I can't recall, but wasn't the Maxfli Tour ball (among others) found to be identical to prior gen Vice Pros? Just asking for memories sake. Was very impressed how the ball did in ball lab.

This article helped confirm what I've found in playing these balls.  I was picked to test them here on MGS and have been playing the Tour ever since.  It does everything I want a golf ball to do and seems to give me more distance off the tee than a lot of other balls I've tried.  Now that there has been more confirmation on the quality, there isn't a reason to shy away from this ball, especially since you can get these at $25/dozen very regularly.  The ONLY thing I would change is the yellow version has a yellow paint instead of having yellow urethane so it isn't as durable from a cosmetics perspective as other yellow balls like the Srixon and the Titleist ProV1 Yellow.

My bag is a revolving door!

I'd suspect that's what you'll find from most (if not all) balls of the made-to-order variety.

With Dick's close cooperation with TaylorMade I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually a prior generation TP ball.

I used #finditcutit to search Twitter and Instagram and while the ball construction does appear very similar, the cores were a different color and it was Monsta and Rife that were identical. Could still easily be the same ball with a different colored core, but not exactly what I was remembering from last year.

It's great to see yet another company producing good quality product.  As stated in my MGS testing, I found both of these balls to be of great value and performance.  For me, the Tour performed a little better in distance but otherwise the difference was negligible.  I played these against ProV1's and found them to be equal; except I would give Titleist the nod in durability (scuff resistance).  My testing did not show any off the tee or putting benefit with the "CG Controlled" feature; but my salt bath tests confirmed they are (at least my two dozen balls) true to their word... so, unlike so many other marketed features, at least you get what your paying for.

Presently, the Maxfli Tour, ProV1, and Snell MTB are my preference... though I'm not really sure why.

I also saw no difference using the CG stamping, but the ball performs really well for the price. I got glossy finish, and they seem to discolor very quickly. Anyone else playing these notice that?

No.  I wonder if it might be related to differences in herbicides, insecticides, etc.?

  • 3 weeks later...

This season I have played the Snell MTB-X, pro v1 and Maxfli Tour yellow and Tour X in white.

these are my 3 (really 4 I guess) balls.  I have to say the Maxfli is the only ball I feel like I’m not giving up something somewhere.  The MTB-X for  some reason was long off the tee for me but thought it was shorter with irons than normal.

anyway, the Maxfli blows me away with how good it is.  The deals are just icing.    This ball is long, spins and feels good.  It has to be a placebo as I don’t believe in it, (I don’t think) but I feel like when I line the CG line off the tee down the line I hit some of my best drives.

I do agree the yellow paint can scuff easier than others.  That’s the only knock I can think of.

I get a lot of grief from my wife about my golf towel because I only "use" one side of it. The truth of the matter is that it's one of those giant caddie towels and one side is for cleaning my clubs and ball and the other side is for my hands and face 😏
