Best golf gift as addition to new clubs

Hello all,

I had been planning to buy my brother a set of new golf clubs for his birthday but parents bought this. Is a fancy putter worth buying as an addition or is there something else you’d rather have? I’m only a golf beginner so looking for some advice!

A putter is a fabulous gift... I have a Ping putter that my father gave me 30 years ago, and although I haven't used it for a long while, it still means a lot to me.

As a golf enthusiast, just give me a gift card or cash and let me pick out my own equipment

i agree with @jlukes

the thought is awesome, but make sure the money you spend is going towards something you know he wants or will use. 

gift cards are one size fits all. another option is to set up a session for him with a fitter in your area so he can get fit for the perfect putter.

I don’t know what you consider a “fancy” putter but clubs in general are not great gifts unless you know exactly what the individual wants. Golf clubs are pretty personal items especially putters. Additionally we don’t know your budget; putter prices range from about $100 into the thousands.

 

 

Since both you and your brother play golf I might suggest greens fees so you can play golf together.

Most of the golfers on this site will tell you they'd rather pick a club themselves, ideally through a fitting.  If someone gifted me a putter I'd be praying for a gift receipt along with it.

Gift card is always easy.  A dozen golf balls of his favorite brand/ball is kind too.  We all know how quickly we blow through golf balls

That's a great idea - a putter fitting and then if you want to add more $$ give him the rest in a gift card and he could use that for a putter.

Gift Card, like everyone else mentioned. Any time I tell my wife what I want for a gift xmas, birthday whatever she ends of getting me something weird. The gift card seems kinda unpersonal but its the best option. They can get whatever their heart desires, shoes, putter, anything.

i never understood how someone asks what you want, you tell them, and then they show up with something different entirely. 

my mother in law wrote the book on that move. i’ve started texting her a direct link to what i want

disclaimer: i’m grateful for any and every gift someone gets me. i just think if you’re gonna go off the cuff, skip the step where you ask what i want.

Laser, really handy on the course and easy to use. Plus it is something you can buy and give as a present as it does need to be fitted or be tried by the golfer.

A gift card for a green fee at a nice course is a good gift for him.  And you would certainly need to join him for that round too!!!   Its a Win Win gift!
