Rain drowned my Bushnell Rangefinder???

Recommended Posts

Played in the rain Sunday and my Bushnell TourX rangefinder shut down on me.  Aaargh...  Took the battery out, and put it in a bag of rice like I do with a wet iPhone.  Took it out this morning and it appeared to be working.  Got to the course at noon and it was DOA.   Aaargh...  Why should a little rain drown my rangefinder?

But I'm in the midst of a three day golf road trip and can't be without.  Yes, I'm dependent.

So it was off to GolfGalaxy to get a replacement.  Grabbed the PrecisionPro NX7 Pro.  Just bought some other clubs and couldn't see dropping $500 for a rangefinder right now.  So I'll put this into play tomorrow.  Anxious to see how it goes.  A rangefinder should be a rangefinder - they should all do the same thing.  I remember the MGS article a year or so ago, so thought it would be worth the try.

The Bushnell always worked great.  Appreciated the jolt on lock.  Had the slope.  So this should essentially be the exact same thing at half the price.  I'll report back on how it goes.  Have 36 tomorrow and 36 the next day - assuming I can make it through the Iowa heat...  One downside - can't figure out where to write my phone number so when I inevitably drop it, the group behind knows who it belongs too...

Verdict is in... two thumbs up for the Precision Pro NX7.  Played 36 today, and 34 of them were spot on perfect.  The first two holes I kept trying to use it like I did my Bushnell - HOLDING the target acquisition button.   Thats a big no-no.  Just click the button once, it'll find the target.  And boy does it.  The salesman at Golf Galaxy warned me it was a bit slower to acquire the target - but he was wrong.  Something tells me he was pushing and holding, rather than a one click.  I found this to be very fast.

What I really liked - I found the optics to be brighter than my drowned Bushnell.  Wasn't expecting that.

The device is super lightweight.  I don't know if that is good or bad.  The Bushnell has some heft - but this is lighter, and it is also smaller....

For half the price as the Bushnell I am very very happy with my purchase.  Heck, I'm happy with it period - just amazed at the cost difference.  We'll see how it handles long term.  But right now I'm happy with it.

I am shocked your bushnell drowned in the rain. I have an old 1m I have had for 4-5 years and played tons of rain rounds and never had any issues. I guess I was under the impression all bushnell range finders were waterproof.

I'd get in touch with bushnell as well as I think that model is supposed to be rainproof based on its description.

My Bushnell rangefinder finally died after 6yrs. Just didn't want to pay $200 to $300.  Went on Amazon and found BobLov 650YDS golf range - no slope - but does vibrate. $89. Very impressed, works great. Have used now for over 6 months, charge lasts long.

Six rounds in (yes, some 36 hole days this week) and I couldn’t be happier. It’s fast - once you know the trick of tapping the trigger as you get ready and don’t hold the button), the optics are very bright, AND because I rode twice this week (the 36 hole days) it actually fits well inside the cup holder of the cart. That’s a small thing I know, but my busnell often didn’t fit - which raises the question of where do I store it. I know a lot of guys have those wraps w the magnets that hold it to the vertical rails of the cart - but I’d be nervous about that.  Anyway, pleasant surprise.  I was skeptical and worried about quality, but I’d recommend this to friends.  Haven’t found a downside.

Bushnell fell in a pond. Fished it out but not working. Put it in rice in warm cupboard. Checked it every day but nothing working and then after 13 days it's working perfectly again. Glad I was patient

Nice!  Glad it started working again.

Wont hurt to try if you have a box fan or something similar open the battery compartment up position it by the fan fan for a day or 2 you have nothing to lose. I would also try a different battery, borrow a buddies for a minute if you dont have one just in case it was the battery that somehow got shorted. And if all else fails this stuff is worth a try as a last ditch effort and handy to keep around the house.      WD-40 SPECIALIST® CONTACT CLEANER
