A nine hole, full bag practice round this morning. Since there was a scheduled outing, I needed to be off the course for them by 8 AM. Finally had one of those days where I had almost everything working and didn't kill the round with a bad shot. I took what I worked on at the range on Thursday and had an excellent ball striking round, and a very good day off of the tee as well. (Arccos notes this as a +1, but it has one hole incorrectly labeled as a par 3 instead of 4, so this is even par and the best nine hole score I've ever recorded regardless.)

Screenshot_20200822-101527.jpg.653cedadd86a8c9ee2c77192b2b639f1.jpg

I was able to tee off pretty early on No. 10 because it runs west-to-east into the sunrise. It's a 6 iron off the tee for me, so I was able to follow the initial flight for quite a while before it dropped off into darkness. Great start to the round. One of my best shots of the day followed, from about 117 to pin I pulled the gap wedge and put a good swing on it but could only see it heading toward the green. Left me with this when I got up to the green, and I converted the birdie putt.

IMG_22082020_102055_(1280_x_960_pixel).jpg.8f0f163580e94a6a1e963296710e8200.jpg

I've been trying to break rounds into three holes chunks, which as helped me focus on smaller stretches at a time. Played 10-12 +1 (my goal is +1), 13-15 even par (just missed birdie putts on all three, my goal is even par), and played 16, 17 and 18 one-under (goal is +1) with my first birdie of the year for me on No. 17.

I really had the SpeedZone Xtreme working for me down the home stretch:

161718.jpg.4a925f0314b349e78fd457dd1c31eb16.jpg

I hit 7/9 greens which is fantastic for me, and actually airmailed the green long on the par 3 No. 12 with a 9 iron from 145 that went about 148 and kicked off the back of the green.

Starting to round into form with the SpeedZones in the bag. Taking one more crack at the 14-club challenge tomorrow morning when I'll be able to get out for a full 18 holes.

Great round.

+1 there as well! 💪 Landing that 114 swing speed right on the sweet spot, eh? 😉

@Headhammer, unfortunately ... I’m bowing out of this week’s competition. 😢 Wasn’t able to make it out this past week ... did get to play today, but was mainly focusing on the LX5 watch to review for MGS and it was the first time we played the course.

It’s okay, you can breath easy now. 😁

This experience has 100 percent validated the tour length for me. I'm not saying everyone should run out and chop down their drivers, but as someone with slightly longer than "standard" arms for my height, having the driver be just a bit shorter has done wonders for my game off the tee.

I also hit two awesome shots with the 54 degree wedge today and continue to really, really love the KING MIM Blacks. That includes this one from something like 105 out on No. 13 that tracked the pin so well that I thought I almost dunked it when it hit the green (Obviously, my depth perception needs a little work, but this was a great birdie chance that slid just right of the hole). Perfect hop and stop with a tiny bit of pull back.

Okay full disclosure... I sucked on the front nine of my local club tournament today! Then on the 11th hole par 5 THE EAGLE HAS LANDED happened and my round was salvaged by a sterling even par back nine that also contained a narrowly missed second eagle put on the last par 5 on the back. Even par back nine for a round saver thanks to a hot driver and putter.

Wow! What a round! Unfortunately Georgia weather has decided not to corporate with me this week. I played 9 holes on Thursday at 3 over before getting rained out as I rushed to finish hole 9.... after 2 inches of rain last night I was unable to play today.

I have a money match tomorrow, so I’m going to have to play straight up with that one. But I bet with that score you would’ve beaten me anyway.

Late round, hot and VEEEEERY slow. I shot a 76 at Rancho Sierra Golf Course in Palmdale with the 14 club challenge. Frustrating round because I couldn’t capitalize on some easy opportunities. And I messed up and had to half swing a driver on a 150 yard par 3 🙄. But the course rating is 63.8, slope of 105, and I’m a 6.5 index for a 0 handicap there.

Even par back nine for a round saver thanks to a hot driver and putter.tenor.gif

When I left the course I was leader in the clubhouse with Net score of 69.

My challenge round was a massive struggle.  Ended up 90 net 84. Par 71 rating 71/128.  Conditions were about as tough as I've played in. My method for was to stick a piece of painters tape on the club once it had been used, then remove it after it was used in the next rotation.

Wind was a solid 25mph when I started, and seemed to get stronger. Fairways were very soft with no run. To top things off the greens were very fast with a lot of difficult pin positions. It was virtually impossible to stop the ball downwind and downhill. Twice the ball stopped rolling after I had played my shot, cleaned my club, stuck tape on it, put it away and walked 30 metres.

By the end I was drained. After spending 2 days rocking backwards and forwards in the corner I've finally got the energy back to post my score.

The challenge itself was tough enough, but the conditions combined with it made it brutal. There is no way I would have played if I hadn't challenged @daviddvm.  The weather has been even worse since, hopefully it improves and things dry out before next weeks challenge.

I hope no one else had to put up with conditions like I did.

Did anyone else found that the hardest part of the challenge was to keep track of the clubs that were used, not hitting the shots?

It did try that at the range yesterday before our round, choked up about a half inch or more on the driver. It’s definitely a different setup and felt as though as I was standing more upright. Contact was good, but my goodness, the ball flight was definitely lower and more piercing. I have such an ingrained routine on the tee box that I didn’t try it all while out playing 18, but it’s something I’ll be practicing more and eventually utilize out on the course.

I’ll be posting an update on my round yesterday in a bit, but playing Red Tail was an both a beast and a blast with this challenge. It forced me to really focus on every shot.

The biggest take away from this challenge for me is that when you miss a green the first priority is absolutely to get the ball on to the green. Then you can start to think about the flag. Too many times in the past I’ve left myself with a second chip because of not getting into the green. That would have been a big no-no in this challenge.

Also, it felt really good to hit some balls at the range before playing. I do miss that during my morning rounds. This was after my last 7-8 balls warming up:

I used Arccos to keep track and that made it pretty easy. It was the thinking 3-4 holes ahead that kept me in my toes

Ok @daviddvm here is my entry for this week. I decided to play a different course than the previous challenges and I played the back tees for a distance of 6730. The course today is WAAAAAY more narrow than the other and quite a bit more difficult so I wasn't sure how this was going to go.  I am trying to decide between Arcoss and shotscope so I took my V3 out there to track the round today and for the 2nd straight time it didnt work, so things were off to a rough start.

1665413252_image4(2).jpeg.5671c3ebd2068b86a7af224c88aa37a3.jpeg

Honestly, this was my best challenge so far.  I was so caught up with thinking about the current shot and what clubs I needed to leave myself for the next hole that I didn't realize that I was even through 8 holes. Then, one skanky block ruined it all and things started moving too fast... tripled 9, doubled 10 and I was done. I tracked my club usage using a blank card.  Just so you all know I only play with 13 clubs (PW-5) including the putter so there was no funny business going on here. The few holes where I struggled really threw off my plan as I had to modify some greenside shots like a short sided 3 wood and a 5 iron bump and run.

1830117906_image3(2).jpeg.9ea9d173ba988f3f65703847ab5b5b7f.jpegimage1.png.da92ccafb60190b94344ee6211bed852.pngimage2.png.e51af8116d2b80b6843b60e6639c6022.png

As you can see, it was good until it wasn't. I felt like I really missed an opportunity today....for the last few weeks I have felt like I am on the verge of it all coming to together at the same time.  The challenges have helped me tremendously.  I have learned so much about my game and that I truly CAN compete even if I am not hitting my driver well I have plenty of other options that can get the job done.

info for entry: Slope 74 Rating 137 Handicap 9.1 score 81 yardage 6730

Took the momentum from yesterday's nine holes and ran with it this morning.
20200823.gif.133b29052e4df29f3e2aa826e7796e88.gif
Set a new personal best (by two strokes) with a 76!
handicap.png.bcb86f0af4bb34dbfc96bccd3047d983.png
Played the back nine at even par for the second day in a row. I birdied No. 12 for the first time all year, just missed birdie putts on 13 and 15, plus a few that went hole high leaving tap in pars from about a foot. I hit 10 greens overall. Turned my bag over three full times and didn't have too much trouble, save for a wasted 6 iron on No. 9 that went no where when I tried to play a long chip from the very wet fairway. Did end up having to hit a cut up 8 iron from 110 yards over water on No. 14 (knee knocker!), and the same thing with a 7 iron from about 75 yards on No. 15.

Struck my irons and wedges really well, putted well, and minus about five holes I got off the tee OK. I'm ecstatic that I saved bogey as often as I did on the front as I had four holes with terrible tee shots. Hit a hosel rocket driver on No. 3 less than 100 yards, drop-kicked a 4 iron on No. 6, pull hooked an 8 iron way long and left of the green on No. 8 and smacked a tree on No. 9 with the 3 wood. Still, I saved bogey on three of the four holes and parred everything else to make the turn with a 40.

Tee game was much better on the back nine. I hit two fantastic 2 hybrids about 240 each on No. 10 and No. 11, and then, after I caught up with a twosome in a cart that let me play through on No. 14 tee, I smashed a great driver 260-ish onto the uphill fairway with the audience. (Felt good!)
I reset the bag on No. 16, so I had driver and 3 wood available to me on Nos. 17 and 18. I knew two good holes would put me in the 70s, but didn't really realize where I was at. I absolutely drilled both tee shots right down the pipe.

Not good enough for first or second place this week, but man I'm still on a high from it. Such a fun round.

Well played!! Looks like you’re stringing together some good golf!
