Unfortunately, I could not compete the challenge this week.

I had a very limited window of time to play the round this weekend. I was able to get out this evening for a twilight round at 5pm. It seemed the course was pretty empty, and I flew through the first 11 holes, not trailing anyone.

Arriving on the 12th hole, I found a group on the tee box, and a group on the next 3 holes.

Seeing that I wouldn’t be able to finish the round in time for some family duties, I packed in for the day.

I was playing decently well, and had only one miscalculation where I was left with my 60* wedge for a tee shot on a par 5 that required me to carry a small pond 110yds. I just took my penalty and played from the drop zone on the other side.

As a relative unknown, this week could’ve gone either way. Week 6 - Closest to the Pin 

Competitors: As we begin the home stretch, it’s time for our guys to get precise. By now, they should be very comfortable with the full set and it’s time to take the training wheels off. This week, our competitors will be firing at flagsticks trying to get closest to the pin. For this week’s entry, we want our competitors taking a picture of a tape measure to verify the exact distance of their closest shot. Anyone got the guts to bring out a school ruler?

Special Rule: Of course you can play a Par 3 course if you choose, but in addition, you may count approach shots from beyond 125y on Par 4s and 5s. 
 

Fans: Group Halloween Costume. A fan favorite for these challenges, let’s see your best impression of a Cobra staffer. This can be done by either an actual costume or photo editing work. Score 81, Slope 133, rating 71.9 on the silver tees (6694 yards). 

Had a great time playing with @Lacassem, @GolfSpy Stroker, and @GolfSpy Barbajo.  

 

I have to say this Challenge was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, especially since I’ve only played this course once before, many moons ago.  The first time through the bag went very well.  To the point where I had to putt with two of my MIM Black wedges.  My plan going in was to reserve my 52* 56* and 60* wedges for one use through a cycle.  so since I did not need them on the first two holes I needed to use one on each of the next three so restart my bag on time.  The second time through the bag got thrown off immediately, but it ended up working out fine because there we some holes that the tee was moved and I was able to adjust.  Putting saved me on several holes but I generally played well.  I did use my putter from 10-15 yards of the green two or three times and was getting comfortable with that towards the end of the round.  

Red Tail is a real treat, at one point it was rated in the top 50 public courses in the USA.  The holes are challenging and varied and the greens have subtle breaks and tiers to work around.  I wasn’t initially sure I was going to give the challenge a second go, but I got all fired up when I saw @daviddvm post a low number.  Unfortunately I think I still missed his excellent round by 3 or 4 strokes but I did improve from my first go around.  

Congratulations to all who tried this challenge! I was more focused through out the round and will hope to carry that forward in future rounds.

No more aiming at the center of the green this week! It’s time to start firing at pins! It’s a shame this challenge didn’t start yesterday, as I hit a nice cut 8 iron from 150 to a foot. (Yes, I made the putt)

I cant find my PornStach photo and I no longer have orange golf clothes.
