Soudog
Have a 10.5 degree driver and a 17.5 degree 4/5 wood that I use from the fairway. Looking for a bigger-headed 3 wood for driving on short par 4s and on tight holes. Any recommendations? Have mostly Ping in my bag now but have always loved Cobra. Looking for forgiveness and confidence standing over the ball. Thanks. 1 Quote Link to comment
SmoothG
I'd look at the Ping G400 or Cobra LTD. Quote PXG 0211 10.5* Callaway Mavrik 21* 7W Taylormade RSi1 5 Iron Taylormade RSi2 6-PW Taylormade PSI 50* Callaway Jaws 54* C Grind Wilson Staff Infinite Southside Maxfli Tour Link to comment
Kaplack
I would first try to, grip down on the Driver about 1.5 to 2.5 inches and shorten the swing slightly. The result may well be a longer straighter shot than a 3 Wood would give. Drivers have far bigger sweet spots and have far better technology than 3 woods. 3 Quote WITB: Driver: Taylormade SLDR Fujikura XLR8 61 S RH. 3 Wood: TaylorMade RBZ 3W Hybrid: Ping G400 3 Hyb 19 degree S Irons: Titleist 710 AP1 5-PW Aerotek Steelfiber i110 cw S RH standard lie Wedges: 50 Callaway MD 4, 54 Vokey SM5, 58 Callaway Forged Putters: Ping Grayhawk Putter Link to comment
DiscipleofPenick
One of the toughest shots is a backed off driver. Great thinking getting a 3W to fill the gap. Kaplack
The backed off Driver one of the toughest shots? Nicklaus, Woods, Snead, Hogan, Norman, Nelson ( Byron ) and about every Dude on TV hit the backed off Driver as their "go to Fairway Finder Shot". And ask most good players, "What is the hardest club to get comfortable/fit for"? They will say a 3 Wood. TeeBrain
A chip/bunt driver is absolutely my go-to fairway finder shot off the tee. For me, it's just easier and I much prefer this to a 3w, which I reserve pretty much exclusively for the fairway. Quote Link to comment

I know you like Ping/Cobra but this one might be worth testing... 2 Quote Link to comment

analyticandrew
The EXS 220 is what I recently got fit into. I was hitting it 245-255 with about 12 total yards of dispersion. Kansas King
I think the above suggestions are good. I would suggest trying to get a driver cut down to like 43" with maybe a little higher loft or get a strong 3-wood cut down to 41" or 42". Driver heads are the most forgiving heads in golf. Control is going to be largely dictated by length if you're swing isn't great (like most of us). If you want to toy around with some ideas and not spend too much you can get new Maltby woods built to you're specs for $50 to $90. They're high quality and won't break the bank when trying new things. Quote Link to comment

the great spinks
If you're only looking for off the tee box, check out the Taylormade original one. It comes in 11.5 and 13.5 with the ability to move up or down a few degrees. 1 Quote Link to comment

Looking for forgiveness and confidence standing over the ball. Thanks. I would stay away from large headed 3 woods. The larger head adds backspin to lower strikes that robs distance. This makes that type of club strictly a tee club = what you are describing anyways. Now, if you still want to pursue it then I will recommend this club as I have used it and it did exactly what you described. Taylormade RBZ Stage 2 TS 13 degree 3 wood.
