Woooo, went to a Cleveland event today to demo these and get spin #’s. While these weren’t the raw finishes the spin numbers increased from the older wedges. Also the drop on the ball was phenomenal. Can’t wait to test them for real!

good to hear. What ball did you hit with since we know some balls are more spinny than others? With k-sigs I can still get back up with my old pings but with TP5s I get one or two hops. Curious as well with the zipcores and the spinner shaft.

They were brander with the mizuno logo, just the provided practice balls.

speaking of spinner shaft, it feels good. Can tell the tip is a bit softer. The wedge feels solid and a bit heavier (which I like)

Looks like my fellow testers and I are going to be receiving our wedges this upcoming week! A few of us already got FedEx notifications that they were sent so with that said...

Anyone got any questions so far? I know with this test coming off the heels of the earlier Zipcore test, most folks might have already had their questions answered and the Zipcore family of wedges. However, maybe you have some specific questions about the different offerings from the "Tour Rack" or anything else you have questions about?

Well being so close to Cleveland HQ certainly helped this get here so quickly (Huntington Beach, not actually Cleveland). Nice to come home to after a not so great round.

Beautiful wedges, almost wish they wouldn’t rust, but maybe I’ll love that look as well. Getting them right now tomorrow morning, usually pretty wet out there early, so that’ll start the process.

All my wedges tend to fly high on full swings, so I can’t speak to a flatter ball flight, but my 56* is getting the same distance as my old wedge which was a degree stronger and seems to be stopping on a dime.

Didn’t strike the 54 that well but the 58 was high and soft. Distance maybe 5 yards short of my current 54. Will need to test on the course to really gauge. I will say on pitches these seem really easy to flight high or low. Again the real tests will come on the course.

Threw the Zipcores in the bag today for the weekly after-work 9. I was debating holding off until I got my shafts installed, but who am I kidding to think I could just leave the new shiny clubs at home?

As you might've seen in my pictures on the previous page, I went with the following setup:

  • 54* / Full Bounce / S-shaped grind / Hand Polished Finish
  • 58* / Low Bounce / Relief Edge grind / Hand Polished Finish

My reasoning for the 54 is that I wanted an absolute weapon out of the bunkers. I like to open my SW face up because I find it easier than "chunk-and-run" -- I try to keep my hands low throughout the shot and keep the face pointing to the sky -- and clear my mind of every other thought. So with the amount of bounce and the grind, I'm hoping that the club will just get under the ball without going too deep and help me play the shot that I'm comfortable playing.

For the 58, I wanted the most versatile wedge I could get, and per their site, a low-bounce Relief Edge grind is just that. The reason is because I don't use my lob wedge often. When I do, it's because I'm about to do something sketchy. A full shot with a 58 is very, very rare for me -- I'm much more comfortable knocking down a 54.

I don't really notice that these fly any higher or lower than my RTX4's do, but it's a very small sample size as the longest shot I hit with either of them was from 70y. Took out the 54* and gave it a 3/4 swing and left it 12' below the hole. The ground interaction with the Zipcore Full sole, definitely feels different from my RTX4 Mid. I don't really know how to describe it with words, but it just feels like there's more sole there than normal, like those old school Alien wedges. Unfortunately, aside from that shot I didn't really have anything more than a couple standard, straight-forward chip shots from around the green.

Golf in the state just moved to "reopening level 2.5" or whatever they're calling it -- so the practice areas are open again. Excited to take the shag tube to the course and practice some touch shots, and some Hawaiian sunset glamour shots (of the clubs, not me).

Couple rounds in now. I really, really wanted to love them, but TBH I'm just not really vibing with them yet. That's more on me than them almost certainly and I'm not giving up. Haven't really noticed any patina building up yet, but been pretty dry out on the course and I've been brushing and toweling after most of my shots.

So, I have both the RTX4 and the new Zipcore Raw.

IMHO, the zipcores are slightly shorter, but far more accurate on all types of shots.  Better control means that I can live with clubs going 3 yards shorter...

The sound is meh, but the end result is shots closer to the hole and lower scores..

I haven't made it to the course yet, and I am still waiting on my 60*, but my initial tests from my home chipping area is that the ball explodes off the face of these compared to my Wilson Staff FG Tour 56*

Tiger is the GOAT, change my mind.

Does that mean that it feels firmer, or sounds louder to you? Just wondering because compared to the RTX4s I had, these feel and sound completely dead to me, and I love it.

By dead do you mean muted?  Like hitting marshmallows?

Complete absence of any type of clicky sound. Admittedly I haven't looked into the construction of the heads yet, but they feel softer than the RTX4

Round one in the books with a mixed results bag on these wedges. Absolutely love the 58* 60 yards and in. It’s my go to. Nearly chipped one in from 15 yards (picture).  Both wedges on partial shots land soft. You can really feel the wedges it seems. Sound is muted yet crisp. The 54* likely needs a lie adjustment done for me. I am struggling to square in and loosing shots right or chunking it, likely my fault for putting on bad swings. It doesn’t help that I am so biased to the 58* IN this sense as well.  This is all odd because my bread and butter with my old wedges was my 54*. I really need to work on it some more and hope I don’t need to also do a shaft change. I will say I haven’t gotten any to back up yet playing the TP5s. I assume if I use Ksigs I’d get some further checkup.

Does that mean that it feels firmer, or sounds louder to you? Just wondering because compared to the RTX4s I had, these feel and sound completely dead to me, and I love it.

Complete absence of any type of clicky sound. Admittedly I haven't looked into the construction of the heads yet, but they feel softer than the RTX4

So I was really speaking to the ball flight. Seems to just rocket off the face. I didnt realize, until reading your post, just how silent the contact is. You're absolutely right.

Tiger is the GOAT, change my mind.

Got my 56*, sole grind: relief edge, leading edge rounded. The wedge feels very balanced and the little bit of chipping I’ve done around the house, it great at picking the ball without the blading. Hoping to get out soon!

Got some TrackMan data today comparing these to my old Ping Tour S. From a spin perspective, the 58* spin more than my old 60* by 2000 rpm. However, the 54* zipcore was 600 rpm less than my old 54*. Both these wedges were lower in spin than I expected for wedges (58* 6400 rpm, 54* 5200 rpm) which likely comes down to strike quality and using range balls. In terms of carry, the zipcore was 5 yards longer for the 54 and 8 yards with the 58 (not apples to apples comparing 58 and a 60).

Got to test my 54* in the bunker for the first time today and the results were...bad. I missed carrying the greenside bunker by about a yard from 103y out, and into the wind, on the 3rd hole today. Luckily the sand, or lack thereof, let my ball roll back down the face of the bunker.

The bad news was that I needed the ball to get up, quick, because there was about 4' of the face/lip of the bunker that I needed to carry. Opened the face wide open hoping the S-grind and wide sole would help me glide under the ball, but poor technique trumped wedge design and I didn't quite get "under" it to flop it out. Wasn't bladed by any means because I cleared the face of the bunker easily, but it wasn't the shot that I was trying to play. Again, poor technique and not the wedges fault at all.

My club builder called me today mid-round to let me know that my Modus 115 Wedge shafts have finally arrived! Dropping them off to the mechanic tomorrow to get the "motors" swapped out, and then I'll really be able to compare these apples:apples with my RTX4's. Glamour pics to come as well!

I’m having the Modus 125 wedge out into my MIM wedges once they come in. It’s tough to beat the feel from those Modus shafts.

You may have mentioned it earlier and I missed it, but did you choose that grind specifically? Is it similar or different from what you’ve sued and the rest of your wedges?
