I'll bet they marketed the left hand twist shaft to fight off the slice and the right hand twist for the hook.  Of course they could get away with such claims prior to MGS showing up .

I wouldn't have put i210 in the PD category. These are my gamers and even though the Power Spec (which is what I've got) means the lofts match up to some of the other PD irons, the technology in the head seems to lean more towards Players Cavity. But this is certainly something I'll be checking on! If, matching loft-for-loft, the D7s aren't any longer than my i210s, then I think the results of an i500 head-to-head would be really interesting!

Well to be sure, the classification of irons is far from a pure science.  I've seen my G410's listed as GI and SGI in various articles.  They too have a "power spec" option - and perhaps that drives much of the deciding factor?  The PD category seems to be even more blurred.  I do know, having tested the Blueprints, the players/classic end of the spectrum is not for me.  What I have not done is tested the opposite end of the spectrum and how the G710's would compare... and these come in a power spec loft as well.  For those of us that have a higher than average launch/ball height, that might actually be a great match??

This is a great question! My irons are Power Spec + DG S300 hard-stepped all in an effort to get my ballflight down, not to get me extra distance. I'm by no means a long hitter, especially with my irons (Driver SS is ~110mph for ~265 carry or so) but on a typical day from 150, I'm pulling a 7-iron. And if there's wind? Forget it, I just quit...

I think for me, the three biggest distinctions between the various categories, is offset, top line and blade length. Loft doesn't really factor into sgi or gi for me at all. 

I guess I've broken them down in my head in the following order in terms of least forgiving to most forgiving(or in order of how challenging a 4 iron is to hit) :

Blades

Players

Players distance

Game improvement

Super game improvement

I was worried about the extra offset in the F8's, and that worked out OK.  Hitting the D7 Forged in the fitting didn't seem too weird off a mat.  I'm curious as to how I'll do with a thinner sole.  I think I've gotten away with quite a bit with the fatter soles.

Thanks for the sympathy mate...I've been reliably informed that we will be there in March again, last 2 weeks.

This anticipation is turrrrible.

so I got paired up with a terrific young man in todays round. I wasn't sure what to expect, as he was a bit heavy, bearded and heavily tattooed. But he had a wonderful natural swing, and ended up with a low 80's. He had an extreme slice with his driver (regular shaft), but was drilling his irons. I think if he got a better driver with a stiff shaft, maybe x stiff, he could get that big slice under control and he would be extremely long. But anyways, super nice guy, and a drummer in a touring punk band haha, but currently out of work due to covid. He was sad because none of his friends golfed and they all thought it was weird, so, here he was a young punk drummer, paired up with an old man twice his age, who used to also be a drummer. funny how gold brings people together eh? So lets see, where was I going with all of this?

Oh yea, after finishing up the 12th hole, I casually looked at his irons, and guess what he was playing? forged D7's haha. I told him about the site and all the great people in here and that they were just getting a review group started with those irons. He said he loved them and I can attest, he was crushing them. 15th hole 160. I his a solid 6 iron, he hit his 8... long... Looking forward to  this review boys..

I promise not to do that in many and various ways. Great story and would love to have him here. Would never punk him. :)
