tony@CIC
Just got the free sensors from Ping for both my and my wife's clubs. Since her phone is the only one that can run the ARRCOS app (mine is too old), can I set it up where we have two different sets of clubs and then segregate the data based on my and her clubs? Or do I need to break down and get a phone that'll run the app for my data? Reesedw
@tony@CIC, it has been a couple of years for me, but I think 2 things 1) contacting Arccos and letting them know whats going on and they might have a way to do it. 2) but also the way it works you would need to keep her phone on you while you play and also she would have to do the same. unless the two of you don't play together that might be an issue.. I think you'll need to get a new phone, I know some guys bought a older Iphone solely for that purpose and it worked fine.. Check with @HardcoreLooper, I think he did that.. TR1PTIK
Yep, probably going to have to buy a new phone. One thing I'd like to see Arccos do now that they have Link is to create a way to transfer data directly from Link to the Arccos Dashboard like Game Golf did. It would make things much simpler for guys like you with older phones or those who simply want to leave the phone at home entirely. Check with @HardcoreLooper, I think he did that.. Indeed I did. I was originally led to believe that the Arccos app would not run on my old phone, so I bought an iPhone SE. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Android guy, but the Arccos experience depends greatly on the quality of the phone's GPS. I can't tell you which Android phones have good GPS, but I can tell you that the Motorola G series has bad GPS. Like legendarily bad. Like Arccos analyzed some of my data and laughed it was so bad. So I still carry around the iPhone to use with Arccos. If you don't want to get a new phone yet, I wouldn't be surprised if you have a friend with an old iPhone 5/5s/SE/6 in a drawer somewhere. Just be sure to download the course before you leave the house. 1 hour ago, Jmikecpa said: I think with the Link you still need to run Arccos off your phone at least to start a round, similar to an Apple Watch. I don't really care about keeping a small iPhone in my pocket; I just forget it at home about 50% of the time. Or I keep it in my bag and the battery is dead. IceHawk
Curious to know how everyone's experience has been using the system? I took advantage of the same offer from Ping, but the experience thus far hasn't been all that great. One of the sensors wouldn't pair, but they were great about sending out a replacement. The app is excellent to use and the updates on the current conditions at the course are invaluable, especially the wind. However, I had my phone fully charged before my first round and was sure to close down all apps etc, but I still ran out of battery life by the 13th hole. I may have had my display set too bright, but it looks like I will have to bring a portable charger with me next time. It did miss a few shots here and there, and I found myself on my phone a little more often than expected. Good system, but I'm not fully convinced on it yet - I do want to try the link. What kind of phone do you have, and do you normally have battery issues? Can you run Google Maps for 4 hours straight without plugging your phone in? Back when I used to have first-hand knowledge of such things (almost 10 years ago), GPS chips were notoriously bad about chewing up power. And the Arccos app lives on GPS. I would hope that GPS chips are a little easier on the battery now, but I can't say for sure. I use an old iPhone 6s for Arccos (the GPS accuracy is horrible on my otherwise great Moto G7), and I'm still around 50% charge after 18 holes. I'm going to have to give it another go, especially since I now have the replacement sensor. My screen was set a little too bright, and I could probably make a few other adjustments, but I don't really want to turn my data off. Likely time for a new phone and just use the 8 and the GPS function.
TxMike3
I have an iPhone 7 and run Arccos Caddie and the Grint at the same time without issues. I try to start the round as fully charged as I can but am usually at 40 - 50% charge at the end of the round. I haven't tried to use it for 36 holes without charging yet. I rarely open Arccos while I'm playing and only use the Grint for scorekeeping and stats so I'm not constantly opening and/or running the maps. For quick yardage checks I have a Garmin s10 GPS watch. I haven't had any issues with carrying my phone in my front pocket and I don't think it's missed a shot in the 7 rounds that I've used it. That said, I ordered a Link when they came out and received it this week. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but have a question if some of you have...I read that to set the pin position you just have to stand next to the pin and press the W button. Do you have to do that before your first putt or just before you leave the green? I determined not to let my tech stuff slow down my play so I'm hoping I don't have to walk to the pin before I hit my first putt.
