Turn around time on orders at Ping

I got fit for a Ping G410 3 wood with the Tour 75 shaft in stiff on 8/28, 5 weeks later (today) I call the shop that fit me and they looked it up in Pings system, it still has a status of “processing” with no estimated ship date.

The shop said it has happened before when they run out of a shaft or a head. Anyone else experience this?

I ordered a 3 wood and hybrid immediately after a fitting on June 12. 3-4 week delivery.

I got the 3-wood after about 6 weeks. Had the wrong grip and the wrong head. Just got the replacement club a week ago.

I did not receive the hybrid and cancelled it a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the Tour 85 shaft wasn't available and when it became available, then the head wasn't available. When they said the expected production date was Oct 1 I cancelled since our season will be done by the time I'd get it.

Spoke with the Ping Rep on Monday at my local shop and he said getting a 3 wood for me would have been 10 week minimum as of Monday. Apparently, the heads or shafts aren’t coming in on time he told me

Every OEM has been experiencing supply chain delays. Some of them are due to product that wasn't created due to factory shutdowns, some of them are due to extremely long shipping times as every shipper has been overwhelmed for quite some time.

Ping was very up front about closing their facility early on and taking specific steps to slowly reopen in order to protect their employees health. As a result, Ping is one of many manufacturers across every industry that is having much longer than usual shipping times.

PING is getting back to "normal"  But still running about 4 weeks.  Your store manager can call them and find out exactly where it is in the processing time.  I've done it before and gotten answers for customers.

I ordered G710 irons a little more than 10 weeks ago. Original promise date was 3 weeks. I’m not upset yet, we’re dealing w unprecedented times.

Rick. Wow, even in these times that seems longer than i would have thought.   Have you had your dealer check directly with PING?

I'll bet we're now just seeing the lag time in the supply chain.  Many of the major OEM's keep a healthy inventory of the most popular components and they've consumed those. Being a supply chain specialist during the C19 event must be a major PITA... so much uncertainty that guesstimates are being made on top of guesstimates. Even if the physical product is at the ready, then comes the shipping part - much of which is international and China centric.

guesstimates on guesstimates is right. 

when you get a lead time, it’s a      real-time quote. by the time your product has stocked, been built, and is ready to ship, that lead time you were given is obsolete. 

i just pulled out of a pretty big deal in china for this exact reason. when we were negotiating contracts, the lead time was 4-5 months which i was good with. now it’s 7-8 months. i can’t make an investment when i believe that lead time will only keep sliding further out of my favor. 

china had a stranglehold on global manufacturing for a long time and they’ve lost it because of covid.

You’re not alone. My G400 driver fractured on the hosel at the end of August. The replacement ordered was delayed because of not having the shaft in stock  and has been delayed again now due to not having a 9* LH head.

It’s a little frustrating, but Ping has been transparent and are very gracious to warranty a G400, so I’m not upset. At the end of the day, it’s just a golf club and  I get to look forward to the anticipation of that long brown box showing up!

Yes, last ship date was supposed to be last week.

Ping should just release the G425 series as they have in Asia and Australia. I am waiting on a driver and really like the G410 and have heard the G425 has better MOI and graphics.

I got an update today on the Ping G710 irons.
The holdup is and has been the Recoil Shafts and should ship end of October.
I can live w that if everything is what I wanted.
My birthday is end of the month so would be fitting if they came in then.

I’m going on 7 weeks, the shop told me the last 3 wood ordered from Ping ahead of me took 8.5 weeks. I think it’s a shaft availability issue, the Tour 75 is made by UST Mamiya (like the recoils @Rickp ) - UST must’ve been impacted by all this as well.

It’s hard to blame Ping, but unfortunately these delays are eating into the little bit of the golf season that I still have up here.

I heard today that the G710 are still on for shipping last week October. The Recoil shafts are still promised then. We’ll see.
My guy is on them every 3 days for updates.

Speaking as someone who works for a (non-golf) manufacturer that ships worldwide, supply chain and shipping times got increasingly worse as things dragged on. I'm going to lean more towards "continued delays in getting materials pushed out delivery times" rather than "misrepresented delivery times".

I got my 3 wood! It took 11 weeks from when the order was placed.

My fitter said the delays were not due to component availability alone, it was that plus a huge COVID shutdown in Arizona (where the ping factory is). Apparently their factory was closed for 6.5 weeks, and they came back to an 8,000+ order backlog. Apparently Ping is still not caught up, and they are still not at 100% staffing due to the virus.

My fitter said they didn’t get any heads up from Ping, and had to figure it out once customers orders were in the week 5-6 range. As a result they stopped fitting people into Ping until January, because they are worried someone will end up waiting to get a G410 weeks after G425 is already released, and the customer will be mad at them as a result.

It’s hard to fault Ping entirely for what is an “act of God” type situation, but the fitter said bluntly that Ping put them in a bad spot with the way things went down. I’m just glad to have my club and a few decent days left in the season here!

I'm in Spain and was fitted for G425 irons , hybrid and driver , was told 3 weeks and maybe less for delivery , I'm a purchasing manager for a car manufacturer and told them there is no way this will happen . Brexit and a pandemic will definitely affect it.............. 4 weeks later , still not here.

They should loan you a G410 as consolation. I was told that PING is focusing all build priority on the G425 series and that orders for G410, etc., are now showing deliveries in early summer - that's kind of nuts when you think about it.

John Barba thinks we're just starting to see the front end of some long lead times on various make/model equipment.  He cited some large shipping containers, stuffed with golf product, lost in storms in December.  I wonder if this means a second round of product cycle release delays?

This doesn't bode well for my anticipation of the Glide 3.0 wedges I ordered 1/5...just curious how long my G425LST 3 wood will take to arrive.

If this gives anyone insight- I have a total of 67 individual G425 series clubs (not including irons, putters, or wedges) that all had a confirmed shipping date of 2/8. As of this morning I've received a total of 8 of those orders. 27 have shipped and are currently delayed due to weather (all of them are on the same truck stuck in Texas since 2/11). The other 32 have not left the "In Production" status. A set of G710 irons I ordered back in early November had a delivery date of 1/5 at the time of order now has a delivery date of 3/3. Ping is basically a blind guy in a whorehouse right now and the weather isn't doing them any favors.

I ordered clubs with Srixon, Ping and TaylorMade. Srixon lived up to their quote of 3-4 weeks. TaylorMade has another 1.5 weeks for their 4 week window. Ping? Who knows. If the wedges don't come in the next two weeks, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Ordered a 4 iron last Nov. still no shipment. Projected is now 2/22... we will see if that happens. Very bummed.

For what this is worth, supply chain challenges are not isolated to a single industry. We have to purchase spirits from our state controlled distributor and they are running at about 20-25% out of stocks on warehoused items. Big brands, Bacardi, Crown Royal, Smirnoff, ETC. Times between shipments are running in the 45-60 day time frame and due to this, those of us who are paying attention are buying inventory accordingly, which in turn adds to the overall shortages. I'm glad I have the space to mostly order accordingly to what our customers look for. Specialty items are a different animal, but the issues are widespread. I expect supply chain issues to not be fully corrected for another year, based on what I'm seeing. Patience, they tell me.....

I forgot to update this thread. After the heads were restocked, the shaft I ordered was out of stock, but Ping was transparent on lead times and took care of it a little bit earlier than expected back in Oct/early Nov.  By the sounds of it they are slammed and going as fast as they possibly can.  
 

For the sake of golf, I hope not. Golf has seen a resurgence this past year and I hope it keeps rolling.

It must be a real PITA trying to run a manufacturing facility and supply chain during C19.  Not that it's a walk in the park to start with but, add in workforce loss, new safety protocols, supply chain and shipping disruptions.... well, it's enough to make this guy glad to be retired .  On the positive side, at least they are still in business and getting new products launched and orders out...albeit slowly.
