I think he is just having fun right here. Love that flop shot. Not wild about the putt but he really didn't hit hard enough/play it high enough. Never know with him and its always entertaining.

He said after the round he chose to putt because of the pitch of the fairway. He didn't think he could get it closer than 15ft with a wedge but he thought he could get it close with a putter with the contours of the fairway. Just didn't hit it hard enough.

Reasonable explanation but I wonder if he'd had been better off doing a fairway wood putt from there.

I didn't think about that. The FW wood putt might have produced the roll that would have held the line he chose a little better.

A grand total of 9 players under par after 72 holes.  That's more like it 👍.  Hats off to Jack, the grounds crew, and Mother Nature.

Rahm was assessed a late two-stroke penalty on 16 to bring his score for the week to -9. Obviously still won but by 3 instead of 5.

Now just the second Spaniard to reach World #1. Seve was the other. Rahm's the first to reach that pinnacle with a win at The Memorial and continues a trend of recent winners taking #1 overall by winning by reasonably big margins, following in the footsteps of Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Jason Day.

I really like Jon and couldn’t be happier for him as the new World #1 ... and I really enjoyed his answer after his round on Saturday on how much being World #1 would mean to him. 👌🏼 He seems to have a singleminded focus at the moment and can only wish him good health.

Now, lets see some absolute dominance! Honestly, Tiger spoiled us at the World #1 for so long with his level and standard of play ... and here’s to hoping Jon can reach Tiger’s level. (Even if it’s just 70% of it)

Had the opportunity to see him at TPC at Sawgrass and my goodness can he hit the golf ball.

And Finau is killing me! 🙇🏻‍♂️ Love the kid, his game, and his mental approach ... but man, his approach can sometimes appear as too lackadaisical. Make us feel like you want it Tony! 💪🏼

Very entertaining tournament to watch.  Really feel for Finau leading through 36 and then falling off that much.  Amazes me how both he and Rahm generate such huge power with such a short backswing.

As for Bryson, another tournament, another polarizing appearance.  I was watching Friday when he demanded a second opinion for a ruling on whether or not he could hop a fence and play a ball that was clearly OB. When he didn't get the answer he wanted, he got all huffy and turned his back on the rules official and stormed off.

I don't expect him to like the answer, but again, how you treat other people says a lot about who you are and more and more he's coming off as an entitled diva. Maybe I'm alone in that perspective, but I'm liking this dude less and less each week...

The new “naked eye” standard got trounced with the Rahm ruling - wow.

IMO they assessed that penalty because it didn’t matter and they wanted to send a message that we take our rules seriously.

There’s no way that a person could have see that.

No need for the NFL the PGA is going to take care of the bad officiating.

I thought the Tour officials got the call exactly right.  The ball definitely moved a bit to the left, not by a lot, but by enough that it would be visible to the naked eye.  The Tour said 3 years ago, at the same time they said there would be no more video call-ins, that they would have officials watching the video feed.  The official saw the ball move.

I see it moving by about the height of the logo.  I think it probably should have been visible, even if it wasn't glaringly obvious.  Its a judgement call, and can be argued from both sides as far as I'm concerned, I'm just happy that it didn't have the potential to decide the results of the tournament.

Hey, 5 years from now people are not going to remember who won this week, but we will remmber DeChambeau's 10!!

Funny thing is how true that is. I don't remember who won Bay Hill the year that Daly had the blowup hole, but I certainly remember his ... 12? 13? LOL. OK, maybe I don't remember it that well, but you sure do remember the blowup holes. And if it wasn't for Tiger winning the 2000 US Open the way he did, people would probably remember Daly's 14 better. Or now that I've typed all that out, I may just be remembering all of Daly's blowup holes. LOL.

Him and Rickie both.

I really like Fowler and I think he is a high calibre golfer. Just not exactly a high calibre golfer because of his mentality. I remember watching some interview where JT talked about how he thought he went low for a few rounds in a non tournament situation and Rickie had no problem going even lower. And sometimes, you can totally see that flash of brilliance. But just never enough to string together a great tournament. Such a mental game, and that is probably where Rickie falters. Would love to see that guy have better finishes.

Exactly ... and Rickie even mentioned it during a post-round interview with Amanda after Saturday’s round last week at the Workday Charity Open. Said he felt the pressure was off after making the cut, and just felt like he could out there with a different mindset and go low. And sure enough, he did.

And I honestly don’t think people truly understand just how different the tournament pressure is when it’s comes to golf. Many moons ago, I worked in the golf industry for many years and wanted to get into the PGA of America’s PGM program (Professional Golf Management) and had to take their Player Ability Test (PAT).

Got down, at the time, to a single digit handicap and felt like I could handle their 36 hole testing easily ... yeah, blew that up on the first 18 with a round in the low 90s ... and then shot significantly better on the second 18 once I knew I wasn’t going to pass.

Rickie still has time ... Phil didn’t win his first major until he was 34 yrs young. Albeit, it was a much different media environment then as it is now, with the pressure and the expectations much higher.

I agree with that last part - I wonder what they would have done had it mattered - and yes a judgment call. I have no doubt that Rahm would have called it on himself had he noticed it.

My feeling is that there should be NO video zooming in closer than what could be seen by the naked eye by the player, playing partner, or official.  Zoom in to look at the lie, but the camera needs to back off during play.  Given the rough conditions last week, any number of players could (and probably did) move the ball similarly without notice.  The only difference was the player was the leader.  Players on the bottom of the first page leaderboard and lower would never have a zoom in shot like that... well, except if Tiger was making the shot!!  Is it fair, no.  Is it equitable, no. Did the penalty matter, not this time.  But who's to say that a similar incident didn't happen that wasn't filmed that cost a player $100+K for the difference between 3rd and 4th place.

The camera is the problem.  Penalties are being assessed and will continue to be assessed that weren't assessed 25 years ago.  The tour and USGA can mandate to networks that cameras will not zoom in closer than 6 feet... a number I picked since that is a number representing a distance that a player would likely see a movement that constitutes a "penalty".

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

This would be helpful in that it might eliminate judgment as to what the naked eye actually is.
