I mentioned this before we started, but I haven’t done fantasy since 1992... I had a week where half of my team was on a bye. What are we “supposed” to do on those weeks so we don’t lose our “real” players??? There was no way I was dropping half my team for one week’s worth of points....

Chalk it up to an L when drafting jn my other league live it’s inevitable  someone always has a wash week. If you were in my division I would say drop them all so I can pick them up

That's always tough and when you want to or need to keep your players it happens. If you can use your IR spots that normally helps a bit. Only thing is to look when you draft to see how the bye weeks are, however this year with injuries so hard to do sometimes.

Dang, Pats got me. All news said Michel was traveling to Houston, and was projected points. I turn on the TV and he is out.

That moment you look at the live scoring and see your 5 inactive players have more points than your 9 starters. 

I know some of the starters are yet to play, hopefully they'll do good.

Yeah I've had a few weeks like that. This week nearly everyone on the bench is on a bye, and the one player with a game this week (Randall Cobb) ended up injured.

They should make a fantasy league where your roster locks on Thursday night, but Tuesday morning is when you pick your team. No bench or IR moves until the week plays out.

Man, I really wish I had paid attention to injury/concussion protocols this week. Looks like i'll sneak by with a 1-1 week, but could have easily been 2-0 had I switched my RB's around...

We have two weeks left and the top...2 from each divison go to playoffs, or top 4? I can't remember...

Top 6 from each division make the playoffs.  Top 2 seeds from each get a first round bye.

I'm in another league that is a modified keeper league with super crazy rules - 2 QBs, 3 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, D - best ball, 23 man roster, actually 25 this season because of COVID - you get to keep 5 each year, they are tiered.   Top 4 make the playoffs and I sit tied for 4th with the promise of a couple of guys coming off of IR and playing, soon.

 

So I received an offer of Herbert (my guy) for Watson and Kamara last night - before you say, "What is the guy nuts?"   Remember that it is a keeper league, Herbert would be owned for 3 years, while Watson is not, Kamara is but I have McCaffery (one of my injured guys that I'm waiting on) and they are in the same tier so he's not that helpful in that regard - I pulled the trigger though - the Herbert/Rodgers combo at QB has been great for me but Watson is not much of a loss and I have Big Ben as my 3rd QB - he's fully capable of going off.

 

Pretty excited about my prospects there - high ceilings are the key in that league.

Looking at average scoring, the results are wild.

I am in 6th place in Stud division, but on average score 4th highest weekly points. Reason I sit in 6th? I have the second highest points against. Maybe it all evens out during the playoffs. *crosses fingers*

I've never been in a keeper league but it sounds like a lot of fun! Hard to go wrong with Watson - he's a great QB.

I feel you man, going into this week i was 13th in points scored, 7th against. Hopefully it evens out.

So, question on how the standings work and how each team is ranked. This is not a complaint, only looking to understand what metrics are valued more. See the situation below with tie overall records, but very different conf records. So is the measurement step down 1) Overall Records, 2) Pts For? or what is that #2 and possibly #3 measurement step?

Overall record, Total Points... that's the setup.

Wouldn't Conference record make more sense since the top 6 in each conference would move forward to the playoffs? I know I'm a bit biased in this particular scenario and probably too late in season to change at this point, but perhaps next year!

Think about it this way, if the division record ends in a tie it defaults to total points anyway, plus it takes some of the inherent schedule luck out of the system. This could lead to, for example, a team 33rd in overall points, but went 7-4 in their division being ranked ahead of a team 16th in overall points, but 5-5 in their division.

I do agree. I think next year it should be Overall Record, Conf. Record, then Points Scored.

 

Edit: I have no dog in this fight. I ended up with a tie outside of my Conf. so no chance this situation applies to me haha

We talked a little about this in our commissioners Slack chat.  It all depends on how we can manage the schedules.  If people are not playing the exact same schedules within their division then points scored is the best tie-breaker.  Luck already plays a huge factor in your overall record (matchups, bye weeks, injuries, etc) but that doesn't mean we have to double dip with it to break ties.

Just remember that you are already starting with a 43% chance of making the playoffs (6 out of 14 teams) and realistically it's probably a little higher than that due to people dropping out or not setting their lineups.

We can always put this up for vote next year but we cannot change the rules mid-season for this year.

Agree that changes this late wouldn't be appropriate. Definitely something to consider for next year, though!

I'm sure just like previous years we will make small changes and tweaks and put it to a vote at the beginning of the season. Overall it's been a good season all things considered with injuries and all. Also Steelers/Ravens game getting postponed doesn't help.

I would love to see another flex spot in play!

We can definitely look at a league vote for next year. Just know that all 4 commissioners were firmly behind points as a tie breaker.

Fantasy football doesn't really lineup with actual football when considering what's fair bc you can only control your own team. You can't affect the other team at all. There's no schematic advantage or matching up with other peoples strengths and weaknesses. You just have to score the most points. So points are essentially the be all end all when comparing teams in fantasy sports.

And while yes, a conference winner is a conference winner. However, we are talking about the 4 spot in this division. Neither team would make the playoffs in a true wildcard scenario.
