pretzelbag
If any LX5 tester can compare it to the Garmin S62, I’d appreciate it, specifically as to the screen. The LX5 according to the specs has a much higher resolution (454 x 454 pixels vs. 260 x 260) on a screen that is about the same size (Skygolf says theirs is 2mm larger, but the bezel could cover some of that). So I would expect the LX5 to look a lot better assuming no differences in the brightness or glare. revkev
When I moved to a laser after using a watch & apps, I was shocked at how much the slope changed some distances on courses I was used to playing. I didn't think there was much of an elevation change either, then once I got the laser I started dropping balls a lot closer to the middle of the green. Don't ask me how well I putt. It doesn’t take much elevation change to make a difference. I play on a course that’s a mile from the Gulf but there’s a little ridge here, Tom Fazio moves some dirt there and suddenly you have shots that are impacted by half a club - just tricky enough to miss a green and dump it in a trap or leave a putt in that dreaded zone.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy russtopherb, mikeanthony, JAGolfore and 2 others 5 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Popular Post palvord
It's here! It's finally here! (pictures to follow) Just wanted to jot down some initial impressions so I don't forget my thoughts and feelings from the last hour of unboxing/setting up. First, it looks like it should weigh more than it does. The face seems quite large at first glance, but putting it on my wrist, it doesn't look big or even look like a typical golf watch. (that last part was according to my fashion designer, aka, my wife) I spent the better part of an hour working on downloading courses that I frequently play and making sure my watch was registered with SkyCaddie, as well as getting my SkyCaddie 360 membership page setup. That community page looks like it will hold value, but this is mainly focused on the watch. I played around in the demo for the Golf, and am really digging the ease with which you can either look at the FCB numbers, or choose to see the hole layout. Manipulating the cursor to varying targets was rather easy sitting at my desk, and not under pressure to get my shot off. I'll be interested to see how that functions on the course. The responsiveness of the touch on the screen appears to be quick and accurate at first testing. Playing around with the heart rate monitor was fun, and it was quite quick at registering my heart beat. Further testing/comparison to come. My minor "complaint" about the unboxing and setup was that I had to manually set the time. That seemed like an odd step considering it is a watch that links into satellites for course information, and also didn't change time when I connected to my laptop via USB to download the courses. Also, to set the time, I had to figure out how to convert GMT to EST. I'm sure many people know what GMT means, but I was lost. Thank you, Google. Oh, and for those wondering about random button pushes with a swing, since I am left handed, I won't have that as a worry. The two buttons are on the right hand side of the watch, which moves them out of any danger of being pressed at initial glance. My first round with the watch is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon on a course that I have only played once. I will be looking to see how easy the features are to use without doing any digging into the literature or "how-to" videos. I also will be comparing the information I receive to my Arccos system and if it will be changing my pre-shot routine. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask! TCUfrog
After not so patiently stalking my UPS driver do circles around my apartment complex all day with my LX5 in the back of his truck, I had to leave for my Thursday afternoon round before it was delivered (The round was cut short to Thunderstorms anyway). I arrived at home to a small package and quickly opened it up excited to check out my new gadget I can add to the arsenal. The SkyCaddie Tees were a nice touch to throw in the box. My first impression after opening it up was 'Holy Crap, this thing is huge'. I then put it on my wrist and guess what? It is indeed Huge. Size comparison next to my 40mm apple watch below for those wondering. While I was pretty disappointed with how large it was, it is very light and does not feel much different while wearing compared to my apple watch. Alas though my wardrobe artist (my wife) walked in shortly after I put on the watch and said "You can't wear that anywhere outside of the golf course." Rain is in the forecast for most of the weekend, but I'll be interested to see if the display size is helpful with interpreting all the data and surveying the course layout once i get out on the course. AGutierrez7
Very excited to get it on the course this weekend! Got to play around with it yesterday (take a look at the course demo, heart rate monitor, etc.) and noticed how easy it was to navigate. I will say it was quite large at first when I took it out of the box, but was able to get used to the size on my wrist. Plus, it was incredibly light which was surprising because it did not appear that it would be. Cannot wait to get my hands on it again after work today! MrBandit
Good Morning, After getting my Watched last night, I was patient enough just to charged the watch so I can play with it this morning. Here are some my initial first impressions of the Watch so far. 1. Presentation of the watch is basic and straight forward 2. Charging of the watch is a little awkward since the charger is a USB with magnetic connection, its not a flat cradle. 3. Login to the Skygolf site using the credentials they provided in the box, you can then change password, update information. 4. On the site, you will notice that you need to download the courses you want on the watch, unlike other GPS Watches that include all of the courses available you have to search and select the option to download to your watch. There is also a limit amount of course you can download, you will get a warning that you have reached the limit. 5. You can download the CaddieSync App for your Windows or MAC PC and sync via the USB cable. But you can also setup Wifi Sync do download and update information. 6. Review some of the Demo Features to get familiar with the watch before taking to the course tomorrow. Default view is FBC (front, back , center), you can change this to Hole Overview You can scroll left or right to get to the green side view, hazards view, and you can also mark you current location, and where on the green or fairway you like to get yardage too. There is also a scoring option, hole by hole, with Fairways hit, GIR and putts. Also a Heart Rate monitor, (you can see how much exited you are on your next shot) Tomorrow I will take to the course for a official test run and test out some of the features. Josh Ross
So far I'm really liking the watch but unfortunately the rain won't stop. I love the light weight and with my bigger arms I don't feel like the watch is all that big. I don't think hitting buttons during my swing will be an issue at all. Some things I'd like to note. 1. This thing is comfortable. I barely even realize I have it on. 2. The heart rate monitor seems to be very accurate. I have to log my heart rate sometimes due to having bradycardia and still trying to learn how it affects me. After walking through the house mine is usually 55-60 and this measured it at 58. 3. The graphics are great and everything is easily seen. I love how detailed the layout and green view is. 4. Unfortunately the course I live on is not mapped by SkyCaddie so it is very generic and is lacking any kind of info other than distances. I'll be able to compare the distances I get to my rangefinder but I'm pretty bummed that I can't get the full benefit at my home course. Greens just show up as circular and there's nothing to look at but a straight line of fairway for each hole. If you look just above and to the right of the watch below, you can barely see two greenside bunkers on the 6th green in my backyard but they aren't there on my watch. Thankfully there are plenty of fully mapped courses within an hour of me so I'll be able to give this watch a full test, just as soon as all this rain stops! The bunkers mentioned above are mini swimming pools that the deer love to splash in of the evenings. palvord, MrBandit, mikeanthony and 3 others 6 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: LINK.1 34" Ball: Tour (Thanks MGS for allowing me to test these!) palvord
I played my first round today with the LX5, and thoroughly enjoyed my entire round. Eventually, I will compare the data to Arccos, but today was so much fun to just put the cellphone in my bag when I arrived at the course and not pull it back out until it was time to put the clubs in the car. I felt totally present for the round, which may have helped my scoring, but where I truly appreciated not having my phone on my person was that I was able to remain distraction free and hold full conversations with my playing partners the entire round. It was really nice to be disconnected from the outside world on the course. The maiden voyage for the watch was a good test as I had only played the course one other time. It has multiple blind tee shots, most of the par 5's force you to lay up on your second shot, and has many elevation changes. I shot an 84 today, and overall had a positive first experience with the LX5. Some observations from first use: - Finding the course takes longer than expected. My wife was wearing the Garmin S2 and had her FCB yardages on the first tee in about 30 seconds. The LX5 took a good solid 5 minutes to find the course. I found that odd, especially since I was playing a course that I had downloaded the night before. - The watch is very light. It never felt like it interfered with my swing, or swing speed. - The screen is very bright, and the size of the face helps you easily see the course mapping and data provided. - The scoring section was easy to use, and I will be interested to see how the data collection in SkyGolf 360 looks. - The zoomed in green section is very handy to help see how much room you have to work with for certain pins. The FCB numbers are great, but you can do some quick addition or subtraction with the help of the targeted green for even better distance information. - If you are spending a longer time on a hole, or far from the hole (aka playing from another fairway) the watch will vibrate and ask if you have finished your current hole. I bet that happens so they are able ensure you are seeing the yardages for the correct hole. - I didn't miss the "plays-like" distance from Arccos, but having that data over the last year and a half has apparently taught me to better judge for slope and wind. I never felt like I chose the wrong club today. And now for some photos of the various screens that you will all become familiar with seeing from all of us testers: Josh Ross, HardcoreLooper, JAGolfore and 3 others 6 Quote In my Ultralight Stand Bag: Driver: Rogue 10.5° - LH - Project X EvenFlow 60 Stiff Woods: King F9 - LH - 3/4 Wood - Atmos Blue TS 7 Stiff King F9 - LH - 5/6 Wood - Atmos Blue TS 7 Stiff Irons: King F9 - LH - 5-GW - KBS C-Taper Lite Stiff Wedges: King Black - LH - 52° 56° 60° - KBS Hi-Rev 2.0 Stiff Putter: - Impact No. 3 Ball: Maxfli TourX Rangefinder: LX5 Watch
mikeanthony
Finally, for what had felt like an agonizingly long wait, the 10 of us rcvd our SkyCaddie LX5 watches. And as others had mentioned, the initial first impression of the watch once unboxed is that it’s rather large. I know that is the trend as of late, to wear watches in the 50mm+ range with a large face and thickness ... but, however, I will add that the watch is shockingly light for its size. I’m talking barely noticeable on your wrist light. Truthfully, once I unboxed the watch, it was a huge let down for I was hoping this could be an everyday watch ... and after a full round in the books with the watch thus far, I can see it being a workout or running errands watch. But for work or for a dinner date with my wife, no thanks. The initial first impression of the screen size, brightness and responsiveness via swiping/touch is positive. Within the menu, you can change the backlighting to low, medium, high or auto ... if anything, while out on the course, I’d recommend placing the backlight for the watch to the high setting. When you initially tap the watch to pull up distances, it’ll slowly come into view via low, to medium then to high setting when it’s on auto .. whereas simply setting it to high, boom, it’s there and awake. With that said, I had absolutely no issues with the watch throughout the round with respects to glare or being able to read the screen, be it morning sunrise or sun overhead at the noon hour. As for the wearing of the watch during play ... I’ll admit that I surprisingly enjoyed having and utilizing the watch during the course of my round. There is just something to be said about not having to lug around your phone in your hand, unlock the screen, get your distance then shove the phone into your front or back pocket ... it’s liberating. Just the act of not having to grab my phone each time from either the cup holder or from within the cubby, unlock the phone, read my yardage, then place back into cart ... freed up my tempo and everything felt natural. I did compare the SkyCaddie LX5 distances with that of TheGrint from the phone app and they were right in line with each other. The added benefit with the LX5 is the additional detailed information to every trap, hazard, water, distance to clear water, etc ... is all right there for you to scroll through, as opposed to having to drag the crosshairs on TheGrint app. But the big selling point, is the reading of the slopes of the greens. Not sure if I’m overstating this, but to me, it’s a game changer. I shared my cart today with my good friend, Ben who is at a 4.8 handicap and absolutely loved leveraging me and the watch. He’ll be playing in the SC Mid-Amateur in Oct and he feels that just the slope reading of the greens can save you 1 to 1.5 strokes a round. A hole that stood out was a par 3 at a distance of about 135. From the tee box, you can see the green’s false front, but what you couldn’t see was that just behind the flag about 5-6 paces, the green sloped down and away from the pin, leading to a difficult up and down. The LX5 certainly helped in that regard as I opted to go with the PW and trust the distance ... ball landed pin high on the same slope as the flag and was able to hole my only birdie of the day. Here’s a photo of different par 3 ... and the reading from the watch ... apologies for the odd photo ... think I’ll need to adjust the settings on my iPhone. Ended up hitting a 6i with to hard of a fade that kicked left off the hills to the right of the green and rolled down onto the dark green slope of the green ... was barely able to 2 putt for par. My buddy Ben, he went right of the pin and stayed on the up slope level with the pin, just missed his birdie and pared as well ... again, it’s a huge asset to have and really just changes your thought process on those approach shots into the green. I’ll leave it at that for now, but all in all, after an initially negative first impression yesterday evening ... I’m certainly happy with it thus far and looking fwd to getting out again on a weekday afternoon this week. If anyone of you are traveling through Myrtle Beach, the course we played today was Prestwick Golf Club ... it’s a lovely link style course from Pete Dye. And before I forget, it was the first time we played the course, but the watch certainly helped in not making it feel like it was. MrBandit
Played 2 rounds this weekend with the watch. Testing the battery life and it lasted 2 full rounds. Got a low battery warning around the 14th hole but it kept working fine even after I completed the round. Here are a few things I noticed during the rounds. 1. It really does take 10-15mins for the the GPS to find your course. This is way longer than Golf Buddy or Garmin watches in comparison. So I would not wait to get to the first tee to turn on the Golf feature. 2. Front Back and Center yardage was spot on within a yard or so. Double check the yardage with a range finder. 3. Found the ring yardage to be very useful.. As it shows ie. What is to the beginning of a bunker and to the end of the bunker. Didn't had to zoom in. 4. Kept score on the watch and it was pretty straight forward. I didn't like that you had to hit the plus or minus to enter the score, it would jump to 5 and you had to hit the minus to get the 4. I think it should default to hole score and you then adjust accordingly. 5. Not once did the buttons interfere with my swing. The watch is so light that didn't even notice it was on 6. Had to adjust the screen resolution from auto to high. In the light you barely could see the screen. palvord, HardcoreLooper, JAGolfore and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 MAX - 8.5 with Fujikura Speeder NX TCS 50 (secondary shaft HRDZ Black 6.0 Stiff) 3 -Wood: Sub70 949x 3 Wood 15 with Hrdz RDX Black Stiff 5-Wood: Sub70 949x 5 Wood with Hrdz RDX Black stiff 4-Hybrid: Sub70 949x 4 Hybrid with Project X 5.5 Hybrid Stiff Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 - 6-PW , w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff Wedges: Sub70 TAIII w/Nippon Modus 105 Stiff - 50 ,56, 60 Putter: L.A.B Mezz1, 34 in Balls: MaxFli Tour X, TaylorMade Tour Response, TaylorMade TPx GPS: Shot Scope X5 with Tracking TESTED: SUB70 949X 5 Wood TESTED: NIPPO N.S. AGutierrez7
Played my first round with the watch so I thought I'd share a few of my thoughts: 1. Watch is incredibly light, did not feel it at all during any of my swings 2. Really enjoyed using the "dynamic holevue" feature where I could see yardages to bunkers, hazards, and lay up spots 3. Watch took a bit of time to load the course I was playing (I'd say about ~5 min) 4. Scoring feature was really easy to use, but could not quite figure out how to track GIRs (probably need to read more of the user manual) 5. Only negative for me was the watch froze up on me on hole 15, and took me force shutting it down to get back up running again - Thankfully the watch allowed me to resume my round and none of the data was lost 6. Watch battery will easily last 2 rounds (mine was at about 51% after my round today) Hope everyone else who is testing is enjoying testing the watch and all its features. mikeanthony, Josh Ross, JAGolfore and 3 others 6 Quote Most Recent Testing: 949x PRO Hybrid In my 2019 X-Cart Bag : M3 10.5* (TENSEI Blue 6R) GS53 3W 14* (Review) CLK 2017 4H 22* M6 Irons 4-PW (KBS MAX 85g Stiff Steel Shafts, Std Length & Lie) AW, SW: Forged Satin 48*, 54* LW: SM6 60* Infinite Putter Michigan Ave 34" e6 Current Tech: NX7 Rangefinder LX5 GPS Smartwatch (Review)

Josh Ross
So playing with this on my home course isn't the best experience since it's "Member Mapped" and not mapped by SkyCaddie. Yardages were sometimes off by 10-15 yards and not having any course specific info is almost meaningless. This isn't a knock on the LX5 at all, it can't tell me what it doesn't know. A few of the minor things I'm noticing I'm gonna hold off on until I test it on a course that has all of the good data. One thing that came to mind for me though is that while we're all mentioning that the buttons aren't interfering or getting pressed during our swing, it really wouldn't matter if they were. First, the buttons are designed in a way that I think most will never have a problem hitting them. Second, if you did hit them it wouldn't matter because both require a long press to do anything other than just waking the screen. I am wearing this as an everyday watch, I don't mind the look honestly. I also don't have a significant other giving me fashion advice haha. The heart rate monitor has been fantastic and I'm no longer having to carry a separate device around to measure it anymore! Weekly forecast not looking great, 50% chance or greater for rain every day this week. Heading out of town to play this weekend though and it's looking much more promising there! mikeanthony, HardcoreLooper, MrBandit and 1 other 4 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: LINK.1 34" Ball: Tour (Thanks MGS for allowing me to test these!) TCUfrog
So played my first round with the watch yesterday (sort of). I play every round with my Apple Watch on and it never bugs me, but after hitting 10-15 shots on the range I couldn’t wear the LX-5 and play at the same time. Overall the feel while light felt bulky and was a major distraction to my eye sight when getting set up in my stance. It felt like even more of a distraction on the putting green. I think ultimately it had less to do with the size of the watch face and more to do with the thickness of the face. It stands almost a half inch tall off the wrist. The data it was providing was very valuable as this was my 3rd time playing the course, so I found a creative way to use this throughout the round. I walk and carry my bag most days, so slapping it on my bag was easy enough and I could review the yardage and slope right there on my bag quickly. I did not experience the delay in finding the course that some other reviewers have noted. It wasn’t fast but had the course pulled up within 2-3 minutes. Short on course data review:The front-center-back data was extremely helpful as I often use my bushnell V4 to get exact pin location and then miss that yardage by a bit and am off the back or short of the green if puns are tucked. I also noticed I was playing quicker as I wasn’t having to pull my rangefinder out of its case or my phone out of my pocket on every shot. I’m playing a brand new course in north Georgia this Friday and Saturday and will write up my full review of the watch based on those rounds because I think the ability to see the course details and slope will be very helpful on a new course.
