COLLIN MORIKAWA WINS SECOND PGA TOUR TITLE WITH VICTORY AT WORKDAY CHARITY OPEN

Team TaylorMade's Collin Morikawa collects his 2nd PGA TOUR inside 12 months using SIM driver, SIM Max Rescue and TP5 ball, following a playoff.

Carlsbad, Calif. (July 12, 2020) - A little over twelve months ago, Collin Morikawa turned professional and joined Team TaylorMade. Now, not even 24 years old, he has two PGA TOUR titles to his name. Morikawa, 23, shot rounds of 65-66-72-66 to win in a playoff after the 3rd extra hole to move to world no.13.

Morikawa relied on his stellar iron play as well as his SIM Max Rescue 19° this week to reduce the par 5 5th hole to a eagle-birdie-birdie-eagle across all 4 rounds. Collin has two SIM Max Rescues that he interchanges depending on the course and approach shots he faces. He has a 19° that goes high, landing softly at 245 yards and another 19° that has a flatter trajectory landing at 245 yards with roll.

  • In the final round, Collin ranked #1 in SG: Approach the Green with +5.873 strokes gained vs. the field
  • For all 4 rounds: SG: Tee to Green +13.530, SG: Approach the Green +9.752
  • Morikawa jumps to world 13 in the OWGR rankings with his victory today (previously no. 29)

Ping G410 - turned down to11.25 degrees, neutral setting - Fujikura Motore X R flex

Ping G410 5-9 wood

Wilson D7 forged 6-GW -  Mamiya recoil 460 R flex

SCOR 52,60

EVNRoll ER 5

Titleist Pro VIx optic yellow with revkev stamped on them

Currently testing Edison wedges to replace SCORS that are wearing out. Also auditions for the 14th spot in the bag.  Current possibilities are a Ping 26 degree hybrid - duplicates the 9 wood or 5 iron but would be used almost exclusively for chipping or Tour Exotics 3 wood simply because you can carry 14 clubs and I might occasionally hit it in certain unusual wind conditions once every four or five rounds.

Depending on what course here in the area I play, I have a rock club.  I don't think that's the case though.  😁

He had two SIM Max 19 degrees in the bag.  It was explained in the article.   Two different settings for two different Carrie and ball flights.

I’m a fan of the rookie class form last with him, hovland and Wolff. While I think they will all not h multiple wins on tour and have been a fan of wolfs for while I think Colin ends up with the better career. Two playoffs since the return and of it wasn’t for the flat stick he would have another win.

I read that but must have gotten confused its pretty easy. It said he interchanges them, I assumed he interchanges them between rounds.

Next question.

How can you use a 19° twice and achieve a high ball and a low ball?

He has different shafts in them. The high flight one has an 85g shaft while the low flight has the 100g shaft.

Very interesting, I learned something new today. I didn't think shaft weight would effect ball flight that much.

Everything effects ball flight including the amount of sleep that you had last night. :)

Heavier weight shafts can affect transition and tempo. I’ve been fit to some shafts in the 67-75g range to help me slow my aggressive transition and improve sequencing. The added weight and design of the shaft will impact the balls flight.

he uses the 85g tensei blue and the 100g tensei White tx. Weight and EI profiles are different that allows him to achieve his desired results
