I did make it out to my local course yesterday and I did avoid a heat stroke thanks to an isolated shower that pleasantly  interrupted my round between the 5th and 6th holes.

I was striking the ball well on the first hole and almost sunk a long birdie putt from just off the green, then after a good drive on the second I hit a series of horrible shots that made me wonder if the effort was worthwhile in the heat.

Clint Eastwood Mad In Gran Torino Gif  What's going on here?

I tried to refocus. Hit pretty nice drive into some newly arriving wind gusts as it started to sprinkle, followed by a 9 iron shot that danced around the pin that I thought was going to really good and turned out to be competitive at least. But I missed the little downhill slider for birdie.

The shot landed below the hole then stopped above the hole which appeared to be much closer from fairway view. At this time the greens were very firm. This was a high nine iron into a fairly stiff breeze and still hopped 15 feet from ball mark.

IMG_2294.JPG.0ba53cbf0da6ba7e724b51708e660ae6.JPG

Then the shower interupted play for about a half hour. I just set in my cart under a canopy of trees and waited it out. Once the rain stopped next up a par 3 6th hole.

I pulled the 9 iron off the tee but distance was spot on.

image.png.c5cdb3ae6f16b092ceddece228ea9d1c.png

And I made a really nice putt! Not sure why I measured this one I knew it was further away than the previous hole. But turned out  nice to know the exact length since I holed the putt.

IMG_2293.JPG.820442d2e0adf765d6e4fa8c65a66f96.JPG

With the rain soften greens this 9 iron shot stopped quickly and spun back. next up the par 5, 7th hole.

Wait for it...Jim Rome is Burning' Apparently Moving to ESPN2 - Sports Media Watch  This is my entry for closest to the hole challenge this week!

My magic ONE length 7 iron to the rescue after a mediocre drive and a pulled 5 wood that I thought may have gone into the creek but stopped in the rough.

Yes I made the putt.

The last two holes were anticlimactic and after slightly more than two hour front nine I decided I had enough.

@daviddvm - Well done! Looks like I'm rounding up the bottom once again after a brief one-week hiatus. 🤣

I played 18 this morning, and as I kind of expected following my lesson Thursday, didn't hit the ball very well. Lost two balls out of bounds/into the woods left which really hurt the score.

20200830.thumb.gif.92ef2a3f08daf4d18cf52cde7d0243aa.gif

Had one shot where I thought I might best my 7'1" effort from Tuesday's par 3 round. Pulled pitching wedge on the par 3 No. 12 hole, flag was middle green. Went right at it, from the tee it looked like it landed really close. Unfortunately, it caught a small downslope and took a big hop away from the pin. Still, was an easy par on a relatively tough hole for me. Just wish I could have gotten the ball to stop in its mark!

I shot a smooth even par 27 with 5 GIR and 4 up and downs.  I wish I could make all approach shots like that on a regular course!  The holes varied today from a low of about 90 yards to a long of 170.  It was a surprising mix of looks with some up and down hill too.

None of my shots really tracked to the flag as I was favoring a cut shot today that I never started far enough left.  I was happily pin high a lot so I’ll take it.  Here are a few pics from the day:

68F5143A-3EFF-4FC0-AA87-9873D5785131.jpeg.3fa0f73ca9ef760bfc9c7cdd5fafc5e1.jpeg

Jackson hit the ball really well on this hole here and might have had made the green but it tailed off into the environmentally sensitive area and was unfortunately lost.  He still had a great time though!  It was a really good hit, just to a bad spot.  I told him Daddy does that all the time too.

And one last one of the three generations of Pluta men golfing together for the first time!

Looks like fun!

I thought the same after going +5 over 27 holes at the par 3 I played. If I could get up and down/hit the green and two putt from 100-120 yards consistently, I'd have a good day on a regular course!

I’m very happy with the distance gaps I’ve been seeing. I was worried at the start with the lofts being what they are but everything has been slotting in nicely.

I’m very happy with the distance gaps I’ve been seeing. I was worried at the start with the lofts being what they are but everything has been slotting in nicely.

Save for a little compression at the top between the 4 iron and 2 hybrid, I've been really impressed with the gapping as well, even the six degree drop from gap to 54 has been more than manageable. I'm strongly considering dropping the 4 iron and replacing it with a SpeedZone 4 hybrid (21 degrees) and I think it would be about perfect. I'm really digging the SpeedZone irons more and more as I've been playing more.

Since the initial club reviews were so early on in the process, I want to do a mini-follow up on the driver, irons and wedges when this is all over. I wouldn't change my overall scores at all, but I definitely have some additional thoughts that would be good to centralize.

Week 6 Recap

Competitors: Our heroes went flag hunting this and almost delivered on the perfect moment of a Hole in One during the challenge. @Headhammer went out with a BANG leaving his within 2 inches and, literally, inching out @B.Boston for this week's win. With another consistent week, @daviddvm holds on to the the top spot (by virtue of tiebreaker) with the duck boats hot on his heels. Unfortunately we're losing Hammer to injury from here on out but he can certainly be proud of his recent surge up the leaderboard.

Week6.png

Fans: Halloween costumes were RIGHT. You guys are scary. We're going to shoot these off to Cobra for input as well so stay tuned for a formal announcement in a day or two. If you want to see them all in one place, check out this Google Slideshow: HERE

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Week 7 - IRL Alt Shot

Competitors: This week will take teamwork. Our competitors have been tasked with finding an in-real-life person to act as their alt shot partner. We gave them a few different options to accomplish this in a COVID-friendly environment but the task is simple: shoot the lowest CCNet score in an alt shot format. The CCNet formula got a little bump in complexity as we'll now be needing the partner's HC in addition to the Slope and Rating of the tees played.

Fans: Sorry, this will be a limited field event. The partner of the winning competitor will bring home this week's Puma Swag. We would also like to hear from the IRL teammate with their thoughts of the Cobra setup, recognizing the fact that they may not be a perfect fit size-wise.

Oh no, you didn't mention these were going to be sent to Cobra...I feel some lawsuits coming...for defamation of character!

Had a fun time playing with my oldest son and my dad today.  My father in law couldn’t make it so @Lacassem’s brother played with us.

Jackson hit the ball really well on this hole here and might have had made the green but it tailed off into the environmentally sensitive area and was unfortunately lost.  He still had a great time though!  It was a really good hit, just to a bad spot.  I told him Daddy does that all the time too.

This is awesome!  As a kid I grew up on a course like this, and even still it's nice to mix it up on a short course which levels the playing field of different skill levels

IMG_2295.JPG.02171b37645bf98b099857b2f3d6a2d5.JPG
