Taking a Divot and Sole Width Relationship

Does anyone have any insight on the relationship between the sole width of a golf club and the ability to take a divot? I am currently gaming the 2019 P790's and I rarely take a divot and when I do it is very shallow. I tend to play on firmer fairways and I'm not sure if that also would have anything to do with that as well. 

Side note: I'm not really looking to try and take a divot as my goal with each swing i'm just curious as to what's happening.

Lots more at play than sole width like angle of attack, speed, shaft, and most importantly arc depth. If my arc depth only goes low enough to brush the ground, you won’t take a divot.

This could very well be it. I never do more than brush the ground even on a practice swing. It's never really bothered me but I do always want answers as to why.

The why is because when you swing, the low point is just at ground level.

So if the lower point in my swing was below ground level then I would be taking more of a divot?

Yes, change the swing arc height and you can take a massive divot. Here is an article for you.
