I'm so excited to try out these D7 Forged irons. Confession: I've never hit a forged iron, of any kind, ever. ... Don't sell yourself short. D3 is still college golf which is a big step up from high school. High school golfers making it to play DI is 2.0%, DII is 1.6% and DIII a whopping 2.2% so that is pretty rare company. I think you are gonna love forged irons, although some lucky players can't tell a whole lot of difference. I am looking forward to all you guys reviews.

Yea, I’m really looking forward to this review as well. It’s seeming like all the reviews this year have been really good. Which means that club makers are really starting to figure out how to make clubs that feel good, look good, and most importantly, work good. It’s all about matching up clubs to players. My group of Hogan testers all are really digging them, the Titleist group seemed pretty happy, the sub70 699pro guys are all singing the praises...

what’s going on here?

The guys are patiently awaiting their deliveries.   Most of the club testings this year have been a 3 to 4 week delivery time, due to supply issues for the OEM's from China and then reduced work flow at the assembly plants to remain safe.   Hopefully they will have them within the next two weeks.   I know they are anxious, these will be a very interesting iron to follow, possibly the best of both worlds.

Looks like a group that will test every aspect of these clubs. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they go with manipulating the distances with them. Its a skill we should all possess but the tools need to be capable too. There's no point playing a half shot if you're getting inconsistent distances through the odd rocket off the face.

I think OEMs get a bad wrap. They aren’t our enemies, they want to make equipment that helps us play better golf. The players distance category is an example of using newer technologies to create clubs that look better and still have the help that many of us require.

... I could not agree more Rev. First and foremost they are all a business trying to make a profit so of course they want to sell everyone everything. But talking with VP's of Engineering through the years, it is clear they want to make a better product to help all golfers play better. They can get pretty excited and passionate about a new release. Sales VP's are a different animal and their job is to SELL!!! But without them we don't have Engineers so they are a necessary evil. 

... I am reminded of the original Hi Bore that the engineers were not ready to release because there was a spin issue they needed to address when hit high on the face, but Sales over rode them and it was released. They began to fix it with the 2nd generation but it was still not where they wanted it and needed another 6 months but Sales again won and it was released. By the time they got it where they wanted it with the 3rd version, word was out on all the golf forums and it died before anyone could find out how good it was. Sales pulled the plug with sluggish sales and discounted it heavily then canceled that series. The Engineers were furious and that's how I found out because they made me promise not to use any names or insinuate the information came from inside Cleveland but I could say "informed sources."

I am really excited to put these clubs into play and see what they can do for me. It has been a couple years since I've done an official review, and I think this is the first club that I have even put my name in the hat for in that time. When I did my previous official review, I came out of it wanting to make sure that if I ever applied for one again, it was for something that I really was interested in, and something that I thought I could provide something to during the review process. These clubs are the first ones that did that. They look saucy. 

I think Wilson has done a good job in the last 5 years getting itself back onto the golf radar. I know prior to Driver vs Driver I had little thought of any new Wilson equipment, and probably would have put them in the same category as Top Flight, Maxfli and Tommy Armour. But 5 years later, just like a couple of those brands, they are really doing a much better job on image. 

I've been golfing my whole life, but in earnest since the late 90's. My first ever new club purchase was the Taylormade Burner Bubble Driver. And my first memory of Wilson clubs were the Fatshafts. I remember really wanting a set of those, and even got the pro shop to let me take them out for 9 holes. Sadly, my paper route didn't quite allot for new irons. 

Since those golden times, I've played mostly GI category irons, with a lean towards the players category sometimes. My last few sets have been, Adams CB2s(my personal favorite), Taylormade M2 Pros, Ping i200/i500 split, and currently Sub 70 639CB/699 pro split set. I don't strongly prefer a cast or a forged head, I don't think I can tell the difference. So these D7 Forged are on paper a perfect fit for what I'm looking for. Forged face married to a cast body, with 5 Power Hole's and a Power Chamber to boot. 

Currently, my 8i is my 150y club and a driver SS in the 100-105 range depending on the day. I tend to work my ball flight more and more these days. I've been working with a swing coach all summer in effort to get my hdcp into the low singles. As a result of that my life long push/draw(i.e. hook) has now become a much more consistent straight draw, and I work in a baby fade on many approach shots which has been a real nice add to my game. So making sure these continue to let me shape shots both ways will be important to me.  I'll be pairing these D7 Forged with some Recoil F4 110s for this test and the wait for them to arrive is going to turn this into a very long August. 

I'm not planning to compare these to any of my previous clubs, just go through what I like(or dislike) about them and how they work for me.That said, if someone has a question about how they do compare to something I have hit before in terms of forgiveness/feel/look I'll be happy to answer that. To answer a question from @fixyurdivot before he even asks... I did not get these extended 6" so that I could stay on my Onewheel and hit them that way. =P

Yeah, always a helmet on the streets, and I rarely go above 17, mostly, I just use it for golf and cruises. Still haven't taken a spill on it. So, here is hoping that trend stays.

Wow, it takes a bigger man than me to play these sticks  .  I am officially going on record saying these are among the top 3 worst looking irons ever... the golf club equivalent of what a Chevy Vega/AMC Pacer/Ford Pinto offspring would look like .  

Man, we've had some seriously great iron tests this season and it will be real interesting to see how these rate among the testers.  Like the P790's, I'm still not completely sold on the "speed slot", aesthetically, and Wilson has lots of them. That said, our very own Hit Squad rated them #1 in the PD category and that is saying something when you consider the competition. Chris (@Thin2win) is currently gaming two of my top contenders in the PD group (i210 & i500) and I'll be particularly interested in his review.

These things were absolutely atrocious, but I didn't know any better.  And besides, twisted shafts!
