Corey Paul Functional Art Wedges

Recently I was able to purchase a set of Corey Paul Functional Art wedge heads on EBay.  The wedge heads are forged of 1025 steel in a raw brushed black finish with some minimal stamping and understated paint fill.  They are 52, 56 and 60 degree heads.  

This is my first time building clubs by myself.  Decided to pair the wedge heads with some BB&F ferrules, KBS Tour V wedge shafts and SuperStroke Traxion tour grips.  Kept the color scheme of black, red, white and silver throughout.

Very happy with the way they turned out and I’m excited to take them to the course tomorrow to try them out.

Forgot to mention that I put Prosoft vibration dampening shaft inserts in them too.

They look great. I think they use the same forgings as Haywood Golf

Put them in play yesterday.  Stuck a sixty in tight and made birdie.  The next hole with the same club chipped in for another birdie. 39 front, 38 back. No doubles, no three putts. Used the wedges a bunch yesterday since I missed a a lot of greens. 

Really like them, they will be staying in the bag.

Absolutely beautiful clubs. Love your style, I too use the same brand ferrules and always Prosoft inserts. Again, very nice.

Well, I guess my club building skills need some work.  The 56 head came loose while playing a couple of days ago.  Easy fix though,  removed the epoxy,  sanded everything again, cleaned everything up real well and then epoxied the head back on.  Played Sunday and today and no worries.  I think I must not have mixed the first batch of epoxy well enough, because it was kind of rubbery.  This time it is very hard. 

These wedges have just been dynamite around the greens.  Still figuring out the full swing yardages.  I’ve had at least one chip-in per round so far and several close calls besides.  Loving the performance and the looks.  

Will be bidding on some more to build for friends.

Do you have to grind these heads or are they ready to play once assembled?

The heads do not to be ground.  They are fully finished, just need to add a shaft, ferrule and grip of your choice and you are ready to go.  The weight of the heads are right at about 300 grams.  The lofts and lies have been consistent.  Since experimenting with this first set I have now built probably ten sets of these.  Some given to friends, some donated for golf tournament prizes and some sold to golfers in our Mens Golf Association.  The heads are soft enough to bend easily if you want to change the loft or lie.

Some of Corey Paul’s heads have additional hand grind applied to remove material on the leading edge and or provide additional toe and heel relief.  There are some with additional face milling to provide additional spin, but I have found that not to be necessary as I’m getting lots of spin with premium urethane golf balls.
