Well looks like I kinda accidentally got a new driver - Honma Tour World TW747 460

And the Honma has arrived! Definitely a “premium” look and feel (the headcover is even line with faux fur).
IMG_1079.JPG
Going immediately in the bag for a 7am tomorrow without any adjustments. Playing another found ball 2019 Pro V1 to keep things as even as possible with that last round with the Atomic. This particular found ball has a nice little custom message that raises an obvious question given that is was a lost ball.

I made a comment on Twitter quite a while ago (When Justin Rose was playing this driver) that I thought the homage to both Tiger Woods AND Club Pro Guy on this driver was exceptional.

I was very impressed with it! Not magically bashing 300 yarders or anything, but probably about 5 yards longer on the marginal-to-good strikes than what I was getting out of the Atomic. I had read and seen in reviews that the Honma has a sneaky draw bias, so I was a bit concerned as I'm a natural draw hitter, but my good swings didn't produce anything overly left in the default settings (in fact it probably stayed a bit straighter than the Atomic even though I have that one set as much as I can get it to a fade bias). I'll get it out on the TopTracer range at some point this week to get some numbers and tweak the settings, but I'm confident that it'll wind up being my gamer, especially because it really is a gorgeous club at address.

Here was probably the best of the bunch. Maybe a 15 yard downhill, but very well struck and pretty sure it hit the front of the bunker on the carry and just barely stayed in it.

Played a super twilight this evening and wound up getting in 16. I’d adjusted the Honma to the “Open” setting beforehand, dropping the loft a degree and making it sit a bit more upright, which should suit my swing.
Key thing I figured out is that I can’t “try” to swing this club hard. I know that’s a good rule in general, but seemed especially the case with this driver. Easy swings create a ton of pop though, my last drive going an effortless 275.

Well that was a surprise. Like many of you, I'll hop on eBay and see what sort of sticks are ending soon and seem a bit under-priced. This one seemed to fit that bill:
image.png.e13907fde4e93f6763632fa69f671984.png

Never hit a Honma before. To be fair, I did do like a minute of research before bidding and it seems like it might be a good fit with my less than overpowering driver swing. Will be super interested to see what it does compared to what I have in the bag now (Tommy Armour Atomic) and if I hate it, I guess that'll teach me to bid on stuff I don't necessarily want/need!

I bought one for pretty much the same price in late June and love it. I'm not a long hitter probably 250-260, 63 years old but have picked up around 10 yards on real solid strikes. Hope you enjoy it

I know with TaylorMade you can do upright and minus -1°, but typically if you’re going to an open setting, it makes the driver flatter. That being said, I’ve never seen a Honma adapter so you could totally be correct.

Open is more upright with Honma, I'd attach the manual but it doesn't seem to be working right now.

3 wood - TM M3 17 deg (set to 15.5 deg and 3 deg open) GD DI 7x

3 Hybrid - TM rocketballz Accra Dymatch S165, 68g, M5 flex (XS)

Irons  (4-5) - Srixon 585s Nippon Modus Pro 120x

Irons (6-W) - Srixon 785s Nippon Modus Pro 120x

That’s strange to me, but oh well. Don’t spend too much time working on it. You learn something new everyday. I go -1 on my Wilson to open the face up (so flattening the lie as well) and lessen the left miss. Seems like the Honma would go counterintuitive for me. I still think the hosel markings on the Srixon drivers are the most confusing ones on the market. If you look at the outside of the hosel it’s easy (N, +1, -1 and up), but looking at the tip inside the head drives me crazy.

I got one of these as well about a week ago...I'm still trying to sort out the adjustments instructions.

Just tap it in.  Lil' taparoo.

Honma's adjustment system is unique to them. I went back to standard with mine and haven't touched it since (happy with the ball flight in that setting). Fortunately the in-house Vizard seems to be a decent shaft as you really can't switch it out to something different.

I use the VivoActive 3 for mine, almost 3 yr's old and still holding a charge for 2x 18's (if played consecutive day's, heh).

I had the Honma TW 747 3-Wood, was not a fan of the low profile (PXG did the same) so sold it to a friend ~2 wks after I got it, he came back a couple of weeks later with something clinking around in the head.  Reached out to Honma, because I purchased new from them, with no response from them to this date (have emailed probably 4 times since mid July).  Obviously not happy with their CS so no more Honma's for me...
