Just finished listening to the latest podcast on whether you should purchase used golf equipment. There were a lot of analogies to purchasing a car used. I wonder if the oems consider or do they already use a pre-owned sales model?

 

I golfer would have the ability to trade in a previous generation model driver, in this instance, in exchange for a discount on the latest model or for the ability to purchase some next new product at an earlier release date.

 

The manufacturer would then be able to verify if the club is authentic prior to bestowing any compensation to the seller and then be able to sell a manufacturer-guaranteed authentic club.

 

Not sure what effect this would have on online retailers that buy up used or older equipment. Does anyone know if oem's rely on that segment for revenue?

I know Callaway has a program, I don't know about other manufacturers.  I found this one by googling "callaway pre-owned"

Thanks for the tip! It seems like the OEMs are comfortable not risking the value of their offerings by facilitating a pre-owned program - except for Callaway.. I did see that Ping provides authentication for online retailers.

Does that protect against buying counterfeit clubs 100% of the time???

I purchased a "preowned" Tour Edge Exotics EXS driver directly from Tour Edge and got a terific deal!  I just called and asked......

They have a preowned section on their site:  https://shop.touredge.com/pages/certified-pre-owned

 

For the OP,  TaylorMade used to have a pre owned site but not they work with Global golf(I think??).

Yep, thats where I went first, but before I pulled the trigger I had a few questions so I called them......absolutely terrific experience.

I think for most of the OEMs that are not currently in the business of buying and reselling used clubs is because they don't want to take on the large inventory holding costs for the inventory of used clubs.

Taylormade does usually offer extra trade in value to encourage current taylormade club owners to trade up to the newest models, at least for a short period of time
