Extra points if anyone gets a hole in one this week @GolfSpy STUDque

I frankly want to see that too. I’m waiting for @daviddvm and his magic One Lengths.

Yeah, they’ve really put a lot more effort into the greens this year, and it has paid off in some really nice rolling fast greens. Last year they were pretty much like playing Plinko.

One of the reasons I was dying to get a hole in one is that Cobra said they would do something special if one of us got one. So yes, there is a something extra if one of the competitors gets one.

EDIT: Cobra has done a lot of special things for us already!!

Maybe this week as a side bet, the fans should pick who do we think can get a hole in one.

Alright I was able to sneak out for 9 this morning and got paired up with another single.  It took me a while to get going starting bogey, double, double.

My putting was ok but definitely looks better than it really was.  On the third hole I went long into the fringe which is absolute death on that hole.  I proceeded to hit a putt that would have travelled 3-5 feet on level ground and watch it slowly roll down the slope, past the hole, and into the fringe on the other side.  Two “chips” with my putter and a 1 one putt on the hole somehow doesn’t feel as good as a “one putt.”

60144E46-CE76-4903-ACE2-669BE87173C4.png.a1f1968863c020a843fb34d40ffd56b8.png

At any rate after that I settled in was swinging much better and this week’s challenge isn’t about putting... its about getting it nice and tight to the cup!

All I have to say is things went really good (legitimate birdie opportunities) or really bad (missed greens... usually short sided).  I played the day off the tee trying to get inside the 150 so that those shots would qualify as well, and I’m glad that I did.  On the two par 3’s one was playing its full length about 224 to the pin and I hit a bad hybrid that missed the green wide left.  The second par three, my finishing hole, was playing about 120 and I hit a good shot that settled about 16-17 feet from the cup.  Good birdie opportunity, but not even in the conversation for this week’s challenge.

My two best tries came as approach shots on par 4s.

The first was on the 4th hole from 129 yards.  I hit a pitching wedge to the slightly up-hill green and watch the ball fall out of sight tracking towards the flag stick.  I thought I hit a good one and knew it would be close if I had the distance control down.

Right about 59 inches after landing short and releasing towards the hole.  I happily made my birdie putt and moved on happy that I at least had a decent effort after the bad first three holes.

My best effort of the day came on the 7th hole which is an uphill par 4 with a tricky second shot due to the incline and slant of the fairway.  You don’t really get much of a level lie at all in the fairway which can make for some really interesting approach shots.  I habitually come up short on this hole so I made sure to take an extra club and a good hearty swing to the tucked back left pin.  I would normally never go at this pin as most lies want to start left and go left for me on this hole.  I aimed well right of the flag anticipating the draw and hit another shot that was tracking to the flag when I saw a bounce and it disappeared from view.

At this point the single who I had been playing with and who was up ahead said “whoa, nice shot, that had some zip on it!” So I figured I got another good shot in.  After climbing up the green I was happy to see the results!

Right at 4 inches!  Not quite good enough to take down @Headhammer’s excellent effort but I was thrilled to have a kick in birdie.

With the weather this weekend looking unsettled I’m not sure I’ll have the opportunity to improve, but if I do it will be at one of the two executive courses near by with my 5 year old playing along side.  He had fun up in Maine and I figure this was the perfect week to bring him along for one of the challenges and get him back out onto the course.

So I didn't know how to bring this up, but I guess I'll just come right out with it.

I own a time machine.

I just finished testing it and I've confirmed that it works. It's legit. 100%.

How do I know it works?

I went into the future and was able to snag a pic of the one and only Rickie Fowler! Yep. Mr Cobra/Puma himself. I caught up with him at TPC Boston at the SuperHyperGlobalAmazingMegaNet Open in 2038, which is probably going to be the last major tournament for him before joining the CanSomeonePLEASEBeatPhilMickelsonAlready Tour. His game was pretty good, and glad to see he's still repping Cobra and outfitted head to toe in Puma. Their hats in the future really do a good job of hiding his male pattern baldness. The shirt fit... well, you can tell he has two kids and likes his Chipotle. But he's still got game.

Looks like Cobra gets very conservative with their color palette in the future... And is that a retro "Snake" logo I see on the side of the 2038 driver!?  What's it called!?  Come on man!  I need details!

Well Rickie's showing his age, y'know? From what I heard he feels white and black are "slimming" or something like that.

That's the new King F32 driver he's holding right there, with a face made of Unobtainium. Sadly, due to the ball rollback rules of 2031, his average drives only go 350 yards. He's been dubbed a short hitter and a has-been due to how little his driver flies by folks on the internet golf forums.

Very nice effort Bryan

Do you have the details published anywhere in case I can play?

Of course, but I'm not going to tell you! 🤣

It's on the message board for the club. If you sign in and down the left side you'll see the menu. Click on the one that looks like a building and that should be you to where the posts are. I believe Diego from The Grint will be sending something out to all the members via email because a lot of people don't read the messages.

Hurricane Laura caused widespread fear and concern in my area this week. Even though the majority of the Houston area was unscathed by the category 4 storm most of the area golf courses were closed Wednesday and Thursday including the course I felt would be conducive to this week’s challenge.
So part of my challenge was to find a course that was open and with available tee times. The result was Wildcat Lakes course near downtown Houston. Not a course that I would have picked for a closest to the pin contest with it’s expansive and undulating greens that are often hidden from view from the tee and fairway.
My strategy was sound and I gave myself opportunity on almost every hole to get one close but my ball striking was subpar.
Epic fail...
While my round at Wildcat did not produce a quality tape measure shot the aesthetic beauty and panoramic views makes this a great venue anytime you can play Wildcat. The heat index 112*

Glad to hear you’re safe! And those are some great views and nice rolling fairways.

I hope any spies in the path of the storm are doing well and are safe.

As many of you know I've been dealing with some severe elbow pain for a while and after conferring with my doctors, Chairmen @GolfSpy STUDque , Lexi Thompson and my family, it is with deepest regrets that I announce my withdrawal from the Cobra Connect Challenge. I want to thank Cobra Golf & My Golf Spy for the opportunity and I wish my fellow competitors best of luck as they continue through the final challenges. While I'm down, I'm not out and still have a few things to offer over the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled.

Rest up man!  We'll miss having you compete, but you've done some damage so far.... with only two main events to go you're not out of the competition yet!  I'd imagine you're not in a terrible place on the season long stats either.

Get well soon Hammer!
