Hogan Showdown..PtxPro 4, vs UiHi 4... coming soon!

Sluggo42

Recommended Posts

Got a PtxPro 4 iron ordered finally, and will stage a showdown event against the 4UiHi .. I decided to go after this based on how easy the PtxPro 5 iron is to hit. The 4 UiHi is also very easy to hit, so Ill be testing for length off the deck, tee, and ball flights, etc.

If you have anything you'd like to hear about, post it up and I;ll include it in the testing. Not sure how long it will take to get here, so we could go a little dormant here until it does.

Cheers

I really hit the PTxPro 4-iron great. Straight, long, higher flight with the Recoil shafts. Very solid club.

Go to the Hogan PtxPro Combo for the results... Well, for the thoughts. The PtxPro 4 iron beat the UiHi 4 for the spot in my bag. Super close, but more of a personal preference for my game. I think a 10 and up might prefer the UiHi tho, as its a little more forgiving...

Yes, they and the Wilson are enticing enough that, if I opt to use TrueSpec for my bag fitting, which does not carry either, I may just get the specs and then try to do a follow-up test hitting with a shop that carries them (or order a 6i of one or the other, or both).  This forum is responsible... I just want you all to know that! 🙂

The wilsons will be longer and more forgiving, but less workable. You are right on the hcp line where you could go either way. And it seems that both clubs are pretty well liked by the testing group.

But, you are a ping fanboy, so who are you kidding eh? 🤣😉

what were some of your deciding factors? Workability? Ball flight? 'good enough' forgiveness?

Good question...

1) feel - the UiHi is a bit less feeling, of where on the face you’ve hit the ball. It’s got a much larger tennis racquet type of feel, vs. the crisp nip the PtxPro gives.
2) workability- yes. They will both go around the Winding road, but the PtxPro feels like a Porsche, and the UiHi feels like a Jeep.
3) head size - the UiHi is a much larger club, the PtxPro cuts thru the rough better.
4) “good enough” forgiveness... haha that’s an interesting way to put it. I suppose that a fair enough statement. Hit it well and you don’t need any forgiveness, but I can’t say I always hit the 4 iron perfectly, so yes, compared to the old blades, it’s “good enough” (I like that concept-thanks).
5) the Ptx is a little easier to flight, the UiHi is quick to soar, but it’s not like it’s ballooning. It’s not bad.
6) spin - I don’t have any trackman information so this is more a visual thing on the green by seeing that the Ptx “sticks” pretty well, and I don’t remember many times thinking the same thing after UiHi shots. But this isn’t a scientific data driven thought, the UiHi might spin well too.
7) results - I’ve put 3-4 180-190yd shots on the green in the last couple of days, and that’s never been a distance of confidence before.

the UiHi is a great stick by all means, but the PtxPro just fits MY game a little better. Your results my vary.

Reviving this thread as I have a PTxPro 5 iron that is fine but it gets beat out by my 5 hybrid for consistency. I am intrigued by the UiHi as a 5 iron bridge because the 5 hybrid can really only hit one shot (it does it well, it is a high draw but I can't get it to do anything else) and the Ptxpro 5 iron is a bit inconsistent for me. Seems like the UiHi 5 could be the ticket?
