What you say about an iron short, one of the reasons I like playing older clubs (besides the fact I can afford them ) is that I can judge distance a lot better. I know how far my old 5 iron or PW goes, but with the newer cavity back irons I've played, I'm all over the place distance-wise. Especially the shorter clubs. A new PW is like an old 8 iron. Big Baffy
Would anyone happen to know anything about these woods? I picked them up on eBay and I don't think they've ever been used. They came in their original box, with the grips still wrapped. They're maple Uniblock, not solid persimmon. I'm thinking late '80's or early '90's, but I couldn't find anything on the box to say either way. deejaid
I haven’t been able to play or even go to the range in awhile. We had terrible air quality for two weeks where you couldn’t even go outside due to wildfire smoke, then this week I’ve been working on building my new workshop. Since I wasn’t up to swinging the Hogan Combo set with the X100’s in them I decided to take my 1964 Powerbilt 5990c irons and 1968 Powerbilt 807 woods to the range. They have an easy swinging shaft called “Super Action” shafts that somehow play perfectly for me. I had a nice little range session with these 60’s classics without having to swing too hard after wielding a hammer framing the workshop for 3 days straight. I’m not a carpenter so I was exhausted at the end of each day. It was a nice Sunday afternoon with the Sunday classic fun set. Big Baffy
Now the big question: Do I play them or seal them in a vault somewhere? I paid about $150 US for them (incl. shipping), but if they're worth a lot I'd consider putting them away. I'd really like to play them :-).
