Official 2020 MGS Hard Rock Challenge

Ok, I'm gonna give it a go today.  Got 3 Pinnacle Gold LS and. Nitro backup.

Wasn't pretty.  Shot a 49 on the front with the Pinnacles.  I couldn't putt to save my life with them.  I even 4 putted from like 30' on one hole.

The good news is, I switched to my Srixon Z Star XV when I went to the back.  It was getting dark so I only got in 10, 16, 17, and 18, but I went par, par, bogey (3 putt from 60'), and birdie to be even for 4 holes on the back.  So, I know all isn't lost.

I'm sure the Google Maps photo was taken when the grass was dormant.  It's in very good shape for 7-8 months/year and, even when the grass is dormant, it's playable most of the other months.

Read their thread yesterday and thought I'd give it a go. Played 9 today.  I'm not a long hitter. Best drive was 233. But had a blast.  Used a Callaway Warbird. Shot a 39 at Gladwin Heights Golf Course.  Slope is 110 and rating is 68.7. My handicap is pretty much an 8.

I finally got a round in! I shot a 46 (+10)at Pine Lake in Anderson SC. Ball flight was extremely low. I usually clear the trees easily on the tee shot on number 7 but had trouble getting the ball a third of the way up the trees this round. Long drive for the day was 268 on number 9!

Absolutely great drive, followed by a dreadful second shot, the story of my game.

Seriously great drive, I wonder how you all would feel if I intentionally aimed my drive to the street next to the course and let it go for a mile.

I played 27 holes today at Madison Meadows (Ennis, MT).  It was overcast, cooler, and a bit breezy - blustery making some holes a real challenge to get yardage right.  My HRC round was during the second nine, using a Nike MOJO.  I have never played this ball before and, after that round, never will again!  I'm going on record stating that the Nike MOJO is the biggest POS stone ever produced .  Seriously, they make a Pinnacle Gold feel good .  It is by far the worst feeling ball I've ever played... not long, not straight, and BUTT UGLY... clearly a ball only its designer could love.

Here it is ready for launch... hell even the camera had a hard time focusing on it .

This drive traveled 239 yards into the right rough - on what was a decent strike.  Hacked off, I teed up a ProV1 and it went 262 straight down Happy Path Highway. I hated hitting it so much that by hole 4 I was seriously trying to lose it... and couldn't.  Hole #9 is adjacent to the driving range... and, following the last putt, I added it to the range ball collection.  Shot a 43.

I did not strike the ball as well as my first round but scored well.  No KP's or LD's that better round #1. I'm starting to think these low end, often disparaged and made fun of balls, are my best fit ... simply can't argue the results .  

Using the formula in our IM thread, I calculate round 1 at net 35.43 and this round at 35.63... but maybe I have the slope portion goofed? 

I'm hoping to get at least 2 more rounds in before the contest concludes... maybe we need to extend the deadline as I haven't seen to many entries yet.

Pinnacle rush?  What tees did you play?

UPDATE:  HRC 2020 WILL RUN THROUGH AUGUST 31

-Since 2020 has been a year to remember thus far, the HRC chiseling committee has decided to extend the competition for one additional month. Happy swinging.

On the one hand, I want to bump my score up the leaderboard and maybe even try for a closest to the pin entry (there's no way I'm getting long drive LOL). 

On the other hand, I really do NOT want to play another entire round hitting those balls! My scores are bad enough as it is, hitting those things just makes it worse

So, I lost the Caliber on the 2nd hole of my round. So much for Rifle Spin for straightness. If you want my opinion it's not a awful ball for feel, but sound wise it's wack as hell. The ping on the face of all clubs is weird, I only wish I got more time with it to get you guys some sound.

Try a Velocity.  They are an approved rock but definitely a good performing ball... a couple of my best scores of the year while using them. Also, find one or two holes on a course that stacks the LD odds in your favor.  For me it's #4 and #7 at Madison Meadows.  Both usually have a tailwind and, in the case of #7, a downhill canyon, if you can clear the corner w/o going OB, the payout is large.  

Yesterday both nines I played without HR's were 280+.  I pulled the Mojo left and it barely rolled to 240 yards.

Aimpoint requiring a 230+ carry to clear the point and not get caught up in the bunchgrass OB.

Sorry, it would have been Lake Hefner North Course, OKC.  I think it's 71.1/123, but I'll confirm.

For the record, that drive was alright, but this on on Sunday was off the charts.  To make it better, I hit the green in two and sank the eagle putt!  Too bad this wasn't part of the HRC.

The Rock of choice was the Velocity again. I honestly do not mind them, other than the fact they have 0 spin around the green (which makes me think they should be taken off the list for next year but thatll be a next year problem haha). I started off on straight fire with this behemoth of a drive out the gate!
Followed it up a 7 holes later with another monster! Cut that corner a little bit haha.
Was a few short missed putts away from some birdies and a record best opening 9! Finished with a 38, my handicap currently sits at 8.9. I played from the blue tees and the rating and slope is 71.2/128.

I’ve got to play in this again this week. The week I played this was my best week in over 5 years. Since then I stunk and have only been to the range this week but not consistently striping the ball.

I’m working on that this weekend, range only.

I also made some equipment tweaks going for more consistency.

We'll need a ruling from @JohnSmalls on the ball, but to me it sounds like a qualifier. The "Maximum Distance" moniker sounds like a rock to me. Great round, and if the ball is qualified, it'll count. The contest is extended until the end of August, so if @chisag decides to change his mind he can jump in on it.

Well, a combo of things kept me off the course for July, so I wasn't able to log any rounds, however, I have next week off from work and those Top Flites won't go completely to waste.  @sirchunksalot inspired me with his opening 2 iron shot that kicked off everything, so I'm going to make a video of what would've been my kick off.  However, bear with me and forgive the home grown swing.  I won't wind up on Hack Patrol on Instagram, but it won't be pretty either.
