Firebird
Have them and every now and then a group I play with play a round where we have to use old clubs just for fun. We even try to use old balls. I still have a dozen Balata Z - not that old-old but still makes a difference. Love the feel of blades and the old Wilson Persimmon Woods. ZenGolfer
I do from time to time. Its fun to break out the persimmons and the blades. IMO, the persimmons don't work as well with today's golf balls because they don't spin enough but they still work. Sent from my LG-H931 using MyGolfSpy mobile app You should really give it a try, I think you might enjoy it. I bought my older bladed irons at a thrift store for $18 and that got me a set of Wilson Staff Fluid Feel 2-PW. I'm going to say I got super lucky to find them and they were in great condition after some cleaning up. My persimmons I got from @deejaid and still need to get out with them some more to get used to them. As for balls, I've heard Wilson Zips are good for use with persimmons and I have a double dozen of them in the car. I also believe that the Bridgestone for balls can work well with them, I think I might have read that on the Powered by Persimmon blog that deejaid runs. All I can say is go for it! rwc356
I play nearly modern, 70-80"s vintage and hickory shafted clubs from the 30's. Have to admit the vintage and hickory clubs bring the biggest smiles to my face. Key to enjoyment (at least for me) is to make sure to select tees that match the appropriate distance for these clubs as well as older traditional courses where the game is more along the ground as compared to newer courses which require high shots carried over hazards. silver & black 1 Quote Just an older guy with 8 or 9 clubs and a MacKenzie Walker bag. Onestoptech
I still play a callaway steelhead driver 9° Thinking of going back to my ping eye 2 bc irons. Still use a two ball putter. I hit my steelhead 275 carry and can shape it anyway I want to. Bigger/ Modern drivers I can't keep straight. I leave the face way open and the ball will slice onto the next fairway to the right. Don't have the speed for my mizuno or nike blades anymore. Trying to figure out weather I sell them and get some modern cleveland launcher hb clubs with graphite shafts or just fit graphite to my old ping eye 2's. Returning to golf after a 4 year recovery from auto accident. Quote steelhead 9°, rbz 5w, ping awr 2 bc irons, isi irons, or nike vapor irons, cleveland 52°, 58°, 64° 2 ball putter. Link to comment
