18birdies AI coach

Recommended Posts

I’ve tried the 18birdies AI coach for the past few days.  It seems to really hit the nail on the head and identify specific swing faults.  The drills seems to be appropriate and helpful.  Has anyone else tried this?

I gave it a try a while back and think it can be a point to start, and I find watching the videos of my swing informative on its own. The only issue I see is of course that its trying to fit everyone into the same general swing. There are plenty of very successful, including the PGA Tour, that have swings that would not fit this guide, but obviously work for them. Of course working with a teaching professional is obviously the best option given there ability to customize and work with your swing as it is and decide if some moves are worth fixing (say like Dustin Johnson's bowed left wrist at the top, not text book but he is not about to change that). But as a general tool and a way to simply watch your swing it has some benefit.

I use it: generally speaking I find it a bit too flattering. I don’t think my swing is anywhere near a 9.4, but it did correctly diagnose my head movement on driver swings, as well as some on purpose “over the top”/slice swings I made to see if it was actually tailoring lessons. These one size fits all diagnoses help the average 30+ handicap, but if you have more subtle issues they might be better addressed by an actual coach who knows your swing...
