Pull Hooking Driver BAD...NEED HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Can you help me with my hard snap hook?  My irons are dead on, but my drivers are struggling BAD.  Can you help me?  It has been this way for the last year or two.  I have quite a few clips from the range today.  I tried shifting my grip so my right hand thumb is in line with the top of my shaft.

I am not qualified to be giving any specific advice, but I did have a problem with low snap hooks. For me, it was a grip issue. This article helped me:

http://www.golfwrx.com/317096/the-problem-with-a-strong-grip/

Specifically, my right hand was too far under the grip (too strong grip). Needed my right hand to be more neutral.

Not saying this is your problem, but maybe something to look at.

**Disclaimer - I am not in any way shape or form qualified to give this advice as an 11 'cap and not a professional teacher...**

But since you asked, do you have a two-way miss with the driver? Guessing your other miss is some form of slice/fade? (Also, I'm assuming your target is the flag out there, where your shoulders are set, since your feet are set pointing right a bit.)

My untrained eye would say you have an issue with rolling the club face open/inside takeaway, that you try to save by lifting the arms and getting across the line at top. From that position you come steep into the ball, raising the handle slightly while you early extend. If you look at the last two frames you can see that your club face is open right behind the ball and then you flip it shut right at impact trying to square it.

What happens if you focus on taking the club back with the head outside the hands like Mr. Woods in this shot?

I can wind up with similar issues off the tee. Couple of things I notice is that your feet appear closed to the target line (pointed right). Makes sense, but counterintuitively, this can actually encourage the pull. Try opening up the feet to the target line a bit. Second, when I’m getting pull-hooky, I try to focus on keeping that driver head scraping the turf as long as possible to start my backswing to keep from getting too far inside.

With the disclaimer out of the way and without looking at your video... I can tell you that my issue was caused by swinging with my arms only... coming in over the top.

After forcing myself to turn my waist and shoulders on the backswing, it became easier to swing inside-out and the pulls disappeared.

When i get into pull hooks which is pretty common for me, I'm not releasing and i'm swinging all arms and smashing it hard left. If I cant practice it away I'll just adjust my aim on the course more right to counter the pull. It usually takes me a few rounds to get it sorted out. And for some reason my hook pull adds 30 yards to my drive????

Less spin? Do you hit wipey fades otherwise?

This is pretty close to impact position. Only way to get rid of that is to have your shoulders more open at impact.

He is probably more open than most due to his fade but look at Bubba's shoulder at impact

I usually hit a fade yes, So I guess hitting the ball straighter with a pull would reduce spin and either carry or roll a little farther, but 30 yards is quite a bit.

If you normally hit a fade by coming out to in, swiping across the ball to the left (for a righty) and you for some reason start coming into the ball with a more neutral face ( but still swing left) the result will be a ball that starts and stays left, usually straight but it can also hook depending on grip. Hooks and pulls always add more yardage : and if you’re anything like me it’s just deeper into OB.
