For me I prefer playing with the older balls than the 19/20. Bought a box at the beginning of the year and still have 6 in my bag.

I still have two of the original ones with my high school logo on them. The coach made them up and paid for them and gave each of the 6 starters one to play in matches. What a guy he was.

Few things to add:

*ProV1 did not exist in 1999, player testing began in the summer of 2000 and it was first put into play in October 2000. Retail release was December 2000.

*First two stamps are the same ball. Titleist did not plan to go to retail with that plain text stamp but the official stamp conformance submission was not complete when they decided to move the retail release from March 2001 to December 2000.

*Limited 2002 release ProV1 Star was a lower spinning alternative that ended up being the predecessor to the 2003 ProV1x. There was also an R&D prototype ProV1 Diamond that was a lower compression, higher spinning alternative that was never released to retail.

  • 2 weeks later...

I won't play anything older than the '17-'18 versions. Because I'm such a ball hoarder, I have 13 doz. of the '19 -'20 Pro V1x and 6 doz. of the '19 -'20 Pro V1, that I won't need to worry for awhile.

I feel there are too many improvements every two - 4 years, that the older models just aren't worth playing. Kinda like drivers - but, about every 3 - 4 years there.

HI Alf.S,

I appreciate this page you provided. I actually used it to help a guy determine which version of Pro V1x was in his two sleeves of Titleist testers he picked up somewhere, and was trying to sell on ebay. Now he can tell bidders what they actually are.
