WHAT AFFECT DOES INCORRECT LIE ANGLE POTENTIALLY HAVE?

If you have an incorrect lie angle in your irons, what affect (tendency to draw or fade) might that have? Does having too much of a flat lie angle have a specific affect? Does having too much of an upright lie angle have a specific affect? Let me know what your experience and wisdom believes, thanks!

Too Flat equals too much of a fade, too upright equals too much of a draw.

Some will play -1 or so flat to offset their tendency to go right, and vice versa.

It will affect your fade(slice) or your draw, depending on how agressive the lie angle is.

I just recently figured out that my irons were upright when they weren’t supposed to be. I was hitting most shots out of the heel. I got them bent to standard and it has been much better since. Another good thing to note is that if you hit off of mats a lot then your clubs might bend over time so it’s good to check the lie angle every month or so.

I play upright irons with extra long shafts. I’ve found there is a psychological effect from playing clubs that are flatter or shorter than my preference. I look down and think I can’t hit them, which leads to bad swings. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. And if the lies are too far off, then you really can’t make good contact.

That txg video is great. If you are a teaching pro, you really need to try to determine if the lies and lengths of your student’s clubs are undermining his ability to strike the ball well.

Every month? I have an indoor GC2 simulator and have been hitting off of it for about 3 years now several times a week with the same clubs I play with. Sounds like I better get them checked.

It depends on the irons too and how steep you are. I generally am a little steep and play forged irons. I like to check mine every month because I’m a little bit ocd about making sure that my club specs are correct but that’s just me. I would just recommend checking them every month if you have access to do so.

Beyond helping with the left/right miss, upright appear more closed at address to the eye and flat appear open.
