HardcoreLooper
I always like stopping in my local Goodwill to see what treasures might be there. And what did I find but a vintage Miller red, white and blue mini-staff bag. I figure this is a perfect home for the Apex Grinds and my grandfather's old Titleist persimmons. It's not a Burton (sorry @BIG STU), but for 10 bucks, I can't complain. And yes, those are both X headcovers. This bag's so sexy, it's double-X rated. The Cash-In will not see action - I have a Zebra face-balanced mallet on the way. Shapotomous
LUV those Hogans!! I need an old canvas bag worthy to hold my classics.....the DynaPower Wilson Staff's, the Staff Tour Block Persimmon Driver, Hogan Apex 3w and Staff II Tour Block 5w & Bullseye standard. I was looking at the 5w today and thinking i bet i hit that 200 yds, why haven't i found a head shape like that in a modern 200 yard club....the perfect shape and the face is so square, not hook faced like all the 22* or 23* hybrids that fly that distance. A waxed canvas Mackenzie will run you what, about $700? My mom sews quite a bit; I wonder if she could make something like that. Shapotomous
A $700 canvas bag isn't what i had in mind!! More like a $15 Goodwill find! The Hogan 3w does have the speed slot. Those Titleist woods look nice, can you post a top view pic of the grain? I always liked that style insert, like the eye-o-matic. Shapotomous
I do remember the Sounder. Back in the 70's the pro at the club i worked at hit a blonde Penna driver. It did have a deep face compared to most other drivers of the time. My fav driver at that time was a Citation....beautiful shape and very square set up. I may have a line on an old Wilson bag....the classic red w/ the white Wilson down the side.....and its in my el cheapo price range! I meant to mention before I had a zebra in my hand at 2nd swing back in Feb....it was in the bins they set up outside for about $10. For some reason I was weak & resisted. I won't let that happen again! I didn't remember it from back in the late 80s/early 90s. Lots of Hot-Zs and Burtons for the older club members, and the young, cool (relatively speaking) members all had the original Ping stick bags. Is it just hollow under that plate? Yep it is hollow under the plate. When they were new they had a stud welded to the plate you could install washers on to adjust the weight, LOL after a while the stud would get loose. Now it is one piece about 1/2" thick behind the face. Over the years I have seen many modifications to get the weight up. Tad Moore came up with the most used one. Filling up the cavity with epoxy and lead powder mix. Now when the Teardrop company acquired the rights to the Zebra line those putters were made solid the plate will come off but they are solid and are heavy. I have seen some of them just the opposite drilled to make lighter.
