Popular Post fozcycle
Was told this week that all the volunteers (4 of us) have been laid off. Seems that someone sent a letter to the labor board that Pebble Creek was paying volunteers. Or rather we were being paid but not on the payroll and no payroll taxes. My pay was free cart plan for 32 hours/month. Seems that someone was a waitress that was fired a couple weeks ago and she is seeking revenge. Well, that b$&ch cost me $160/month because I now have to pay for it....#%+*$&@! I was told that we may get to return to service in the Fall when the snowbirds return. According to the FLSA, "employees may not volunteer services to for-profit private sector employers" https://webapps.dol.gov/elaws/whd/flsa/docs/volunteers.asp If you are getting paid, you are an employee. Also, I don't know what the labor laws in FL are like, but in OR, we had to have a special provision written into the labor laws to allow unpaid volunteer starters and marshals to be compensated with golf or car fees. Might be worth looking into.. This sucks for @fozcycle, but it sounds like they WERE being compensated outside of legal means. I did a quick search and found this: https://www.jacksonville.com/article/20120302/SPORTS/801256949 Apparently it is (or was in 2012) specifically illegal to compensate "volunteers" with free golf at a for-profit facility. Free use of carts seems to me to be pretty much the same thing. And as an employer, I can see it being an issue, particularly for insurance and liability reasons. cksurfdude, MattF, russtopherb and 2 others 5 Quote Irons Titleist T200, AMT Red stiff Rogue SubZero, GD YS-Six X T22 54 and 58 wedges 7-wood 5-wood B60 G5i putter Right handed Reston, Virginia

fozcycle
Actually, I was told today that a person wanted to "volunteer" at Crescent Oaks in Tarpon Springs, one of our sister courses. He was denied and then called the Labor Board. So it wasn't a revengeful fired employee, it was a wannabe volunteer.
