Putting on carpet, sometimes at a course before a round if it's warm enough
Have never owned one but used at virtual golf or that a friend owned - felt like a great way to do technical work on putting, but didn't have enough time/repetition to really get everything out of it.
I'd want to test the slow - my biggest putting woe is leaving putts short but reading greens as faster than they normally are. And I normally play public/semi-private courses, so they'll have slower greens

(6) TESTERS WANTED: BIRDIEBALL PUTTING MAT

bg2020_indoormat_birdieball_std-05.jpg

The biggest knock on artificial putting greens is that they don't roll like real putting greens. BirdieBall believes it's cracked the code. Using a proprietary foam material, it claimed status as MyGolfSpy's  "Best Putting Mat 2020."

Given the state of the world, it seems everyone is adding something to the "at home" practice arsenal, so here's your chance to keep sharp while locked down.

This opportunity is available to current forum members residing in the US. To apply, reply to this thread with the following information:

  1. First Name and Location
  2. How do you keep your putting sharp through the winter?
  3. Current/Past Experience with putting mats
  4. Go to www.birdieball.com and tell us which speed green you'd want to test

1.) Ryan/Dallas, TX

2.) North Texas can get chilly. If I can’t get to the course, or weather doesn’t cooperate, I practice on a cheap felt mat.
3.) I’ve looked into the birdie ball mat but the mat I have is from target or Walmart(basic felt may)

4.) prefer to test the fast green speed

Mike - Florida

I have a very old putting mat I dug out of storage during the lockdown.

Living in Florida we can practice pretty much wherever and whenever we want.

I only have this one narrow piece of turf. It doesn’t roll very true though.

I (and my wife as well) would like the outdoor mat so I can get my current one out of our living room. If that isn’t available I would be grateful for anything you send should I win.

Currently using a PuttOUT mat with the PuttOUT pressure trainer.

The PuttOUT mat isn't very good.  It develops channels way to easily.

I'd love to test the medium speed mat with cups at each end.  It would be nice to see the difference between the Birdie Ball mats and the PuttOUT mat.

  1. Greg, Crestwood IL
  2. Old flat putting green mat in my basement
  3. I've had a green similar to the "putt-a-bout" for about 10 years.  Doesn't sit very flat which makes putts sometimes unpredictable.
  4. Medium speed green

I've had a BirdieBall putting green for the last 6 months.   I'd be happy to provide detailed feedback against the parameters you set.  Just let me know.   2 handicap.  Play 2-3 times per month.  Use the BirdieBall green a few times a week.

  1. Larson, Bozeman, Montana
  2. I don't practice putting (or Golf) at all during the winter. My carpet is too long to putt on. I just accept that it will take a day of practice at the putting green to get my touch back.
  3. My only real experience is with the ones at golf shops that are typically artificial turf over plywood. I did have the chance to use my dads mat once, but it was way faster than any greens I have ever putted on.
  4. I would like to test the Slow 9-10 stimpmeter, this is likely close to what I am used to putting on and would provide the greatest benefit to training/practicing at home over winter.

1. Chris - Eden Prairie, MN

2/3. I have super old carpet that has plenty of break and grain and 2 PuttOut(s). However, not at championship stimp speed ;) .  Would like to upgrade and or add to my garage where I will be creating a Sim setup for the winter. Currently product testing other golf equipment and have provided feedback that has produced design improvements.

4. The 4x18 Championship 11-14 Stimp (accompany the garage in Simulator install).

Josh / Quincy, IL

I typically putt on carpet or go to an indoor green for winter practice

My only experience with putting mats is a cheap one from 10 years ago

I would like to test the medium speed mat as it should be similar to my local playing conditions

Todd, Midlothian, Virginia

I don't practice putting in the off season unless the club is open

mats I have used in the past were poor quality, inconsistent, and hard to keep flat

I would like to test the medium speed because it is closest to where I play

1. Alex - Denver, Colorado

2. I roll some on the carpet in my house for 5 minutes, and then chase my dog around the house for 25 minutes trying to get the balls back. Inefficient to say the least.

3. My dad had one of the long runners with a slight ramp on the end and a hole on top with an automatic ball return that sprayed balls across the living room at mach 1.

4. Medium - 10 - 11 Stimpmeter - Private Course
