WITB - Sunday funday set

Recommended Posts

This is my Sunday funday bag. It's more about challenging myself and having fun. Played a quick 9 and shot 3 over from the whites. Nothing special but that forged SW is crazy spinney.....

Putter - MacGregor classic IRONMASTER

Irons - 2-SW Syncrolite (M95) Matching numbers except SW.

3 Wood - MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Muirfield

DRIVER - MacGregor Eye-O-Matic Tourney (945)

If anyone has info on the clubs like years they came out I'd really like to know. Thanks and enjoy the pics.20201001_173114_HDR.jpeg20201003_223347.jpeg20201003_223024~2.jpeg20201003_223036~2.jpeg20201003_223054~2.jpeg20201003_223131~2.jpeg20201003_223209~2.jpeg20201003_223105~2.jpeg20201003_223229~2.jpeg20201003_223303~2.jpeg20201003_223250~2.jpeg20201003_223351~2.jpeg

I've never seen muscle backs with that design before, with the weight placed in the middle the way these are.  How do you find hitting them? How do they feel, in other words?

That's pretty much what I found. The grind on the sandwedge really fits my game and the turf out here in south Texas.

What you say about an iron short, one of the reasons I like playing older clubs (besides the fact I can afford them 🙂 ) is that I can judge distance a lot better. I know how far my old 5 iron or PW goes, but with the newer cavity back irons I've played, I'm all over the place distance-wise. Especially the shorter clubs. A new PW is like an old 8 iron.

Would anyone happen to know anything about these woods?

I picked them up on eBay and I don't think they've ever been used. They came in their original box, with the grips still wrapped.

They're maple Uniblock, not solid persimmon.

I'm thinking late '80's or early '90's, but I couldn't find anything on the box to say either way.

Oh, this is awesome. Where did you find that catalog?

They're a lot older than I thought. They do have Nicklaus and Weiscopf on the box it came in, but I still thought they must be newer, based on the shape they are in.

Thanks again!

I haven’t been able to play or even go to the range in awhile. We had terrible air quality for two weeks where you couldn’t even go outside due to wildfire smoke, then this week I’ve been working on building my new workshop.

Since I wasn’t up to swinging the Hogan Combo set with the X100’s in them I decided to take my 1964 Powerbilt 5990c irons and 1968 Powerbilt 807 woods to the range. They have an easy swinging shaft called “Super Action” shafts that somehow play perfectly for me.

I had a nice little range session with these 60’s classics without having to swing too hard after wielding a hammer framing the workshop for 3 days straight. I’m not a carpenter so I was exhausted at the end of each day.

It was a nice Sunday afternoon with the Sunday classic fun set.

Sure thing.

The catalog is from a compilation book of Macgregor catalogs released 20 years ago. Search Jim Kaplan Macgregor on eBay or Amazon and you’ll probably find a copy. 1st edition was printed around 1980, 2nd edition around 2000.

Now the big question: Do I play them or seal them in a vault somewhere?

I paid about $150 US for them (incl. shipping), but if they're worth a lot I'd consider putting them away.

I'd really like to play them :-).

I just bought these as well. Any idea if they'd be from around the same time (late 70's/early 80's)? I'm thinking they're late '80's, based on the hosel and groove design, like my Wilson K-28s.

  • 3 weeks later...

So these are replacing my syncrolite's. #84/1000 cutis strange VIP MacGregor's.
Hopefully not to much hate on these. But for the price there is no way I can't game them. Next hopefully I can get my hands on a wood bro's driver for a decent price.20201024_200031.jpeg20201024_200059.jpeg20201024_195949.jpeg20201029_131503~2.jpeg
