Well ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for our first major of the year.  Not much to say about it other than, it’s about time!

 

I am picking the man wielding the Tiger wands.

Well, yes, it is about time . I'm picking Webb Simpson.  It will especially odd to have a major event w/o fans.  That said, I'm so thankful the PGA has not opted to pump in background crowd noises.  Just saw a brief bit of a MLB game with that... pretty corny IMO.

Think it's going to be hard to look past JT, Brooks, and Bryson this week but maybe this is the week Rickie, Finau, or Rahm break through for that first major.

Or maybe Tiger gets #16 for #83. Cool weather in the forecast all week though, so his back might be an issue. Also definitely not opposed to Rory winning.

Spieth has a chance to complete the career Grand Slam. Maybe he puts it together for four rounds finally.

Hopefully it'll be a good one.

I had the big cat as my pick from earlier on. 

However brooks made a case for being number one on my list this weekend. 

With all of the doubts on my mind, I'm locking in on Rory.

OK, we have at least 2 PGA Championship threads.  Can we get them merged??

 

I would like to see Jordan Spieth win the Grand Slam, but he hasn't showed that he can put 4 rounds together.

It's hard to count out TW, but I don't think he has enough reps in to compete this year, and his putting has been a little off.

While it would be great to see Koepka and JT battle down to the wire, I have two "out on a limb" picks, and I have no idea why.

Harding Park looked absolutely stunning on Live From last night.  Nothing like the anticipation and excitement leading into the first major of the year......even if it is in August!

Iron play is always at a premium at Harding Park.  Putting needs to be good, but not great.  I'm gonna take Colin Morikawa for the upset.

Hearing the rough is so tough it's nearly unplayable. Sounds like driving accuracy will be most important. 

I think Brendon Todd will make a showing, but it'll come down to Collin Morikawa and Chez Reavie.

Here are my 3 guys:

1) Daniel Berger - he has been solid his past 6 rounds (T2, CUT, T3, 1, T4, T5)

2) Matthew Fitzpatrick - longshot to win, but his putting has been on fire. If he can get his irons to find the green, he'll make some putts.

3) Brooks Kopeka - Major Brooks is here. He proved me wrong last week (I thought he would continue to struggle).

There is a 250 yd par 3 this week? Yikes. I wonder what the yardage will be if the hole is placed in the back.

Listening to David Duval as we speak.  DD suggest the rough isn't something these players aren't going to have seen before.  They actually see it on a regular basis.  The key difference is, in San Francisco, that rough is going to be wet the entire week.  Players will have to use the early part of the week to learn what the water causes the golf ball to do out of the rough.

Very nice insight by DD.  Would love to see him or Brad Faxon on the tournament call rather than Faldo.

As much as I would love for Tiger to take this one I worry about his back in colder weather. I think Koepka or Webb takes it down. 

Is there a contest for this major like in previous years? I was looking around but didn't see anything, wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.

I think it is silly to bet against old Brooks at this point so I will be going with Koepka! Just happy it’s finally major time!!

No sorry.  We were one Major short of a slam.  And Two other sports have the Triple Crown

But we do have something really cool planned for the US Open and Masters!

My apologies for the double thread.  Still getting used to the website version of the forum.  I was using the app for everything.  
 

Bryson making some comments about the rough being short enough where he is planning on using the Kraken whenever he can.  Bold move Bryson, but I think it could pay off for him. 
 

I must confess, I am not familiar with the Harding Park course, and it seems bland, but El Tiger likes it, so it is good in my book.
 

Still bummed we don’t get an Open this year.

I'm on record a page back picking Collin Morikawa.  I think Patrick Reed is going to play very well on this course and set-up as well.  Reed may have the best short game in the world.  That will be key this week.

I wish fans were allowed. I was planning on trying to attend back in May as this is only 4 hours away. This is about as close as a Major will get to me.

Did you go to the US Open at Pebble Beach last year?  My friend lived just 15-20 minutes outside of Monterrey and went; he said it was an awesome experience.

That is pretty close but is also just far enough away. Plus tickets to that are way harder to come by. Too many people wanting to get to pebble.
