FrogginBullfish
There's a video that's been going around showing Tony Finau hitting 206 mph ball speed with the driver. Here's a link: [/url] He also shot a 59. FrogginBullfish
Lol I don't think he has to worry much right now. Tony doesn't seem keen on breaking out that swing on tour, at least not yet. Says he doesn't have the mechanics to keep it consistent. Whether he works on that, I don't know, but he can smash it better than anyone if he really wanted to go that route. Hell, we've all seen the long-drive guys. But they can't drives inside of a football field, and Bryson is hitting what, 65% fairways on the PGA tour with that speed? Swinging really hard and being accurate takes a tremendous amount of skill, whether people like it or not. Everyone seems to think that all of a sudden everybody will just start swinging hard and driving it like Bryson. I don't know how many golfers have the skill for that. FrogginBullfish
61% on the season but I get your point. Part of the reason Bryson is playing such stiff shafts is because his accuracy is better. He can hit it farther with a softer shaft but he wasn't consistent enough with it. TR1PTIK
Tony Finau was posting on Instagram a while back during a trip to Arizona(?) where he was trying to break the 200 MPH barrier and did it then. He's been able to do it for a while without any additional training, but like was mentioned before it's just not a swing that will hold up on the course. Lots of these guys on tour have more in the tank than what is displayed every week - I'm fairly certain I recall a George Gankas interview or something where he said Padraig Harrington could get the club moving around 130 MPH. Fascinating stuff, but not all too surprising. It goes to show that what Bryson is doing is truly remarkable. fixyurdivot
With his rather short backswing, it's hard to imagine how he can produce those numbers. So will we ever see the 250 mph barrier broken with existing equipment designs/limits? With restrictions on maximum ball velocity, CoR, and drive shaft length, the only way that happens is with increased swing speeds on the "sweet spot". So just how fast do you think we bipeds can swing? Bryson would love these guys Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)

aerospace_ray
Saw him today on Golf Channel playing charity event at Jack's Memorial Tournament. He was paired with John Rahm. They beat Poulter/GMAC. Dude was putting on a show with the driver. I thought I heard him say he was six under by himself. Think their team was 8 or 9 under until last hole. They might have won every hole except the 9th/last hole. Pretty impressive off the tee to say the least. Finau has medium/short backswing while Rahm has very short backswing but both are extremely quick - fast in transition. Fun to watch.
