I’m in, hope I do better than my Super Bowl picks, almost can’t be worse.

I’m thinking @GB13 is overdue to go low. I know he won’t let me down.

Yep, I played there for the first and only previous time last year (from the whites) and it’s a beast from there! It’s situated on an Indian reservation in the middle of nowhere. Its a beautiful setting, surrounded for miles by wide open rolling prairie. That said, it is maintained absolutely perfectly with super quick greens, and is 100% my favorite course. I’d say it’s an absolute must play if you’re in the area... but I’m not really sure why you would be.

Seriously, check out this photo gallery which doesn’t even do it justice:

Well testers, this has been an absolute pleasure to follow and occasionally participate in. All 5 of you have done a sterling job and you all deserve to win but there can be only one...

giphy.gif

My question to you all is, now that you are all well into this challenge and knowing how it has gone, would you have had a different set make up? Would you have approached the challenges differently?

About 10 years ago I probably would have made a specific trip to get there  after seeing those photos but not now. Maybe In 10 when the kids are older.

lots of Jones courses out this way so I have no doubt it’s beautiful And challenging. Good luck this week!

With a swing like that, you have to be mentally strong! I also use the two-finger overlap grip like Furyk, but not many others do.

Seriously! I am at a loss that this summer is coming to a close and we’re almost through 2 full months of #CCC4 madness!

To Echo Cody, thank you, thank you, thank you, to Cobra, My Golf Spy, our fantastic Mods, Arccos, my 4 competitors, and every member who followed along with us and challenged us! It’s great to see so many of you guys engaged and enjoying this event as much as the competitors are and there’s no way we would be 167 pages into this if it weren’t for your participation.

A quick side note, you all really need to try some PUMA clothes... they’re quickly becoming my preferred brand. I have two polos and a pair of pants that fit me perfectly. I’ll be getting more.

I also may or may not have just picked up the ultralight cart bag to give a try and I’ll be sure to post a quick comparison between it and the Speedzone stand bag. emoji6.png

Thanks everyone!
One last week.
One last push!

LFG! #cuetheduckboats

Well.... my update on the Cobra Ultralight Cart Bag will be a quick one.  It's lovely.  I love the pockets, features, and deeeeeeep cooler pouch.  However, it will be going back.  It doesn't seem to match up well with my CaddyTec push cart.  the arms that lock the top in place are either too loose to prevent twisting, or squeeze the sides in too much.  Also the towel clip seems to be in a tough spot.  Considering the Cobra x Vessel Speedzone Stand bag fits so well on the pushcart and works just fine on a cart I'm not going to bother bringing the Cart bag with me to Maine and will be sending it back.

Is it a really lightweight material? That's my major complaint with my Sun Mountain Sync on the Caddytek. To get it "secure" you end up squeezing the bag a lot.

No issues with the SpeedZone x Vessel bag since it has a lot more structure and heft to it.

Yes, while the top is well structured and solid that ends just where the arms of our cart would hold it.  With the Cart bag empty and my hands towards the top of the side pockets I can literally squeeze the bag so my hands touch. All the support for the main structure is 4 rods at the corners of the bag (much like a tent).

The Speedzone Stand bag may be heavier, but they put the weight into the structure and material and it really shows.

I would have replaced the 4 iron with the 21 degree 4 hybrid. That is the only regret of my club choices.

Based on the gaps I'm seeing now, I have nice a progression of distances from driver, 3 wood to 2 hybrid, but then there is very little difference between my 4 iron and 5 iron. Some of that is because I rarely hit the 4 iron, but I so rarely hit the 4 iron because I've really struggled with it. The 5 iron is much more consistent and I can carry it upwards of 200 from the tee when struck well.

The 2 hybrid is a 230 club from the tee when I hit it well, I think the 4 hybrid would have filled that 210-220 gap better than the 4 iron does currently. Unfortunately there are two holes in particular I'm thinking about where the 2 hybrid is too much from the tee but the 5 iron is too little, and that's where that 4 hybrid would fit in so well.

As far as the challenges go, I wish I could have some "do overs" but I'm not sure I'd change the way I played them at all. My golf game typically has peaks and valleys, unfortunately the peaks didn't necessarily align with the challenge weeks during the competition. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, after going 4hy I'm never going back to an iron. It's just so much easier to hit, almost feels like cheating.

@Nunfa0 I'm exactly the opposite of @edingc, I would have swapped out the my 4 hybrid and replaced it with the 4-iron. Based on how long and how easy it was to hit the 5-iron I think the four would have fit me better for short par 4s, tight driving holes and long par 3s. The challenge really taught me that I'm much better with an iron in my hand than a wood.

I’ll be playing up at Point Sebago Golf Course in Sebago, ME.

I have played there, but it was once 2 years ago. I’m up there for a golf weekend so it just ended up slotting in there nicely for the challenge.

@Nunfa0I know you had asked a page or two ago if we would have done anything different with our set makeup...

For me the only club that hasn’t earned a full time spot is the Hybrid.  Once the challenge is over I’ll get out with my old Titleist 818 Hybrid which has a flatter lie angle and the fade weight in to mitigate the dreaded left shot with a hybrid.  It’s not a slight to the Cobra, I think it’s just too upright for me (my irons are 2 flat, but we cannot adjust or bend the cobra hybrid).  It flys great when I hit it correctly, but there’s just too much left in it for me to be really comfortable.

Here is a look at all of my Tee shots with the Hybrid during the Challenge (13/21 fairways)

19B6FDF0-F7CC-4C87-BE83-17D71C551759.jpeg.2d8d6f2572ec2d0f517341a74e1ddf7d.jpeg

As you see, its a lot of yuck.  A good amount of left and right as I would end up Pushing a few and hanging them out right if it was moving too much on me.

Next is a look at my 5-wood and 5-iron off the tee.  Both have a much tighter dispersion with a few misses left and right with the 5-wood, and just some misses right with the 5-iron (one of the biggest surprises for me during this challenge is how well I hit the 5-iron off the tee).

5-Wood (20/25 fairways):

5 Iron (14/18 fairways):

Outside of that I would like to test some of the shafts that I was originally fit for versus what was available.

Driver:  I was originally fit to the Ventus and I haven’t been sold on the dispersion of the Driver.  I LOVE the Ventus in the 5-wood so I actually ordered a Ventus for the driver and it should be here in a week or two.  If that can help tighten some things up the combo isn’t going anywhere for along time.

Irons:  I was originally fit for the Modus 120x and have the PX LZ 6.5s.  I do still want to go put them head to head in a simulator or at the range if possible, but its going to be hard to justify changing unless I see significantly better numbers... and I’ve been hitting the Forged Tec irons really well for me, so I’m not sure that is going to happen.

Wedges:  I was fit for the Modus Wedge 125 and ended up getting the KBS 610 wedge shafts.  I’m probably going to swap these out since they’re cheap and it will help correct some of the weight progression in the set.  Currently my Forged Tec GW is the heaviest in the set, and the MIM 60* is something like 10 grams lighter.  I think I’ll like a heavier shaft in the wedges, especially if I stick with the LZ 6.5 in the irons.

I'm lucky because I could have my pick of probably 20-plus different courses that I haven't played at all/recently within an hour drive or so.

Tuesday was a major bummer because of the rain; I had been planning to play a course that shifted to $1/hole with cart on Tuesdays after Labor Day with my brother-in-law, and it's one of my favorites that I've played twice before in 2015 and 2019. All bentgrass, nice mix of terrain, holes with trees, open holes, water and downhill par 3s. But it wasn't in the cards for this challenge (or probably this golf season).

Tomorrow's round is scheduled for The Mines in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It's another Mike DeVries-designed course (same designer as Diamond Springs where I played a few weeks ago). The course is located on top of old gypsum mines, and on top of that, basically a big sand dune. I've never played there before. They send out a free birthday round once per year so I'm only on the hook for a cart fee tomorrow. It's been a "must play" course for me for quite some time.

There are a lot of elevation changes and some cool features I'm looking forward to, including a shared fairway between No. 5 and No. 9. The routing is a bit interesting with back-to-back par 3s on the front nine. It is a par 70, and I'm planning on playing from the blue tees unless I change my mind when I get there (unlikely given the length of some of the par 4s on the back).

I did choose this course partially because the Caddie preview seems to favor my driver on a lot of the holes. I'd much rather be hitting driver than irons for this challenge, and I think this course will be conducive to that strategy. I'm the underdog heading into this challenge anyway, so what do I have to lose by bombing it out there besides golf balls?!?

Weather looks to be good tomorrow and Friday. I'm still not a 100 percent go for Friday, I have a tee time scheduled at another course I've never played but am pending approval on vacation time.

Just checked out their site... looks like it will have some really picturesque holes!  Good luck out there tomorrow... everyone loves a good underdog story!

That looks amazing and sounds just as cool. Something about playing on some old mines just has an awsome ring to it.

I've only heard good things about it, best of luck and looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
