Vegan_Golfer_PNW
I recently got fitted for new irons and am looking at the gapping of my clubs and trying to fill in what I need. My wedges are getting to their last legs (my 60* for sure) and wondering if shifting to a 3 wedge setup with more options at the top of the bag is the way to go for versatility on tight fairways or long par 3s. Was thinking a long the lines of a 55* or 56* Edison wedge and then a PXG 0311X 3I DI or TM 3 SIM DHY or a 4W for maximum versatility. I almost feel that having one less wedge may make my decision making around the greens easier but then struggle to justify the options at the top if they are so specialized. Has anyone else been down this road? revkev and tehuti 2 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. Rchang
This is so player dependent, but look at your rounds and track how often you need the different long clubs vs the gapping down low. My gap wedge is my 100 yard, my 54 is my 80, my 60 is the sand and high lofted shot. With those I can manufacture most of my shots. If you can do all your 100 in shots with 3 wedges and use the long clubs you’re adding, I’d say go for it. revkev, NRJyzr and Vegan_Golfer_PNW 3 Quote WITB TS2 10.5 M2 3HL Mavrik Max 5W Titleist 818 4 hybrid Mizuno JPX921 HMP 5-Gap Mizuno S19 56 Maltby TSW 60 Bobby Grace Shiloh putter
tehuti
When I got my new irons I went 7 iron to 49° G and kept my 52° and 56°. But I found that I didn’t need both the 49° and the 52°, so I benched the 52° and put my 7 wood back in the bag. So far it is working out great.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Vegan_Golfer_PNW and revkev 2 Quote PXG 0211 12° driver w/Project X Cypher R flex shaft KE4 TC 16° 4 wood w/Kuro Kage Black 60g shaft KE4 TC HyWay 21° utilitywood w/Maltby MPF shaft KE4 TC 22° 4 hybrid w/UST Proforce V2 Black shaft KE4 TC 25° 5 hybrid w/Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue shaft Lazrus 27° 6 hybrid w/Lazrus graphite shaft PXG 0211DC irons 7-PW w/Project X Cypher graphite shafts CBX2 50° wedge M-Series+ 56° wedge w/UST Recoil 660 graphite shaft Infinite Bean putter
revkev
Does this sound familiar? Great answers thus far and you are struggling with what has become a big question over the past decade. It is as someone else stated, player dependent. In my case I looked at my tracking data and found my hole - 56 degree wedge - and also that I was great with my 52 around the green - so out went the 56 and in went the 3 wood - except that I stink with the 3 wood so back in went the 56 with the understanding that it would only be there for me to hang my mask on it. Whatever you decide to do be sure to check your data to see that you are getting the benefits you were hoping for by making that choice. Good question, good luck. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Well, ordered the PXG 0311X 2I DI, will see if I can fit that into my bag. Thanks for the advice guys. I wish golf wasn't so expensive to try and figure out what works. Luckily today is the last day of the PXG sale so I got this for over half the normal price and cheaper than any other DI out there (minus TourEdge) Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. NRJyzr
Like Brother @Rchang posted, this is very player dependent. Some will depend on the highest loft wedge you prefer. Personally, I like irons from 22* to 50* in even 4* increments, with wedges at 55 and 60. I'll throw another iron at 18* or 19* to flesh out the set, maybe using a hybrid instead. Driver and 3w or 4w above the irons/wedges. If I prefer to go 58* as highest loft, I have sets that run 21 to 49, with a 53/58 wedge combo, and currently have a hybrid between the 3w and 21* iron. I am decidedly *not* a fan of having 3* gaps in iron sets. Which may be obvious. jayjay0808
Like others have said, this is completely player dependent. I myself this year eliminated the 3 iron, and instead put in either a 3 hybrid or weak 2 iron driving iron. I use the extra space to add a 52 wedge and moved to 4 wedges overall. Gapping is much easier and I have a ton of options from 130 and in. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Thanks. I went ahead and got the DI. Will see how that fits into my game. Maybe replaces a 3w, or 3H or is swappable depending on course. We will see. I too, play 4 wedges, although I cant really hit my 60* full. the 54* is very versatile to me at the moment.
