Josh Ross
Well, my last 9 holes will be hard to beat with the putter. I one-putted the first 7 holes, two-putted the 8th because I misjudged the speed, and then chipped in on the 9th hole for a perfect 9 putts in 9 holes. The highlight of the round was two 30 foot birdies. Still shot poorly because of it being one of my first rounds back but man, I still stand behind my claim that this thing just feels like cheating. edingc, yungkory, ryan.mzzz and 3 others 5 1 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: LINK.1 34" Ball: Tour (Thanks MGS for allowing me to test these!) CoolWhipGolfer
General question for the group. Has anyone else noticed that when you strike this club directly in the center, you come up short on putts? I noticed it this winter on my carpet and thought that I was just imagining things. But the more I have practiced with it, the more it holds true. With that being said, this still is the best putter I have ever used. On a recent round, I had 24 putts on my way to an 83. Yes this putter saved the round. Any thoughts or opinions are welcomed. Thanks I personally haven't noticed this, but to be honest I haven't really struck it anywhere else other than a couple times here and there so I'm not the best person to ask. When I was doing my initial testing I hit some on the heel and toe just to see what happened but they didn't seem to go any further than well struck putts. edingc and GolfSpy_SHARK 2 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: LINK.1 34" Ball: Tour (Thanks MGS for allowing me to test these!) One thing I did note in my review is that the sound changes significantly when the ball is struck more heel or toe side. My perception is that center strikes are "softer" than heel or toe. Not sure if that's what you may be picking up on? I personally do not feel like my center strikes are coming up short. GolfSpy BOS
There isn't a face tech story like EVNROLL with these right? I know the an EVNROLL putter the center is purposely softer/less hot than the heel/toe so that a ball should roll out to the same length if its hit anywhere along the milled face. They took me a few rounds to get used to, but since then it's really been working. I Don't think there is that kind of tech here.. Just EVNROLL and PING I think (and PING doesn't use it on all models). If I had to guess it would be the sound difference that Cody noted is what you're picking up on. edingc
Funny how easily you can fall back into old habits. On Saturday the L.A.B. went ice cold on the back nine. I wasn't missing my lines by much, but my speed control (which has been such a big improvement with the L.A.B.) was miserable. I had four three-putts and was just way short or way long with everything. I noticed that I had started to really hunch over in my setup. Part of the reason I went with the 36" L.A.B. was so that wouldn't happen, but I started to really bend my elbows and grip down to facilitate the hunch. Today, I focused on standing more upright at setup and it made a huge different. My distance control was fantastic as I did not three-putt during my round today, despite hitting 15/18 greens and having some first putts that approached 50 feet in length. M. Golfjopa
Good thread. Yesterday I spent an hour at PGA Superstore with one of these in my hand. I only picked it up to play with it because it looked so crazy. I hadn't heard anything about it before, but I've spent an hour or two (or three, sorry boss) reading about them. My normal putting, I miss almost everything left so I know I constantly pull it, but with this thing I was hitting the hole pretty consistently and it felt like the straightest I've been able to hit putts in forever. Yeah, I know, it was on carpet, but really I walked out of there thinking "how can I scare up the $400 to get me one of those?". Intriguing piece of equipment. edingc
Anything inside 10 feet seems automatic with the L.A.B., and I usually walk away disappointed that I didn't make the putt if it doesn't go down. I still have my days where speed control is less than stellar, but I've had some really, really good rounds, too. The last two rounds at my home course I had 29 putts each time. This morning's round had eight one-putts and four birdies. Just a really good day all around on the green. I love the alignment markings I went with. I match the line on my golf ball with the center line on the alignment guide and then can focus solely on speed. It's definitely helped me become a better putter. CoolWhipGolfer
Man oh man I wish the rest of my game would catch up to this putter. My last two 9 hole outings in my golf league were awesome on the greens. Last week I had 11 puts and this week I had 14. I've had more birdies from the fringe this year already than the last two years combined. Does L.A.B. make irons? Yeah I'm joking, but if they did I would have to give them a try. My routine to overcome this involves using a line on the ball and then aiming the line at my target while behind the ball. I then take a few steps back to make sure the line is correct. Then address the ball matching the line on the ball with the line on the L.A.B. and take my stroke. I do miss a lot of putts just left or right, but in my case I think it's my initial aim/speed selection. edingc
I wanted to follow up on my experience with the L.A.B. now that I have a full season using it. Rudimentary stats pulled from The Grint show an improvement in putting from last year to this year. Putts Per Hole (2020 - TaylorMade Spider X) Putts Per Hole (2021 - L.A.B. DF 2.1) I showed a reduction of .09 putts per hole, or 1.62 putts per 18 holes. Shown across all 18 hole rounds from last and this season: Putts Per Round (2020 - TaylorMade Spider X) Putts Per Round (2021 - L.A.B. DF 2.1) I know putts per round is a finicky statistic. But I like seeing more rounds without three putts (the purple in the charts above). For reference, in 2021 I hit 43.8 percent of greens during my 18 holes rounds. In 2020, I hit 40.8 percent. So to see a reduction in total putts while hitting slightly more greens in regulation is a big positive for me. Statistics aside, the L.A.B. will not be leaving my bag anytime soon. I'm sure some of this success can be attributed to practicing more during the off season on my EXPUTT simulator, but overall I feel very confident with the L.A.B. in my hands. The putter has held up well. There is a small wear mark on the lower part of the Stability Shaft from bag chatter, but otherwise the club is in pristine shape (I always put the head cover back on). The head cover is in rough shape, however, as the piping is all peeling off and the magnet on one side has worked itself loose inside. My experience is that most putter head covers don't last long as they get lots of use. I can always order a new one or keep rocking this "well used" specimen. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
56 minutes ago, edingc said: I wanted to follow up on my experience with the L.A.B. now that I have a full season using it. Interesting analysis. While not much of a difference, having confidence makes a world of difference. edingc 1 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. edingc
Doesn't seem like a lot, but over the last 50 rounds my putting continues to improve: Additionally, I think that putting contributed a lot to the drop in my scoring average and overall handicap, which each fell pretty close to the same amount of strokes as my putts per round: 2021 2020 (remove the 58 - not sure what that is, and it'd be higher.) At my home course, improvements in putting are probably the most easily noticeable change. While my driving has improved significantly as well in the strokes gained metric, it is mostly due to distance and not accuracy. Once I'm in the trees, I'm hitting recovery shots for bogey and need to putt well to do so. I suspect that my handicap might have dropped more had I played away from my home course more often this year. Was the L.A.B. worth the $700? Yes, I think so. I probably could have gone with the stock shaft and saved a couple hundred dollars and been fine, however. cnosil and Vegan_Golfer_PNW 1 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Interesting as I would consider an upgraded shaft but no idea how that could improve on anything considering what the LAB already does. edingc 1 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. cnosil
I had been thinking about a new putter for no other reason than just because and doing Most Wanted Putter testing puts me in that mood. Been reading a lot about the LAB putters and was able to roll all three models as part of testing and then back to back after testing completed. For someone that likes Blade style the Blad model is a good option and reminds me of a Seemore FGP. The MEZZ is a little bigger and isn’t that odd looking and I’d liken it to a fang/#7 style type putter. The Directed Force model is obviously very large and odd looking. From a performance perspective, the Blad model seemed less forgiving and not really embracing if the whole LAB concept. Consistency was good but not mind blowing. The MEZZ rolls the ball really well but had too much of a clicky audible sound; Nothing I couldn’t get past but it wasn’t my preference. The Directed Force model just seems to flow through the stroke really well and with the right setup and ball position it does seem to be automatic. After trying them all I went with the Directed Force 2.1 and am looking forward to putting it in play. Hopefully that I get the same type of performance that edingc has been getting. yungkory, ejgaudette, Josh Ross and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: TM-180 Testing: Backups: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

I used to switch putters every couple rounds and had a really nice putter collection. Ever since switching to LAB, I have sold off the putter collection and have watched my scores drop. I'm a pretty good putter and could putt with almost anything, but I've said since the moment I put the Directed Force 2.1 in my hands that it felt like cheating. I haven't missed my line once with the thing and all I've got to do is make the right read because I know with full confidence I'm putting the ball on my intended line every time. edingc and cnosil 2 Quote In my Lux XV Cart Bag: Driver: RADSPEED XB PTC 10.5° Fujikura Speeder Evolution 661 VII Stiff Utility: Apex UW 17° and 19° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 70 6.0 4 Hybrid: KING LTDx 21° KBS PGI 85 Stiff Irons: ZX5/ZX7 Project X LZ 6.0 Wedges: 2.0 49°, 53°, 57° Project X LZ 6.0 Putter: LINK.1 34" Ball: Tour (Thanks MGS for allowing me to test these!) Agreed. Any time I'm not on line it's because of my aim and not my stroke. I haven't practiced putting a lot this winter because frankly the LAB is so simple I just haven't needed to! @cnosil What specs did you order?
