

Storage                                                                3 of 5 stars

For a stand bag the storage capacity is adequate. Just right for a walker whose needs are minimal.

On Course Performance                                  5 of 5 stars

This bag is light, functional, and rouged. Smooth edges and sleek details put this in a class by itself. 

Miscellaneous                                                    5 of 5 stars

The only stand bag I have ever owned is a Ping Hoofer Oklahoma State Cowboy bag. Ping makes highly rated stand bags. The SpeedZone stand bag blows it away with refinement and smoothness not available in any other stand bag on the market.

Play It Trade It                                                   5 of 5 stars

I play out of a staff bag that you have most likely seen. I like the storage capability of a big bag and I almost always ride in a golf cart. But when I travel my staff bags are too large and a stand bag is my preference. My SpeedZone stand bag is my new travel bag.

Cobra set all of us up with the SpeedZone stand bag, a collaboration between Cobra and Vessel Bags. The bag is a slightly downsized version of the SpeedZone staff bag used by Cobra staffers such as Rickie Fowler.

Look and Feel - 5/5 Stars

Simply put, the SpeedZone stand bag is one of the sharpest looking and best feeling bags I’ve ever been around. It is luxurious in feel, no surprise given Vessel’s reputation. While I understand the color scheme may not be for everyone, if you are a fan of Cobra you won’t find another bag that better embodies the brand.

The material is very sturdy, a welcome change from my Sun Mountain Sync’s nylon-like material that feels so light and fragile. The stitched Cobra snake and Tour Crown logos are . A faux-snakeskin accent panel running the length of the bag completes the look. 

And, really, how many stand bags out there have carbon fiber-wrapped legs?!?

Storage - 3/5 Stars

I try to keep my bag as light as possible given I walk most of my rounds with a push cart. It is simply too much work to push around a heavy bag. While the SpeedZone stand bag provides just enough storage for me, it is lacking in this area overall.

There is a large side pocket that can hold a jacket, with two smaller pockets inside. However, some of this space is reserved for the included rain hood. 

The ball pocket is large, though I generally store my laser rangefinder here along with a bag of tees and my keys and wallet during the round.

The soft-lined valuables pocket, embroidered with the Tour Crown logo, serves as the best place to hold everything I keep in my pockets during a round - balls, short and long tee, divot repair tool and ball marker. I don’t think I would trust my rangefinder out of its case here unless it was the only thing in the pocket.

The two small side pockets hold my golf glove, a can of sunscreen and a small bag containing first-aid supplies. Unfortunately, that’s about all the pockets can comfortably hold.

Almost every round this summer I’ve carried along a 32 ounce Gatorade Zero for hydration. My Sun Mountain bag had a very nice cooler pocket that was large enough to hold the bottle with no issues, and kept it cold for the entire round. The SpeedZone bag does not have such a pocket, but only two small insulated sleeves for much smaller bottles.

On-Course - 3.5/5 Stars

There have been no issues strapping the SpeedZone stand bag on my CaddyTek push cart. I have had no problems with the bag shifting or falling out of the cart’s pinch top or lower bungee straps. All of the pockets remain accessible while on the cart, and the only negative is that the towel/towel ring needs to be lifted up prior to placing the bag on the cart so that the upper supports don’t pinch it down.

I have used a 14-way top bag for the past decade, and my biggest complaint about the SpeedZone stand bag is the four-way top. I understand this is not the only bag on the market with this design, but I hate the four-way divider for multiple reasons:

    •    There is no dedicated putter well, which can make a putter with an oversized grip tough to remove.
    •    Clubs only stay in groups and not in order unless you’re very careful. This is my obsessiveness kicking in - with a 14-way top I have everything organized perfectly.
    •    It is tough at times to remove or replace a club without the grips grabbing other grips or club shafts. Sometimes it takes a good shake for all of the clubs to seat to the bottom of the bag.

I played in a steady rain while attempting the irons-only challenge, and the rain hood fit well and kept my clubs dry while still providing easy access to them.

To be fair to the review, I walked nine holes while carrying the bag and also played 18 with the bag strapped to a golf cart. 

I thought the bag performed really well when strapped to the golf cart, since the grips were much less likely to bind when the bag was standing straight up. I looped the cart strap through the handle, and the bag stayed secure all round.

Carrying, while not something I’d want to do all of the time, was surprisingly enjoyable. There is sufficient padding on both the straps and the bag to make the experience very comfortable. The bag employs a really nifty system that allows for the straps to move independently of each other and resist twisting. 

Miscellaneous - 3/5 Stars

The strap system is easily removed with four clips. It’s a fantastic design and purposeful for those of us who do not carry except out to the range.

I’ve noticed a few marks on the yellow shell of the bag, I think a light scrubbing will take them off without issue.

While the rain hood is a heavy material and well-built like the rest of the bag, it takes up considerable space in the largest side pocket. I only put a single box of balls in the side pocket along with the rain hood and it’s pretty full. Removing the rain hood is certainly an option, but, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of having one.

I also wish the bag had some velcro for my golf glove on the outer shell. It’s a feature on the Sun Mountain, and I found myself using it a lot to keep my glove dry between shots during the hot and humid Michigan summer.

Play It or Trade It - 4/5 Stars

This is a really solid stand bag, but the four-way top and lack of a putter well hamper its utility when strapped to a push cart. I struggle too often with grips grabbing each other when clubs are removed or put back into the bag. For this reason, I doubt I will continue to use the bag during my rounds after the end of #CobraConnect.

The SpeedZone stand bag, however, will become an excellent range/practice bag for me. I rarely take my full set of clubs to the range so binding is less of an issue. I love having the stand on the range, also.

I just can’t trade or not use a bag this beautiful!

Overall Score - 3.5/5 Stars

The SpeedZone stand bag would be an excellent bag if I carried every round. It is extremely comfortable; well-built but not heavy. And, it's a looker.

Unfortunately, the four-way top is a big deal breaker for me when using a push cart.

I had the 14-way version of the Vessel Player 2.0 and bought it for the exact reason you don't like the 4-way: absence of a putter well. Ultimately, I don't like 14-way bags as I kind of knew going into buying one, but thought that it was due to my old Hoofer 14 not having a putter well -- it wasn't. One of those "to each their own" kind of deals but if the Vessel 4-way had a putter well (which would make it a 5-way I guess?) I would probably have one instead of the Nike bag I picked up.

Official Cobra SpeedZone Bag Review - GB13

Wow! I must say, after expecting an ultralight stand bag, receiving this beauty was an unexpected surprise! (Teaser: I ain’t complaining!)  The SoeedZone bag is Cobra and Vessel’s attempt at combing the quality and professionalism of a staff bag with the everyday practicalities and necessary storage of a stand bag. 

Before this challenge, I was using a 5-way Callaway stand bag, that I’ve long since forgotten the name of, however it would be comparable to the Cobra Ultralight. I almost exclusively walk with a pushcart.

 

Looks -  5/5 Stars

Seriously, what did you expect here? This is the nicest stand bag I’ve ever seen. I’ve heard a lot of hype about Vessel bags, and in durability, looks, quality of construction, and pretty much everything else, they live up to the hype!

I must say, for as bold of a color scheme as it it, it is still a VERY professional looking bag. I’d have no issue walking into a fancy, traditionalist club with this bag, which is a strong testament to the overall design.

No little detail has been overlooked. From the embroidery, to the stamping, to the “snakeskin”, everything is absolutely flawless.

Storage -4/5 Stars

I’m a little surprised to see my fellow competitors (especially the walkers) give such low marks in this department. Being a frequent walker, I’m always striving to keep my bag as light as possible. Unfortunately, I like to pack heavy! However, I’ve had no issues fitting everything I need into my bag.

The big side pocket comfortable holds 4 bottles of water, snacks, and a jacket. I also safely keep my phone, keys, and wallet in the mesh pouch sewn into the sidewall of this pocket. 

The two front pockets are perfect for balls and tees respectively. 

The other two side pockets comfortably fit sunscreen, bug spray, a change of socks, and other miscellaneous items. 

My biggest complaint is the lack of a pocket in which you stand store your glove without folding it. I like to store it perfectly flat, and it just doesn’t fit quite right anywhere.

 

On Course Performance -  5/5 Stars

The SpeedZone bag fits easily on my pushcart and stays locked in for the entire round with no shifting. One of my biggest complaints about my Callaway bag was that the legs didn’t lock in place, and would always be engaged while on the pushcart. That really bothered me, and I’m super happy the SZ legs lock in place. 

I’ve actually enjoyed the 4-way divider, it seems rather logical to me (at least for my current bag set up). While I understand the OCD desire for the 14-way divider, I always found getting clubs in and out of it was very difficult. 

I did carry my bag for one round during this challenge, and the straps were very comfortable. I still always use my pushcart, but if you like to carry your bag, you’ll be happy with the SZ straps and cushioning.

Play it or Trade it -  5/5 Stars

I’ve never seen a bag this nice let alone owned one. It makes my old bag look like a crappy child's toy. The SZ bag is exquisitely crafted, and absolutely beautiful. This bag seems very durable, and there is no doubt that I’ll be using this bag for a long time.

Overall -  5/5 Stars

It’s a wonderful bag. Cobra and Vessel have truly created something special. I’d like to see them continue to partner to create their bags in the future. This bag has excellent storage, works great on my pushcart, and looks freaking awesome!

No kidding!! I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out, but man that is gross!! Seriously, how can you even get that many different sized divots, spaced out that evenly, pointed in every freaking direction!

Hahaha, I should grab a picture of my range sometime. My personal favorite are the digger "pits" where people have carved out an entire 2x2 section and basically made a huge hole. You can't use the grass next to it at all because you'd be standing below your ball.

At least with the cheese grater look you have decent footing and can connect the dots with your swings!

First off all of you guys are killing it with the reviews so thank you for that

So after making a cunning plan to use just 6 clubs and a putter, I threw that out of the window and went with a full set. I wanted to be fair to my opponent and to honor the spirit of the Cobra Connect Challenges.

I headed out to my home course, Slope 123, Rating 70.50 actual handicap of 11.8, and set about this excellent challenge. It really was one you had to think about as you went about it. There was no way I wanted to get stuck with a wood or a 60* on a 150 yard par three, I wanted to keep my driver for as many of the up wind holes and I really wanted to score well to challenge @daviddvm. I tracked my shots via the Arccos app and the only time it didn't show the correct club was on the 14th green when I putted with a 56* to finish a cycle. Speaking of cycles I got through 3 and 3/4 rounds of clubs, on the 5th, the 10th tee, 14th green and had 2 clubs left when I chipped onto the 18th. I walked away feeling satisfied and happy with my score which was.....84

I had a couple of highlights, a massive 3 wood off the third tee, a miracle two putt with a 56* on 14, hitting three out of 4 par threes and my up and down on 18. I had one horror show on 9, a thinned 60* that nearly ended in the car park and lead to a double .

I had a ball with this challenge and hope I have done enough for another W this week

Will preface with handicap etc. before I forget: HCP 7.1 Course 68.6/118 Score 84

Clearly day 2 was much better in several ways (2 3+ putts though)

We have had unbelievable weather and the past 2 days were no different. Little cooler this week (pants worthy rounds) but no matter how you play how can you ever be disappointed when you see this in the morning and make contact like this (at least on a few holes, if it weren't for the shaft bend I would have thought I was at address)

This challenge was a mind challenging process. I thoroughly enjoyed hitting every single club in the bag and being forced to make shots I would never make in a normal round (I.E. 8 iron from 95 after a perfect tee shot or a 3W out of a bunker because it was the only option....full disclosure I had double bogey that hole and no I didn't make it out on the first shot)

The par 3 was to finish the day today.....Almost Jordaned it. Closest I have ever been on a par 3 and that hole is no slouch with a tight window and postage stamp protected green (yes I made the bird)

All in all this challenge was awesome but I think this will be my posted round for it. I want to fully enjoy Red Tail tomorrow which is a pretty highly regarded course around here and I have not played in several years. So will not mention @B.Boston round until he is ready to post but he will remain unscathed against challengers (sorry members couldn't bring him down a peg this week).

That is one of the things that I was able to control for this challenge, we started on the 10th hole, so 11 was a par 3, then the next one was 17th, once we made the turn 5 and 6 were par 3s, so I was ensuring to save the clubs that best fit the yardage to use for those holes, otherwise, I was super happy with the outcome of the round and experience, it got me thinking that maybe I need to start planning the rounds in advance and think outside the box with the club usage.

I also almost chucked my 3 wood on the pound yesterday, too many topped shots.

But then I remember that when I need to practice a lot more with it.

Alright guy round one of the club eliminator challenge is in the books.  I shot 39/39 for a 78.  The slope and rating is 118/68.6 and went through my bag 3.5 times (every 5 holes) and I putted with a GW once to get me reset (almost made the 30 foot birdie!).  I'm going to need to play really well tomorrow to have a chance to beat this score, but we'll see.  I'll need to do a little better to take a run at @xOldBenKenobiX who has me by a bout 2 strokes on the Net scores right now (by my calculations).

 

At this point I'd like to give a shout out to the Cobra Speedzone 5-wood and Fujikura Ventus Blue shaft. 

This club has been excellent for me as of late.  and with the exception of a bad hook and a bad swing today it has been super consistent.  Here's my drive yesterday on the par 5 8th and My drive today looked identical outside of a different outfit.

 

And this is what my drives from the last 10 rounds have been with the Speedzone 5-wood. As @Lacassem says in the video... "Automatic" would be a good way to describe it.

I think I'll be using this more off the tee when challenges allow and in the future after that.  If I've learned anything form #CCC4 it's that I do not need to take Driver off the tee nearly as much as I think I do.  I'll take 240-250 with 9 yards of dispersion!  I'm going to be looking into a Ventus for the driver next.

Alright guy round one of the club eliminator challenge is in the books.  I shot 39/39 for a 78.  The slope and rating is 118/68.6 and went through my bag 3.5 times (every 5 holes) and I putted with a GW once to get me reset (almost made the 30 foot birdie!).  I'm going to need to play really well tomorrow to have a chance to beat this score, but we'll see.  I'll need to do a little better to take a run at @xOldBenKenobiX who has me by a bout 2 strokes on the Net scores right now (by my calculations).

 

At this point I'd like to give a shout out to the Cobra Speedzone 5-wood and Fujikura Ventus Blue shaft. 

This club has been excellent for me as of late.  and with the exception of a bad hook and a bad swing today it has been super consistent.  Here's my drive yesterday on the par 5 8th and My drive today looked identical outside of a different outfit.

 

And this is what my drives from the last 10 rounds have been with the Speedzone 5-wood. As @Lacassem says in the video... "Automatic" would be a good way to describe it.

I think I'll be using this more off the tee when challenges allow and in the future after that.  If I've learned anything form #CCC4 it's that I do not need to take Driver off the tee nearly as much as I think I do.  I'll take 240-250 with 9 yards of dispersion!  I'm going to be looking into a Ventus for the driver next.

Thanks!  I have to say I didn't get into too much trouble with clubs and reset perfectly as the end of 5 holes.  Once I putted to reset, but the holes I hit a bad tee-shot tended to be where I was going to reset so I had an extra club anyway.  I got lucky in that respect.  Red Tail looks like it will be a much greater challenge based on the layout.

Wednesday night I fell asleep pretty early only to wake up around 3:30 am! And my thoughts of the upcoming round whirling through my mind

Could not go back to sleep, all I could think about was how to manage my 14 in the chamber round for Thursday. So I gave into my mind and thought through each hole on the front nine, playing out the most likely scenarios one hole after another...must have been like counting sheep because I did fall back asleep somewhere around 5:00 am But promptly arose at 6:30 to prepare for my 9:56 tee time at Timber Creek Golf Course. My usual foursome were all on board for this weeks round and were somewhat amused by this weeks challenge. But as the round ground on they seemed a little put off by my constant attention to my spreadsheet and obsessive course management. In the end it did pay big dividends as I played a spectacular round with few mistakes and some very creative and effective shots to manage the round effectively.

Shout out to  goaliewales14 for the spreadsheet idea, really worked great!

I found as did Nunfa0 that when you putt with a wedge it still registers as a P. I used my 54* SW on hole number 4 and made the short putt to complete my first cycle through my clubs and avoid having to tee off on the par 4 5th hole with SW.

As you can see we played Timber Creek GC a course with 27 holes. I played Pines White tees 69.8/123 and Timber trails white tees 70.3/125 for an 18 hole round.

My iron play for the most part was really good and short game and putting was stellar. I saved my Driver for the 3rd hole par five and made my first mistake of the day and lost my first ball in four rounds as I lost the ball into the creek on the right. The driver was my weakest aspect of my game yesterday...I guess it was good I only hit it 4 times!

On the ninth hole I'm pretty happy with my creativity. Faced with my 3 wood as my last remaining club I ended up in the  rough beside the green, so I used my putter to chip through and out of the rough leaving myself a makeable 4 footer from just below the hole. 

This competition has really opened my eyes to being more creative and manufacturing shots instead of just thinking seeing how far I can hit the ball...I'll be leaving the driver in the bag more often.

Got my round in yesterday, right up front here's the details: Handicap 21.2 Course Rating 69.8 Slope 120 Score 98

I only had 4 penalty strokes, but that doesn't accurately represent the struggles I was facing in staying out of trouble. There were a number of instances where in a normal round I would take an unplayable but in this challenge elected to take a wild swing at the ball to get it to move 3 feet or so back into the rough so that I could use a club and get closer to a bag reset.

Early on, when I didn't have the iron available that I wanted I elected to club up and try and smooth my swing, but that was unsuccessful, so as the round went on I began to instead club down and work on keeping my hands out in front of the ball to reduce dynamic loft at impact and had much more success doing that.

The only time I had to use a terrible club option off the tee was on 18, a 392-yard par 4 where I had to tee off with my pitching wedge, and then follow that up with a sand wedge shot. On the par 5 17th I had planned on going driver > 6 iron > sand wedge, and then putt with my pitching wedge. Instead I crushed my driver, and hit the best 6 iron shot of my life to end up with a 15-foot chance at my first-ever eagle. I'm sure @Thin2win will chime in at some point to let you all know how that went for me....

So would I do that challenge again? I don't think so. I was ready to quit after 3 holes, but pushed through and started taking my round less seriously and just focusing on having fun. I feel like one of the strongest points in my bag is chipping around the green, but not being able to go back to my club of choice for those shots really eliminated that for me.

It was a beautiful day though, at a beautiful course, and I had a great time!

Alas, @daviddvm, I don’t think I’ll be able to get a round in this week. It’s been rough teaching virtually. I feel endlessly behind, so I’ll probably be spending all weekend trying to get caught back up.

Hot damn ... that’s a phenomenal round!!! Very impressed.
