    • To be outside
    • Because I can think of nothing better than to spend hours practicing hitting a ball with endless costs for equipment only to find my ball during play and hit it again repeatedly for hours at a time as often as I can

Why do you golf?

Too many reasons to list, but I'll start with:
Satisfies my competitive nature
Combines social (friendships) and outdoors
A better alternative to sitting in a recliner watching tv all day

I remember back when I was young and the first time I actually made a reasonable swing and connected (11 yrs old). The feeling of the ball off the iron, the piercing flight and how close I got to my target/pin. Can't put that feeling into words but I remember that I said to myself I love this and I want to be good at this. Been chasing that dream for 40+ years.

And yes I do it for the obvious as indicated in the poll  (competitive spirit, develop a skill, exercise, and outside) but the real reason started from what I stated above.

After college sports my body was a little beat up so golf was much easier on me. I had some friends take me out with them a couple of years ago and even though I sucked I was hooked after 1 round. I love how challenging it can be and having something that I have to work hard to be better at. Of course being out with friends and having a few beers is a good time too.

"See, my doctor told me to get out and carry golf clubs a couple times a week."  🤣

When I was 45 I was still playing softball on two teams - fast and slow pitch, and I was also playing in a volleyball league.  Body couldn't recover before the next game.  Racing cars and boating were too expensive.  I needed something else to do.  I didn't have enough frustration in my life.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

After a huge injury and almost losing my leg the doc and physio thought golf would be a great way to rehab my leg. Turns out golf is HARD!!! Learning how to play this game has been frustrating and very rewarding. I have played sports my whole life and been fairly good at most of them without much practice. Golf is not like that, I'm obsessed with getting better. I love how hard this game is and I love practicing to get better. Seldom do sports give you the satisfaction of hitting a green under reg on a par 5 or dropping a ball within a putt on a par 3. And the feeling of draining a 40+ foot putt.... whooooooooo frigging love this sport.
