Nippon Modus 115 Wedge

Recommended Posts

I’ve put a few weeks into the Modus 115 wedge shaft and I have to be honest, I prefer the non-wedge version. I’ve been trying to rack my brain and conceptually describe why but I’m having difficulty. Wedge specific shafts never wet my whistle (Jesus, how old am I? 🤣) and for some reason I figured I’d give it a shot this time.

Anybody else have thoughts on these?

What kind of shots are you hitting with them? If my understanding is correct, wedge shafts are designed more for non-full swings and more for the in between shots.

I love mine and feel like they complement the 105s very nicely. S300s that are typically used as the stock shaft for many OEMs just feel too harsh and heavy for me

52 is from 110 in. 58 is a need to get it up quick Club. I’d give the best review from the 52 and say collectively for all yardages within 110, it feels significantly different than the iron line. Performance wise, it’s fine but it’s a significant  difference in feel.

That’s the thing with wedges. It’s feel feel feel.

I should have read further when selecting these. The wedge line was engineered specifically to be firmer in the hands. That right there tells me all I need when comparing them to the modus line.

Don't want to hijack this post, but I'm looking forward to trying the 105s during my Cobra fitting. Cobra offers the 115 wedge also.

So you're finding that to be true? Good to know as well. My 54 wedge has a significantly firmer shaft in the hands than my irons, and while I'm used to it on full swings, there's not a whole lot of feel around the greens. For me, ideally, I think I'd want a similar feel to my irons in any full swing club and then a little softer in anything that's primarily going to be touch/feel shots.

I have the same shaft setup as yungkory for similar reasons. 105 in the irons and 115 for the wedges and I like it. S300 was too stiff, so I went with R300, but they also were too wobbly for full swings. I think the Nippon 115 fit nicely in between.

I second that. For me S300 felt significantly heavier compared to Modus 105 iron shafts, but Modus 115's feel quite nice.

That’s the takeaway. I can’t entirely quantify feel but I can say anyone who switched to Modus shafts for their irons while previously playing a DG or a KBS Tour would easily notice the difference in feel. That stood out to me like a sore thumb and smacked me straight in the head. I am still fascinated by not only the feel but the way the ball flights and travels towards the target.

For me and what I’m looking for, the next shaft in my wedges will be the matching 120 rather than the 115.

And one more thing...I would still give them a try in your fitting. What works for one doesn’t always work for all. Those MIM wedges are 😍

Huh? Dude, there's literally no such thing as a Modus 115 iron shaft

That's not a jab.

There's Modus 105, Modus 120, Modus 125 and Modus 130 iron shafts

and there's Modus 105, 115 and 125 wedge shafts.

Telling you something isn’t true isn’t a jab and not everyone knows what you are referring to because I was puzzled when i saw your reference to a modus 115 iron shaft.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but curious about the modus wedge shafts. It sounds like people are pairing the 115 wedge shaft with the 105 stiff iron shafts instead of using the 105 wedge shaft. Is that right? Anyone try the 105 wedge shaft? I'm assuming that's what Nippon intended the pairing to be, but maybe that's not correct. Thanks!

Typically you go a bit heavier in the wedges.

The 105 Stiff iron shafts weigh 106.5g

The 105 Wedge shaft weighs 111g

If you wanted to have you wedge shafts weight closer to your irons then there is no problem sticking with the 105s.

Heck you could go 105 wedge in the PW and GW and 115 in the SW and LW.  There really isn't a right or wrong here.

My irons shafts are around 112g and I got fit into Modus 125 Wedge shafts for GW, SW, LW
